I'm really excited for this, but what is stopping them from announcing a PC version? Project Spark is coming to that Windows Store thing, I imagine that they can do the same with this.

I'd be willing to upgrade to Windows 8.1 too. Just give me a PC version.

If Mr. Phil Spencer wants me to take his comments on PC gaming seriously, he'd announce this collection for PC.....please.

Edit: I really shouldn't be port begging, but this makes no sense.

Would a PC version really take away much away from Xbox One sales?

I'd argues that the Xbox One and PC audience are different.

Stop port begging.

Who knows but in this particular case it looks way better for marketing when you can say "Only on Xbox One" for the holiday ads.

"Exclusively on Microsoft platforms." sounds pretty good too.

Hell, they can make like Destiny and heavily lean towards one platform during the ad campaign. That worked for Titanfall didn't it?

Recording of Ascension gameplay at RTX, I have to say I'm a little worried about how much screen tearing I noticed. There's seriously a lot of screen tearing.

What is screen tearing? I see the term thrown around a lot but I've never known what it's actually referring to.

I noticed some aliasing but that was about it in regard to graphical issues with the game.

The sky box is fucking gorgeous.

LOL.. how does it make no sense?

They want to sell Xbox's. You are port begging.

It's when the frame rate dips below 60 and the engine blends the frames together to keep the framerate up.

I'm sorry that I'm semi derailing this thread. I really want to play this. I'm glad that MS have at least mentioned PC a few times when talking about this game.

Portbegging can get you banned, he's just trying yo help you out.

Re: this only being on Xbox One.

I've been pretty much PC exclusive for 3 years now and I am buying the console just for MCC. Sure, I'll get Destiny and other games, but I probably would have waited for a redesign before I even thought of picking up a next gen machine.

I'm kinda disappointed they didn't show gameplay of another remastered map. Is there a recap anywhere of what was shown/revealed today?

This is screen tearing, the image is not completely in-sync and displays two or more frames in a single screen render.

It's a really annoying visual artifact, but I imagine this kind of thing will be fixed for launch.... Hopefully.

That is incorrect. You can get tearing at any framerate that isn't the same as the refresh rate. Tearing occurs when frames aren't able to be properly synced with the display's refresh rate. The engine's only method of preventing screen tearing is to lock the amount of frames the GPU can render every second (be it 30/60/120/etc) so that they will properly sync with the refresh rate (even if they are doubled or tripled). The engine isn't deliberately blending frames, the display is.

Here is a diagram from an Nvidia presentation that shows how tearing happens:

I'm in the same camp. Destiny is the only other console game that interests me at the moment and I was planning on waiting for the eventual PC release a year or two down the line. The MCC collection means I'll look to pick up an Xbox and Live subscription around Destiny's release and then the MCC later in the fall.

Unless Halo 5 is a true return to form, I'll sell the console when both the MCC and Destiny are released on PC in 2016.

We'll know December 27th

Speaking of which, I expect to see Halo 5 multiplayer at Gamescom or SDCC since the beta starts on December 27th.

Nah, I think that's too early still. Maybe a teaser at Gamescom but nothing more I'd imagine.

Oh yeah we get to play Halo 5 this year that's pretty fucking awesome.

Love that they are getting out in front of it with such an early beta. Can't remember a beta for a game being that early in a long, long time.

Whoa. That is nasty.

I knew the game had jaggies, but that tearing is worrisome. I hope that shit is fixed without the frame-rate dropping below 60. I have a feeling it will be, but I never thought ex-COD guys would release Titanfall with tearing and frame drops.

The game doesn't look that hot graphically to be having aliasing and tearing. Good lord, 343.

Yep and this will be a legitimate beta. I fully expect bugs and some crazy unbalanced guns with the beta happening 11 months before launch. I almost wish this was considered an alpha so we could get a second test closer to launch to see how much the game has changed. But yea, we get to play Halo 5 this year, and I'm excited.

She (you shouldn't assume). And I'm not. I remember when people used to be excited for stuff like mancannons, equipment, new things. I understand already being apprehensive in general, and disliking old, disruptive elements that return. But what about speed boost, AR, and weapon indicators in H2A warrant such a harsh reaction and condemnation? I'm really not seeing it.

Me neither. Though I would much prefer BR starts in Halo 2 anni (which may even be the case, we don't know details like this yet), having an AR start (buffed magnum secondary?) is certainly an improvement over a freaking SMG. That was so awful. Of course, it still remains to be seen exactly what the AR is like - is it CE, 3, or 4's variant, or new? or Reach's?

As for weapon indicators, they are not visible through map geometry at least in this build. When looking at a weapon, you see a very small indicator pointing to it, but not what the weapon actually is. Also, it seems that the indicator only pops up when you are close by, so there is some kind of radius check going on. I don't see this as a problem at all, just a nice touch for visibility purposes. Not like Halo 4's at all.

Speed Boost being a powerup is perfectly acceptable, in my opinion. One of the few additions from Halo 4 that I actually thought was good. It won't be a ordnance reward like in Halo 4 either, it will just spawn in a specific location like any good thing to remember and control. Hell, AAs should have just been time-limited powerups anyway.

Edit:

Concerning tearing: Likely a product of the stream or recording, but if not, don't judge until final release, polish happens last people - the game is months away. It's just crazy talk even mentioning it at all, take a chill pill and think about something else.

My criticism of the tearing criticism whipped up in shitty mspaint form:

Clouds mean an internet download or upload or whatever.

We probably will get a second beta. If they're really doing this to do gameplay testing, they'll probably have a stress test closer to launch.

It's a recording of a twitch stream, chill out.

I didn't notice any tearing in the original stream, so I'm thinking that it's an artifact of the recording.

Speed boost is gonna be a worthy addition as a map pickup, I think.

Also, I don't mind any of the ascension changes, but I always viewed that map as a fun place to mess around and do stupid stuff. So I don't really care.

I'm kinda worried about any "improvements" they add to a map like Lockout, for example, which is perfect as-is.

They've said that they're committed to only making changes that improve gameplay; that could just be PR speak, or it could mean that a map like Lockout would be more or less identical, but better looking.

Nah, it's gonna be all eyes on MCC until launch. Only other thing I expect to see is more details on Nightfall (and maybe the Halo tv series) at SDCC.

They did this with Titanfall. It still came out on PC. I hope it at least gets a delayed release on PC. Forge/Modding would be incredible outside the walled garden of consoles.

If it was Xbox One and PC they would still say exclusively on the XBO. Nothing new. But Halo just isn't right without a controller so I'm XBO version all the way. Although I did play a crazy crazy amount with the Gearbox Forum members back in the day of Halo PC.

Man that goes way back. I was a bit late to the CE PC party, but it was just stupid fun.

The thing is, the beta is a fairly significant draw for TMCC. Getting people hyped for the beta and telling them guaranteed entrance comes with purchase of the MCC will help sell the product.

In a weird way it could be like Crackdown and Halo 3 beta but instead of a new fantastic IP you get 4 games completely intact with the purchase of Beta access.

ditto, but I'm increasingly feeling we may be the only two :p
It just makes maps more interesting and give a secondary objective even in Team Slayer. In objective modes on Zanzibar you WANTED that gate open and the windmill platform dropped because it gave you more options to attack and made the enemy thin out to defend new areas.

Why on earth Halo or really no FPS did this more will baffle me for all eternity.

Also 2 new button events that would be awesome

Lockout- send the platform into free fall causing snow to kick up fast limiting player visibility making the map a close quarters experience for a minute or two

Coagulation- trigger an earthquake causing new paths for attack to open up.

Also add a lock button for the stairs leading to the top of the base. 30 seconds up with a 1:30m recgarge.
