Halo Lore Thread

It's a typical set up chapter, but my issue was with sentence structure and grammar. Some of it just didn't roll well. Hope the whole book isn't like that.
Yeah, content-wise it's fine, whatever, but the writing is just soooo bland and uninteresting. If I didn't know it was from a published book I would honestly mistake it for some high school kid's Halo fanfic.

It's pulp licensed scifi fiction. Adjust your expectations.

Well I'm comparing it to every other halo novel (hence the Nylund mention), so my expectations are already calibrated properly, I'd say. And blech. Just one man's opinion though.

Yeah, agreeing with these.

Can someone explain the insult "hinge-head" to me?

I just read the novel Glassland and now I see it is in a #huntthetruth image.

I though I remember the elite's being called split-faces or split-lips.

Seems to me like the human jaw give human heads a hinge like appearance compared to the four separate mandibles of the elites.

You could read it as the Elite's mouth being full of hinges for their jaws. But really it's just another variation on the squid-face, split-lip, etc. colloquialisms.

I read the first one and then said "Nah, I can wait".

It's going to be a hard wait though!

Part of me regrets reading the spoilers, but thankfully they don't go into the new characters and their journey. Just the more overall lore tidbits. But I still don't recommend reading them! Wait for the novel to come out.

Ok.. we only have a little bit of a wait anyway.. and that one spoiler was enough!!

I can't believe Lord Hood was 117's father ALL ALONG!

Haha JK

Wait, So Halo New Blood is digital only? So I don't own a kindle, so I have no way to read it? What kinda BS is this?

Do you have a

-Phone?

or

-PC?

Then you have a kindle!

Okay, so I technically have a way to read it, but I don't want to read off a phone or my PC. So no physical copy? That just really really sucks.

People don't buy paper books anymore.

I'm half joking, but that almost definitely factors in. The other main reason is that it's much shorter, at about half the size of the other novels. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft/343i and/or the publisher are partly testing the waters for future novel releases.

That said, officially it's "digital first", which implies physical prints are at least a possibility. Considering that Stinkles has a digital short story coming soon and Staten has a digital novella later this year, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a printed collection of the three released, possibly with additional material. i.e. Halo: Evolutions Vol. 3.

Surefire way to make me double-dip.

Just make sure that Evolutions Vol 3 matched up, physical size-wise, with the rest, OR ELSE!

If you wanted matching Halo books, just print and bind the epub in your chosen dimension and print your own covers for them. Otherwise, just silence the OCD tendencies and give up now :)

What's the consensus on Broken Circle? I have read about 1/4 of it but can't seem to get into it. I've read every other Halo book but for some reason this one isn't grabbing me. Should I trudge onward or just bag it and read a synopsis?

Right now I'm at the part where
the san shyuum character and his sangheili escort land on the san shyuum planet and begin to explore the forerunner area.

It's good, I like it.

Definitely a light read.. the 2nd half of the book is a little more exciting I felt.

No clue how it will color the overall lore going forward, but I have to imagine we'll be seeing the characters again..

So with the GI article...

Cortana-ghost says: "John, the Domain is open. Meridian is next. You only have three days, John, the Reclamation is about to begin."

That being said,.. consider this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6ikvGgW5Ec

"In this hour of victory, we taste only defeat. I ask, why? We are Forerunners, guardians of all that exists. The roots of the galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms... And the impervious shelter beneath which it has prospered. I stand before you, accused of the sin of ensuring Forerunner ascendancy. Of attempting to save us from this fate where we are forced to... recede. Humanity stands as the greatest threat in the galaxy. Refusing to eradicate them is a fool's gambit. We squander eons in the darkness, while they seize our triumphs for their own. The Mantle of responsibility for all things belongs to Forerunners alone. Think of my acts as you will. But do not doubt the reality: the Reclamation... has already begun. And we are hopeless to stop it."

Perhaps the Reclamation isn't the humans taking over, but the Precursors [Non-Flood] coming back? I am pretty sure it was confirmed that the Didact's speech was 100,000 years ago or whatever, correct? So the Reclamation has been in process for a while?

Ahhhhhhhh!!! So much good stuff..

Also.. 4th Spartan on Locke's team is
Olympia Vale from Hunters in the Dark
so that should make for more excitement from the book!

I dunno if this provides anything of value, but did you guys see the Gameinformer Halo 5 cover? If for nothing else, that alien robot thing at a different angle.

Also from that issue,
Cortana says "The Domain is open. Meridian is next. You only have three days. John, the Reclamation is about to begin."
awww shiit

So
this means the domain was never destroyed by the Halos! Maybe the Floodcursors made it appear that way to make the Didact crazy...

I'm not seeing anything interactive like that. Just an overall page describing that they're going to be covering the game.

I can't remember which page it's on, but its like a scroll or.. whatever. Someone linked an image in the other thread. Probably try reddit?

Haha I know, EXCITING! (I posted about that a few posts up).

So much Halo goodness..

I'm still in the camp of it being present day, and the overlap of his claim of Reclamation starting and Cortanas claim of Reclamation starting just cements that in my mind.

You know things have gotten exciting when we gloss over the fact that Cortana is somehow speaking in Halo 5!

The second judgement of the Precursors is still coming...Could this be it? I wonder if they'll get any mention in the game itself, or if it's more of a frantic race between humanity, the covenant remnant, and perhaps the Didact and some Forerunners to obtain something or other.

I'm like 99.99% sure that was never confirmed, and I stand by my previous comments that it was not a literal speech given at any specific canonical time, and is rather just a closing monologue conveying a specific idea/tone to the audience. Like Halsey's monologue in Reach.

99.9% sure Catalog confirmed it was pre-Halo firing.

Yeah Catalog confirmed it twice that it was prior to the loss of Domain contact (which for the Forerunners was a long time ago).

Which makes the most sense, since even in Escalation we don't see the Didact with anyone else for him to be talking to.

So with that confirmed (100%!!)..

What the heck is the "RECLAMATION?!"

Is it also not odd that the Covenant mistranslated "Reclaimer" into "Reclamation"?

If we're [humans] are still supposed to be "Reclaimers" then maybe the reclamation 'beginning' is some sort of forced advancement by the Forerunners? Giving humanity access to all it's Tier 1 technology?

Re-claim - verb (used with object)
1. To claim or demand the return or restoration of, as a right, possession, etc.
2. To claim again.

But we're not really getting something again? Are we? Unless this is all some grand plan to advance Humanity back to where we were before contact with the Forerunners? Since when Humanity first faced the Flood and Forerunners, we were the ones who were destined to obtain the Mantle of Responsibility for all things.. ?

Could this be some grand plan by the Forerunners to atone for their mistakes.. perhaps part of Mendicant Bias's last commandments?

If so, why would it be causing so much destruction though? If Reclamation is a GOOD thing? Could be unintended consequences I guess.. or something else?

I love the Halo Lore, but unfortunately i read the first 3 book...

I am interested one thing: Where are the Forerunners Spaceships. Ok,i saw a lot of them destroyed in Halo Wars, but where are the other ships.

Many were destroyed in the Forerunner-Flood war because the Flood captured them and used them as kamikaze vectors for the Flood; many others were destroyed in the battles themselves and by the Precursor relics the Gravemind used. No actual mention is given about what happened to the ships under Offensive Bias' command after the destruction of Mendicant Bias' fleet, but presumably the Forerunner commander Didact took them with him and the remaining Foreunners.
