Metroid Prime 4: Beyond showcase at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will allegedly “blow everything else in the direct out of the water”

MP1 is one of my favorite games of all time and even I thought that last MP4 trailer was underwhelming as fuck. Kind of lost interest in it for now after that. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

It's never going to live up to the original 2. It's been too long and everyone has far too high expectations for it. I remain cautiously optimistic though.

With the immense creative talent Retro currently has, Metroid Prime 4 will be a major killer app for the Switch 2.

It's almost scary how good the Switch 2 line-up *could* be: Prime 4, Mario Kart 8, 3D Mario, Zelda: BOTW and TOTK Remastered just naming
a few and then the third party games hitting...possibly Red Dead 2, GTA V Enhanced Edition, GTA 6 announcement, Borderlands 4.....

Some of those are 1 game per gen IP's, so they better be fucking good.

Not only it will look awesome on the Switch 2 it will be the best Metroid Prime so far.

'[Game] Remastered was not released 11 years ago', strong argument over there.
And the funny part is that it was still 9 years after Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Amazing game, but I've never seen people excuse any other studio for not having anything to show after so much time.
Next time choose better words ? You said they didn't release a game in 11 years, they released once last year.

This remaster tells us everything we have to know about their vision for their games, and how we have no reason to worry. Unlike, for example, Demon's Souls Remastered, which basically butchered the original.

Otherwise Retro Studios work on what they are assigned to. If it is not about releasing brand new games, and assisting on other Nintendo games, it doesn't mean they aren't doing anything.

Not surprising considering how talented Retro is. I love the idea of this being a launch title too. The Metroid franchise deserves better sales and with the Switch 2 launch looking to be the biggest ever, Prime 4 should rack up some impressive numbers. 😎

Not sure that’s a good idea your going to have a showcase for the switch 2 and its games than showcase a game that make all them look bad? That isnt what I would want to show to sell my system.

In fact I’d have 2 showcases one that focuses on the games coming this year for switch and than 2 days later showcase switch 2 titles in all their glory.

I prefer ugly graphics over a walking cinematic simulator.

Meanwhile, PS3 graphics for open-world games

I like how you cherry picked some games, you know GTA5 released on PS3, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Infamous

But okay whatever makes you feel better lol

If Nintendo games dropped on the PlayStation Store or Steam, most of them would get scrolled past for looking like shovel ware.

I don't think there has been data on this in the last couple of years, but last I saw the vast majority of Switch owners own at least one other console and/or PC, so a huge chunk of the tens of millions of people who bought Mario Kart or Pokemon or Animal Crossing also own a PS5 and probably even more regularly use Steam. So I have to imagine those people would not just "scroll past" those titles if they were on a different platform.

It's really only "enthusiast" sites like Gaf where people live in a vacuum of console warring and platform loyalty. Most people just play the games that appeal to them wherever they can find them.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Nintendo fanbase have such low standards, you can show a PS3 era game for them and will be blown away to stratosphere.

A benefit of being a decade behind technologically.
Facts.

Show them a PS3 looking ass game with good art style and they'll think it looks next gen. Its not hard to blow everything out of the water, when this PS3 era title is your highest level of competition

I can believer he has seen or had access to info regarding MP4 but Im pretty sure he doesnt know everything else on the presentation and how It looks. I can get his excitement towards the Game as a Metroid and Retro fan but its hard to believe he could naked such a statement at this time

It's so exhausting to see every fucking Switch thread here turned into a graphics shit place. Would be really nice talking about what kind of innovation the game can have. I dunno why some people are so insecure about their console producing better graphics, and yes I understand they've been lied to and that console never really performed at the level they were sold on and they had to rebuy into that eco-system with a new very expensive device so they can feel good about themselves even though there are almost no first party games coming and they all basically look like high-res versions of the previous gen with no real innovation other than upscaling tech.

I for one am excited for MP4 and hope to see gameplay innovation.

RETRO moved on to make Donkey Kong Country and Next Level Games got to give the Prime series a go with Metroid Prime Federation Force in 2015, which was a huge flop. I guess Nintendo didn’t know what to do with it after that, or who to give it to.

And now we’ve gone full circle back to RETRO.

Their first Switch event announced 6 new first party games. How is that "not much to show"?
I remember that, take out the ports and there wasn't much new at all other than Xenoblade 2 and Mario Oddessy from Nintendo and I would even look to class Splatoon 2 as a proper sequel.

=

This is beyond asinine. 3rd parties abandoned Nintendo because of the abysmal Wii U catastrophe. Not paying attention to the follow-up to a 150+ million system seller with over 1 billion pieces of software sold is what you're postulating 3rd parties are going to ignore. I wouldn't trust you with one plug nickel.
LOL in come the fanboys with sales.

The Switch didn't have a great line up of In-House games in early years when you take out the Wii U ports.
Yeah. Switch 2 launch isn't going to have much to show.
Well other than a new Mario Kart 9 and Prime 4 I doubt we'll have much from Nintendo this year that isn't ports.
I mean Nintendo only had 11 years to make a sequel to Mario Kart 8 and 18 odd years for Prime 4

But we'll see. I keep on hearing the same from Nintendo kids. How Nintendo will be different on the next-gen with more In-House games and more brand new IP and it always turns out to be the same Nintendo

I dont think you remember very well. This is the list of Nintendo first party games at the Switch conference in Jan 2017:
  • BOTW
  • 1 2 Switch
  • Xenoblade 2
  • Arms
  • Mario Odyssey
  • Splatoon 2
  • Snipperclips
  • Fire Emblem Warriors
All of them were released in the Switch's first 10 months.

This is the list of first party ports at the event:
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
So saying "take out the ports" doesn't make sense, because 1 is not plural.

If you think the Switch 2 will be like Switch 1, then you should expect several new first party games to be announced and released in the first year.

I don't even necessarily think we will see Zelda ports on Switch 2. Maybe TOTK but I doubt BOTW considering how old the game is. Metroid Prime 4 will also not be a showcase game for the system because Metroid isn't very popular. Nintendo has said they know the transition will be difficult but the surest way to make it MORE difficult is to just release a bunch of ports. As we saw with Sony releasing a ton of remasters and cross gen PS4 games. You need to make new games and they will show lots of new games.

Come on man, not only is basically everything in your post factually wrong as Woopah pointed out, but using the phrase "Nintendo kids" makes you sound like you never evolved beyond console war arguments on the middle school playground.

The likes Of Fire Warriors and Snipperclips weren't In-House and lets fact it 1/2 Switch was little more than a demo game and should have been a pack in title.

I'll expect Nintendo to maybe have 1 In-House game 2 at push in the 1st year.

Hardly, because Nintendo fans have to lump in 1st party games and then also the likes of Mario Kart or Zelda BOTW which were Wii U titles that Nintendo looked to charge full price for a basic port
And C'mon its a bit of fun calling Nintendo fans kids, no different from calling Xbox fans Xbots

Even if Mario Kart and Metroid Prime 4 are somehow the only 1st party games published this year, which will almost certainly not be the case, that would still be more than "1 In-House game."

Breath of the Wild launched on the same day on both the Wii U and Switch. Why shouldn't Nintendo have charged full price for it?

And C'mon its a bit of fun calling Nintendo fans kids, no different from calling Xbox fans Xbots

I think it's childish to use "Xbots" (or "Sony Ponies") too. I think all three console manufacturers deserve plenty of criticism, and I don't deny that I personally prefer Nintendo to their competitors, but treating it like partisan politics is silly.

They are first party games published by Nintendo. What ratio of the employees are "in-house" hasn't mattered for the last 40 years so why would it matter now?

Mario Kart is a port. BOTW was a cross gen game. Those are not the same thing.

The trailer was awful but, at the same time, I didn't feel that some of the early BOTW trailers were that great either, and the final game is one of my top 5 of all time. So... we'll see.
