Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Thanks guys. Sorry to derail but I'm seeing its nothing like PS4 by recording the last 15 minutes or maybe I just botched it. Played my first game and did surprisingly well.

I lost a game 50 to 49 and lost 82 points in the process causing me to drop to gold one from gold 2. Wtf

You didn't actually lose that many points. They have a bug where the numbers are off when going between ranks. I went from gold 1 to gold 2 and it said I gained 80 something points but only really gained 10 or 15.

Wrong. I'll try to make it simple as possible.

If you are an Onyx Tier 3 for example and your friend is a Gold whatever and you are facing a team with all Onyx players and win, you will get less points than your Gold friend.

It depends on what rank you are and who you are playing against.
And I take it that it works the same for losing as well, similar rank to opposing team lose more. Opposing team is higher, lose less?

EDIT: Also, my mic is screwing up and I need a new one. Does anyone know a good replacement? Other than a new MS mic.

I hardly use scope anymore since it actually hurts me more than it helps.

ADS is by far the worst addition to Halo 5 the slow movement when scoped is just terrible.

Dang this game is so easy. 7/7 so far with an 11 KDA. Every game is like 50-10.

So yeah, total amateur hour going on in Halo 5. I don't understand because the game feels like Halo through and through even with all the changes. I was using clamber and thrusterpack instinctively after like half a game. I haven't even tried to use the slide, charge, or ground pound yet, and neither has anyone else from what I can see.

I will make a mega post after more time spent with the game.

So far

Bad:

Automatic weapons kill a touch too quickly
3/5 spartan abilities seem borderline useless thus far
ADS is at best a hindrance
Sniper needs to scope quicker
Midship is a bit too dark and the lights are very distracting

Good:

Gunplay / melee / grenade trifecta all working just as a Halo game should
Near perfect use of aim assist
Netcode is solid
Sprint feels a lot more balanced with the progressive speedup and no shield recharge
Movement is on point. Very responsive with a fast lateral direction change for strafing

I think I actually lost that many points. I was in the middle of the gold 2 bar prior to that.

There isn't a movement penalty tho?

What do you think stabilizers are? People need to actively turn them off. When the real game launches, millions will probably never even know they can turn them off. With them on, you can't jump around while scoped with ADS.

Managed to find another group of 4 in matchmaking and got a few matches of two full parties. All close games for the most part.

Can't wait to play Truth with BR starts. That alone will make the map play so much better.

Anyway I've played about 20 hours of the beta already and I love it. My two biggest complaints with the gameplay are flinch and the spawns. We know flinch is being removed so I just hope the spawn system gets some adjustments before the release. surely it will though.

Just tried it today. TTK is ridiculously low. If 343i doesn't fix that for the full release I'm no longer a Halo fan. The first of Halo was always the one on one firefights where you out maneuver your opponent. With so low time to kill there's less tactics involved I felt. It felt too hectic and you should at least be able to turn off kill cam and Spartan chatter.

The ttk in this is way longer than halo ce.

CSR should not be affected unless the match finishes with both teams full, and give a massive decrease if you quit after the match begins. CSR should be hidden in lobbies as well.

Could someone tell me what TTK stands for? My random ass guess is "time to kill" but I could be wrong.
Yep. The person I was quoting said this wasn't like halo because you kill too fast. I was pointing out that in halo ce you can kill people way faster than this. The ttk in this is much closer to true halo (halo ce) than any of the other sequels have been imo.

TBH, I feel the same way he does. Die too quickly this time around.

The thing is, I played Halo CE on the PC with a mouse and keyboard, so when I think back on it, that felt fine. The quick deaths with a controller here don't.

That's fine if people think it is too quick (I disagree) but they shouldn't say it isn't halo. Halo has skill based quick ttk. The problem with halo 5 is certain weapons are op and they are weapons that require less skill to use. The ttk on the dmr is fine.

Your walking speed doesn't slow down is what I meant.

I just love how every weapon can be useful under differing conditions. No more just using the same gun for everything.

I think it's maybe less to do with the TTK and more to do with the lack of a strong aim assist. I no longer feel like I have any control when I'm shooting and moving around, or at least, I feel like I have less control.

Thus, it's frustrating.

If I had a mouse and keyboard, I'd probably be having way more fun. The speed of this game feels like it needs such a setup. It's why playing only makes me want Epic to put out another UT :P
