Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

We wanted to provide you with an update on what we’re seeing as a result of yesterday’s content update (CU). We realize that silence and opacity, even when we have nothing new to say, is frustrating. With each change and/or update we make, it takes time for us to capture and analyze the data to determine the tangible impact to the game experience. Additionally, we've already begun work on future updates which will be informed by the data and community feedback we’re seeing from yesterday’s CU.

343 update. 20 minutes ago.

"Content Update" (improvement) vs. "Patch" (fixing)

I see what's going on, haha. Gotta love PR talk.

Lmao.

I mean what else can they do at this point except the obvious? It's improved for me, but all others can do is wait pretty much.

if you think about it, at this point i would ask for a refund, this game will go 'games with gold' eventually to make up for the massive monumental screw up this was, but not until the game is fully fixed...

Possibly a "buy xbox 1 get halo mcc for free"

End of the day, it's the only way you will be able to play all the classic halo games on a next gen system. You'll still be able to do that........one day, that day is just not today or probably anytime this year.

But i'm sure it will still sell like hot cakes, the angry mob will only get bigger after black friday

Waiting to chat with Xbox.com to get a refund..

"Please wait for an agent to respond. The current average wait time is 12 minutes. Thank you for your patience."

Sad, sad day. I spent $350 for this damn console, which I frankly don't even like; who the fuck designed this UI, to play this game that doesn't even work.

EDIT: Wait time just increased to 15 minutes..wtf Now it increased to 20 minutes...what the fuck is going on

You bought a $350 console you don't like?

You bought a $350 console you don't like?

I bought it to play this game. Anything else was whatever.

I had both an Xbox and Xbox 360 and enjoyed them both.

I thought people were being too picky about the UI, but goddamn is it unintuitive. It takes so many damn steps to get to anything you want. (You tell me to use pins) I do and it's fine, but there's really not much else I want for the system and it seems PS4 is this generation's console for 3rd party games.

But I was Halo faithful, I have 2 copies of H1 (in actuality, I've bought the game 5 times over with a digital copy of it for my 360, H:CE:A, and the MCC) H2 (Collector's edition still sealed) 2 copies of H3 (Legendary still sealed) ODST, Reach, and Halo 4. I have several of the books, I have a Master Chief ArtFX statue, and tons of other Halo crap and merchandise.

Call me an idiot, that's fine I am, but goddamn, never did I ever think they would botch this collection so hard.

In the end, I got my refund after 40 minutes of back and forth with the CSR. If they fix the game, ever, I'll be back. But for now, it didn't sit right with me that they had my $60 and I didn't.

Words can't express how much of a shit fest this fucking game is right now.

Sure they can. Matchmaking is slow and the game occasionally crashes. Parties are also often separated and playlists have incorrect player counts. The most recent patch improved matchmaking search times for some, but also introduced UI bugs. The game has been out for 10 days without resolution of these issues, but 343 and their representatives are being communicative and apparently working hard on fixes.

Yeah, I'm going to straight up disagree with you there.

So total fucking shit fest. Just like I said.

For now, you will continue to see uneven match-ups and larger than normal team sizes in matchmaking. This is a temporary situation that is caused by the fact that we are allowing more players than normal into a matchmaking session in order to improve overall matching times.

This part makes no sense.

I'd just like some blunt honesty as to what caused all of this. I have a gut feeling it's the UI, and I still don't know why they trusted UFG with such an important task.

It's possible that they don't yet know what caused the issues and the recent patch was more of a way to determine the cause rather than a fully fledged fix. It would explain Stinkles' comment that the patch will help them fix the problem.

Then they shouldn't have used the word "ensure" so goddamn much in the patch notes.

I tried to get a refund today and they told me they couldn't because of an "error" and refused to explain any more to me. Anybody have any luck getting a refund today?

I just got one like an hour ago. It took 40 minutes but I got it. I was just persistent and said several other people have gotten refunds.

Then how was it in any way "good communication" for them to claim the patch would fix things, if your scenario is true?

So did they claim there was an "error" at first to you, too,, until you persisted? That's pretty slimy.

No, they said that they changed their refund policy specifically for Halo. The CSR claimed it had been abused so they had to change it.

I stated again, several people have literally posted screenshots of their conversations with CSRs with the exact problems I'm having and getting refunds.

He started off saying he could only issue a refund if I couldn't even launch or install the game. He then suggested I contact 343i so they can "personally" help me. I went you really think they're going to personally help me when millions (thousands) of other people have the same issues I do? Be realistic.

Then he tried to get me to go through the troubleshooting process and I literally said, are we really doing this? 343i outright said there's issues. Then I told him I've hard reset my box, made sure my NAT was open, reset the game like 5-10x each time I play because it freezes so much and test my speed.

He then said, well it sounds like you did everything, told me to hold tight, came back, said he spoke to his Supervisor and said I could get a special one-time refund.

Got it. I'll try this. What a buncha dickbags.

Yeah, that's an interesting choice: "Matchmaking is taking too long, so we intentionally broke it in an effort to make it go faster. Which hasn't really worked, but we're going to leave it broken for now." I guess they have data that says people would rather get into uneven or overpopulated games quicker, than sit waiting.

holy titty milk on ice

Do you think that if 343i knew it was fucked on release that they wouldn't have slimmed down the online modes to damage control the online modes? Then they could slowly open the modes up over time like "free" content patches as they worked through the issues they would have known were there. It makes me wonder how much of this was not that it was broken in test circumstances but broken in the outside world where it was never stress tested.

In addition, is it possible that some of this is the result of bad game installs off disc?

You're the second person on Gaf to get this memo....weird that some reps are going for this line....

Like WTF>?

Still easier than returning the physical copy to someplace like Gamestop or Best Buy.

At first I was mostly being sarcastic about wanting to return this game, but now I genuinely feel ripped off.

How is MS/343/whoever in charge getting away with this colossal failure AND still giving people a hard time about refunds? They should not only have begun issuing MCC digital refunds, no questions asked, but worked with retailers on accepting any returned physical copies as well.

The iPhone "bendgate" had a bigger impact than this, and that only affected a handful of people. The issues with this game affect every single individual person who purchased it and played it moderately.

Just got into a halo 2 anniversary game very easy

I've been getting into games very easy since the patch, but that hasn't stopped the player balancing from being insane. I think the majority of my matches went something like this: 5vs4, 5vs5, 5vs6, 4vs3, 3vs3 and the real kicker, which happened a few times, 6vs3.

Is regular-ass 4vs4 even a possibility?

Just to ask again, what can I do since I have a digital code as far as a refund goes? Don't think I can take it back to GS.

I got a refund with MS customer support chat.

They wanted to know what troubleshooting steps I'd taken, so I ran through the usual suggestions: connection speed, ping, judder; wired directly to modem, etc.

Only took five minutes.
