This is the reason we need a Forge+ Farcry Map Editor. Make map in Forge, pretty things up with terrain and Foliage with FC Editor. Woo!
They could've even just added Forge pieces that are flat surfaces with dirt/grass/snow/rock textures. Far Cry 3 has like 50 textures for grass, the least Certain Affinity could do is add 1 for Forge.

Every time I load up the Nature section and I get some dumb rocks, I feel sad. This should have loads of stuff in to help make maps more varied. Building the maps is ok but trying to decorate them to make them stand out is way harder. Only so much you can do with Seastacks.

I can try this but if it even blinks out for a second, the way Halo uses Havok you'd probably just end up pushed through other side if it respawned while the player was halfway through.

I'll also have to test if it's invincible to certain weapon types in a bit - I was playing a game of Dominion and attempting to snipe the door open for a teammate, but it didn't take it down at all. Wondering if it's actually set up to not be openable with a sniper rifle or if it was just a freak occurence.

That would have been really, really nice. I would love if there was a way to have "clean" forge pieces or pieces with some grass/dirt/etc on them to give a more weathered and integrated look.

I just loaded an Impact base map and noticed that all the Player Trait Zones default values are set to 'Unchanged'.

I will do some testing later today to confirm but if true, bravo 343i, bravo.

You can break it with a Sniper rifle. I can't remember how many rounds, but it's quite a few, something like 6.
I think it's 2 binary rifle shots. Maybe 3 (I tested it in a flood game-type and I can't remember if the sniper had a damage boost)

Nope.

Player Trait Zones are still broken. Even though they start with default values set to 'Unchanged', they revert back to default values after saving.

I ran a full suite of tests to confirm. Damage (and other) settings cannot be set to 'Unchanged' in a Player Trait Zone to let the map inherit the game variant settings. Default damage settings are forever baked into to the map no matter what settings the variant uses. This means that a Slayer map which uses these zones cannot be used for SWAT or other variants which modify damage settings. Your variant can have Bottomless Clip and 200% Damage but players will have Normal Clip and 100% Damage while in the Player Trait Zone.

just stopping into this thread to remind everyone that Forge is never, ever going to receive adequate features or development
 
It's pretty crazy to think what that Foundation remake would have looked like in Reach or even 3. One of the best examples of dynamic lighting I've seen so far.

Oh, and in my quest to make a game where the mantis can ONLY use the Stomp to do damage, I've found that shield doors are the best solution. They make it slide a bit but it can't shoot the players underneath (because damage HAS to be on, as the stomp counts as a "weapon" rather than a splatter). I've yet to try with Dominion shield doors with the team set to Attacker (or whatever the Mantis pilot's team is) but I'd be worried that the Mantis could still break the shields. It'd help if we had the option for more than 6-8 shield doors, too.

So has the file share service been implemented yet? I'm still waiting patiently...

Has anyone noticed that the Bunker Boxes (pieces used to make the Sanctuary bases) have no glass in the windows? Meaning that you have to patch them up when you make the Sanctuary bases so people aren't hiding inside of the base itself. That's kinda odd.

i finished my first halo 4 map today, resonance, and would like to get it in. will post screens and a brief description later. actually, is bungie.net, er waypoint, posting screenshots yet - or is off-screen my only option?

You can mimic what's being done in other maps (investigate via Forge) or mimic old Halo by placing Initial Ordnance with appropriate respawn timers. There's not much else to say.

Difference being they will clutter up the HUD with arrows pointing to their location.

just placed some initial ornance, one item being the scattershot and holy hell did the framerate take a massive dump each time i shot that! wtf is this? i played (2 player) split screen early wth no drops, is the scattershot just a weapon to avoid in forge maps for performance? odd. what else should be avoided? do the lights have a big impact like they did in reach?

Hey guys, can anyone help me out with the map I'm making?
Right now the things that need to be placed are: spawns, weapons and objectives.
I'd love some help understanding and balancing this stuff.
I'll post some pics soon.
 
Bridges flipped upside down don't allow for a Flag Stand to be placed flush on top of them.

Once we get Precision Editing, this won't be a problem, but until then, don't make the same mistake I did.

On that note, does anyone have a good solution for this mistake? I'm out of blocks, so this is trickier than I'd like it to be. I'm also out of "lighting" which makes it even worse, but I suppose I could always delete some random rocks if it's totally necessary.

In the mean time, my Flag Stands are recessed into the geometry. Eh.

Edit: Dawned on me that I could use Fixed physics. Problem solved! Flag Stands still are clumsy enough that it feels like I'm tripping over them. Might just recess them anyway and mark them with a Capture Plate instead. Is that what the cool kids do?

Double edit: Don't bother nesting them; they disappear if they're underground.

I'm trying to download computrons foundation remake but it won't let me. It just stays stuck at 0% downloaded. Sucks.


Also, where can I find mlg game types and maps?

I think this is most likely a glitch as I can successfully play Capture the Flag, but the flags themselves are gray. To be clear, the flag stands are their correct color, be it having them assigned by "Team Color" (through Attacker and Defender) or assigning them directly ("Blue" and "Red" respectively.

If I capture a flag, it resets to the flag stand as its correct color. Glitchy.

Thanks for the write-up Computron! That was very interesting. Your remake of Foundry looks beautiful, and now I'm even gladder I went with Ravine for my own—and first—Forge creation.
 

I've also kept in mind shadow and lighting for Think Again. My open roofing is setup to allow for light in the major locations of the map to encourage movement and focus on those main areas. The shadow intensity control is very interesting. That is good information to know and you've used it very well on your remake. :) I felt that the environment had a decent amount of indirect lighting... good to know that that is the case.


I should be there for ForgeGAF customs. :) Haven't touched Halo in a full week and I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I'll have v0.2 of Think Again's beta on my fileshare prior to the lobby.

I am up for a few games if anyone is on. Just about done the tidying up with my Jonestown Hyper Edition but I am pretty rubbish with spawns and not sure how the Ordinance will work out.
