Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Biggest issue I have with Breakout, aside from super quick kill times, is the music during a 1v1. It's way too loud, couldn't hear footsteps or anything.

Eden reminds me of a launch week Forge map thrown together in 2 hours with prefab pieces.

I'm giving 343 the benefit of the doubt but they really aren't impressing me here.

Now that I have had a bit of time with the beta I figured I would give my thoughts on it.

I love it. When I first played the controls bothered me a bit but I switched to 7 sensitivity and finally settled on Halo 4 controls. It feels natural to me now so much so that I have tried to clamber and thruster in Halo 2 several times.

The weapons behave, sound and feel great. They give you a sense of weight and power that many games struggle with. Balance is key to halo and the end all be all was always the mid range BR, CE Pistol, Reach DMR etc. My play style favors those weapons still but not as much. The AR is now a threat (arguably too much of one). The mid range weapons do a much better job at differentiating themselves this time around. The Light Rifle is a beast with a three head shot kill but with a slower rate of fire. The rate of fire did throw me off the first couple times. It sounds glorious as well. The BR feels like it should except with auto aim toned down (keep it that way 343) the BR isnt a guaranteed kill against AR. I think this is good way to balance the AR and the BR. The DMR is a bit more redundant but maybe preferable for some.

Smart Scope. Much has been said about it so I wont go on about it. I think it is actually deters long BR and DMR shots with the ADS aesthetic but makes the AR a bit too formidable. I rarely use it but I think it has PROs and CONs. I'm in favor at this point.

Haven't played breakout yet.

The maps Truth, Regret, Empire and Eden are all good maps. I had some problems with Empire at first but it has grown on me. I love the verticality of them. I think there may be some more memorable maps this time around. The whole remix map strategy is very cool as well. I like the idea of map specific weapons as well. Truth has the Prophets Bane which is a blinding gold sword while Eden has the good ole energy sword I think that's very neat.

The new abilities are very interesting. Charge and Ground Pound are fun but useless in most competitive situations. I like that though. Those aren't going to completely change things. Thruster and Sprint are however (in my mind) the most Halo changing abilities. Sprint is implemented rather well I think with the shield recharge being restricted in the time you do it. I don't know what to say about it but there was never a time where I thought that sprint should be gone from the beta. Thruster is a game changer and I think for the best. I love the feeling of using it at the perfect moment to great effect. It is more a tool for the halo escape artists who love the get away and reverse a kill than anything. It also helps navigate in the vertical sections of the map. I love the new abilities and I'm the kind of guy who hated loadouts with armor abilities.

It is a very competitive game and that is something Halo hasn't been for a while. It is a very team based and very skill based and I love that about it.

I have a few quibbles with the game. SMG is just too good. It feels really awful getting killed by that thing. Weapon timers and power weapon announcements are unneeded and change the flow of battle in a negative way IMO. The bro high fives at the end are pretty weird but it isn't a deal breaker in any way. The sniper doesn't feel quite right to me either. It seems to easy to make close snapshots and the scope bothers me a bit.

Last, play the game before you throw out the stupid ass, "this looks like COD" line. This game does not play like COD.

Also, I had a friend just on and struggled to play the game. After watching him play a bit I gave him a tip that worked to help a lot. This game tempts you to go fast and dart around the map but it is more effective to play the more methodical Halo way. What I mean is that moving as a team and being Gun, Grenade and Melee focused is a more effective way to play and then just add thruster and sprint on top of that foundation. I think that says more about this game than anything. I have a ton of confidence in Halo 5 multi being amazing.

Anyone else dislike the announcer saying "Two on One" instead of "Two V One"

Also when scoring the whole "Two to One" sounds really weird. Either just say "Two...One." or "one all" if the score is tied. Also "Two to zero" should be "Two nil"

Let me guess, your from Europe? Lol

I have a feeling sliding will become more prevalent when the shotgun is available. The slide to shotgun combo could be quite good.

The way it sounds is fine.

Do you live outside the US?

Edit: beaten, makes sense

BXR is a medal. I don't know if anyone's noticed it yet.

The past few games all have my team mates have been off licking windows or something. It's getting rough.
