Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Great post Ghaleon. One thing Halo 3 did really well was push content creation and sharing. Its fileshare format, with the 6 or 24 cinema reel squares, all viewable whilst in the pre-game lobby, is unrivalled by both Reach and Halo 4.
Reach had in-game downloading for maps and gametypes, a step up from the Halo 3 method.

Halo 4 scraps this entirely, and you can only achieve this by having a player's gamertag.

I did not get my code either. Checked spam and everything. This thread over on Halo Waypoint is exploding, man.

It's like a beautiful train wreck.

I like how 343i is so quiet to it's own community but before the game released they were interacting.

It's the weekend. Also, still hasn't been a month since launch. I'd imagine most of the studio is still vacationing if not already.

Just had a game of regicide where a guy spent the whole game sprint/plasma sticking people. It then reminded me of a few other games where I'd seen this happen. I assume there's a visor/helmet/spartan strap-on attached to plasma sticks in this game?

Halo 3 file share was awesome. Never looked at a screenshot in reach ever but in 3 I was always checking.

Hey I'm not the company catering to millions of fans/customers but they shouldn't have released the specs on a weekend if they could not guarantee everyone would have them unlocked. Should have just unlocked them server side and saved all this mess. I mean go read that thread. I never received mine either.

About the interacting part, it's just not with that topic but as a whole. They have been super quiet and I'm pretty sure not all of them are on vacation.

Should we still trust 343 even though they've let us down many times?

Hell now. I don't get why people are giving them a break. Who cares if it's their "first" Halo game. They have many people who worked on previous Halo games, they should know what makes a "Halo" game. Also, some payed $60 dollars for a game, not $40, not $30, everyone should expect shit to be fixed.

What Happened? by Gandhi

I have given ten years of my life to competitive Halo. I’ve gone from being a national champion to commentating. For those who have been apart of Halo as long as I have will not argue that Halo has progressively gotten worse. Sadly, most of you started in either Halo 3 or the game that solely crippled the community called Halo Reach. You all have missed out on the glory days of Halo for sure. There is nothing more frustrating than being told to have patience by various people in this community. I’ve been doing this shit for ten years and I know what works and when something sucks.

I’m not going to talk about Halo CE much but know that it had/still has a cult like following. In order to play the game you had to manually searching for games through a program than ran on your PC. It was a major hassle but everyone did it because the game was so enjoyable to play.

Halo 2 was completely different than Halo CE, but it had something that Halo CE didn’t have… Wait for it…. Xbox LIVE! Finding games was so easy that everyone played for hours upon HOURS every day. Yes, the majority of Halo CE Pros despised the game at first but it didn’t stop them from logging countless hours on the game. “How was this possible?” It’s called RANKS! Ask every single “known” console FPS player what game they enjoyed the best and 99% of them will say Halo 2. This was all because of the ranking system and the online charts. Rumble Pit, Head to Head, Team Slayer, and both clan matches were the playlists that if one got to the top page they were viewed as gods. I remember making it onto the leader boards of Minor Clan matches (I believe that’s what it was called) and I printed out the page and brought it to school just so I could brag to my friends. This matchmaking playlist was AMAZING. It took forever to level up and you got punished for losing games. Unfortunately, Bungie didn’t realize the power the playlist had on the community and decided to “noob it down” for Halo 3.

Halo 3 began the dawn of customizations and forge maps. Some view it as a blessing others view it as a curse but that’s all perception. Regardless, Halo 3 had the largest on-line viewership of any other Halo Titles. Tsquared got on the Dr. Pepper bottle, Instinct got sponsored by Old Spice, Hot Pockets sponsored Triggers Down, and Stride Gum sponsored Carbon (but would move to sponsoring individual players). After reading that sentence there is no arguing that HALO was at it’s peak in terms of sponsors and exposure, but on-line experience wasn’t the same. Yes, MLG had a playlist and you could achieve a level “50,” but just about anyone in the top 64 could achieve a level 50. Personally, it wasn’t as meaningful to me, but it was still better than nothing. It gave a lot of new comers to the scene something to achieve if they couldn’t make it to an event. I believe this is the most overlooked detail of a ranking system. If players enter a play-list designed towards competitive play they are interested in being the best they will most likely look into events. Not everyone has hundreds, or even thousands of dollars to travel to an event to compete especially if they don’t know how good they are. If your dream is to become a professional player but if you don’t have the money to travel you’re essentially waiting around for the event to be close to your area. Without a ranked playlist these individuals are just sitting around playing various play-lists just to stop them from putting a bullet in their brain from boredom.

Halo Reach….. That’s all I’ll say about that. The Noble 6 was a pussy.

Now, I’m going to skip over talking about Halo 4. Ah, fuck it. I’ll talk a little bit about it. Halo 4 peaked at 470,534 on-line users on November 7th. Since November 7th the game has been on a steady decline. We have seen lows of 137,056 on-line users. Wow, that’s pretty abysmal. Now correlation doesn’t prove causation but it’s think it’s pretty safe to say that the online experience in Halo 4 just isn’t satisfactory. The biggest problem is ranks. I don’t understand how a game can get worse over the years, but Halo has done it. They were FLAWLESS with the on-line experience in Halo 2. Completely flawless, but then they get rid of it and turned it into a steamy pile of shit. This should be alarming for everyone who loves the halo series because it’s not looking good for us. I don’t want to talk about game types and settings for competitive play because it’s not going to change anyone’s perception, but food for thought. There is currently 2,013 online users in Team Slayer Pro. Team Slayer Pro is a stripped down version of Halo 4, but most players don’t like the stripped down playlist. Now Infinity Slayer has 26,861 players as we speak, so it’s clear what the majority of people enjoy. Now the obvious choice for competitive settings would be something in between Team Slayer Pro and Infinity slayer, but what’s actually happening is the opposite. Ghostayame, my former teammate and pretty good friend, is testing BR only start. He’s stripping the game down to the point where it’s more unappealing than Team Slayer Pro. If these settings are finalized you can expect about 2,000-4,000 players searching the MLG Play-list when it’s released. I just don’t comprehend the mindset of people. EVERYONE preached for fucking months before Halo 4 was launched that “everything needs to be vanilla. Let the game evolve. Blah!” Now the games been out for almost a month and everyone wants it changed. Still I can’t really figure out what’s worse, changing the settings to BR only and stripping down the game or using ALL FORGE MAPS so no casual knows what the fuck is going on.

Here’s the real message I want to convey to all developers (especially 343). The gaming industry is BOOMING. If you want your multiplayer title to be successful you MUST include a basic spectator mode, a bad ass rank play list, and you have to support the title in the competitive scene. It isn’t hard to understand. Not to be cliche but look at League of Legends. League is by far the biggest game is Professional Gaming and they have the three basics. A working ranked play-list (although ELO Hell sucks!), a sufficient spectator mode, and they support the competitive scene so much that they throw tournaments for the game. It is very hard to compete with that, so if you aren’t willing to even give your players two out of three of those things your game will eventually die. I give the life expectancy of games without the basics about six to nine months.

I sincerely hope we can find gametypes that make Halo 4 highly competitive but as it stands I’m not getting my hopes up. Sometimes people just care about the brand and not what’s good for everyone. Peace!

Yea I only played it once but first impressions were great. About to play Extraction on whatever map it's played on.
On Station 9? The gametype is fun, but the map is ok. It's too bottleneck-y imo. Also it seems like there should be a couple lifts in certain parts but aren't for some reason

So, did anyone here preorder this when it came out? I just noticed its sold out, and it should be shipping soon:

FUD_Sleeper-Resin_Photo_02__90129_zoom.jpg

I'm pretty sure I will get it, I have it pre-ordered and likely can work something out to afford it. Im a sucker for these things, and this looks pretty cool.. not as nice as the Weta statues though. Speaking of statues, I cannot wait til the Halo 4 Cortana Sideshow piece is revealed.. I imagine it should be shown soon. Also, while on the subject, this is what the McFarlane Knight figure looks like:

other_knight_photo_01_dp.jpg

Its decent enough, but man.. I just am not a fan of the Knights design in general.. It sort of looks like a knock off transformer or something. Especially with how toy like it looks. Why can't McFarlane make their Halo figures more detailed like their other lines?

--------

Off topic, but I need a new phone since mine is broken.. I am with T-Mobile... any suggestions?

I did not get my code either. Checked spam and everything. This thread over on Halo Waypoint is exploding, man.

Yeah, no matter what I do or who I talk to I do not get emails from MS.. My proofs were wrong a while back and even by changing them months ago, calling and talking to them, etc they still cannot send me emails. I bought the LE so no worries, but its gonna be a pain when its something I cannot get otherwise.

I wish they'd drop the slots concept and just go to total file space. Especially with the forced filter view. Don't need filters if there's a fixed amount of content ever available in a share, but it'd make sense if I could stuff tons more items in there.

Without Campaign or Spartan Ops films I don't know how'd you get close to the 2GB fileshare limit.

Formal: "Yo Tash, GET THE FUCK OFF OF MY TEAM OMG U GUYS KILL THE BALL FUCK!"

Or at least that's how I heard it ;)

I like how Formal is complaining a lot but plays like shit for the objective many times, was the same at MLG Dallas.

Tashi go on a rampage against him.

Formal's west coast so according to personal experience, he shouldn't be able to damage Tashi at all anyway, lol.

EDIT: Unless it's a west coast host, in which case, sweet revenge :)

Ghandi all mad...

but really I feel exactly the same as he does.

The second answers the first.

They cant take criticism?

Heres how I see it, Halo had a huge following back when it was just about player skill, everyone had the same abilities. It was up to you how you came ahead. Now its about rock paper scissors who has the better weapon for each scenario it comes down to luck. Noone likes that. They also statistically are losing fans. Halo fans are going over to Blops2 because Blops2 is a better Halo4. Halo4 tried to be CoD. Why would they play the sketchy framerate, broken MM piece of garbage that is H4 when they could play the smooth 60fps almost instant MM of Blops2?

Once Halo 5 goes back to Halo 2 gameplay with no frills, includes a solid ranking system like in the past (H2+H3) and a solid set of tools (Forge, Community Files, Bungie Favorites) and Weekly rotationed playlists, only then will they start getting those players back. Along with SMART MM decisions. Not decisions based on past MM game data. Some people didn't shut their game off but instead played unhappily for awhile hoping it'd get better. Why trust that data?

The sad part is they will probably blame Blops2 success as the reason instead of understanding their core is pissed because you copied CoD to begin with. A pure evolved Halo did not need any of the CoD stuff, instead they could have built on the shared community and the competitive aspect.

It's going to be pretend like nothing's wrong from here on, not kidding myself on that. There's way to much disorganization between the PR and designers, much less PR and the community. The game is a success among new players, mission accomplished.

Any news on a regional/language filter for matchmaking? I have my own set of gameplay complaints too, but that's the biggest flaw so far IMO.

Coz McFarlane make bullshit halo stuff. The majority of the the stuff is lazy out of scale bullshit.

I think McFarlane has 3-4 scales in operations currently.

Reach Scale
Halo 3 Scale
Halo 4 Scale.

WTF. Iv got a Jorge that's bigger than an elite and a brute thats smaller than chief....

This is what collectors have to deal with.

To me, every Specialization save for Pioneer was created for the sole purpose of fixing something broken in the sandbox that wouldn't have been broken had it not been for 343i's Cawadooty-esque tampering.

Wetworks/Stealth - Made specifically to counter the broken wallhax ability
Operator/Wheelman - Made specifically to counter low vehicle health and Plasma Pistol starts
Pathfinder/Gunner - Buffs default Warthog turret to make it more viable
Engineer/Drop Recon - Makes it easier to find random Global Ordnance
Stalker/Nemesis - Helps you navigate with a red X
Rogue/Stability - Made specifically to counter flinch
Tracker/Requisition - Makes it less frustrating to get random Personal Ordnance because you can roll again

They're all designed specifically to fix something that was the result of their own actions. If PV wasn't overpowered you wouldn't need Stealth. If there were no PP spawns you wouldn't need Wheelman or Gunner. If there were no random drops you wouldn't need Drop Recon. If you had a red X or didn't have instant respawn you wouldn't need Nemesis. If there was scope breaking instead of flinching you wouldn't need Stability. If you didn't get personal ordnance there'd be no need for Requisition.

It's like breaking a giant clay vase and then duct taping the pieces back together - in the wrong positions, to boot.

Covenant Loadout Mastery nets you the SURG Recon Armor Skin. Probably that.

We are basically saying the same thing except I am implying that the sandbox things are not broken, they are like this intentionally to allow for Specializations. That is what is tragic about this. Remove anything nerf'd to allow for the Specialization and remove the Specializations itself and you probably have a pretty decent game even with the other stuff but if you think they are going to do away with flinch knowing what we know now and you can forget it.

This is what happens when you copy folks. It was hard to put Specializations into a Halo sandbox so this is what you got.

You know what I might have accepted? Do away with ordinace. Have Specializations act like an orindance when you are on a "killstreak" your special allows for some sort of Halo 3 equipment, Overshield, Camo etc. That would have allowed the map flow they wanted without killing the game the way they did.

Maybe as far as sales but the game is dwindling online. Casuals (who they aimed for) are not a loyal bunch. CoD players (who they aimed for) will not give up CoD for Halo.

You still have an issue with early SR rank people feeling overmatched in Halo 4. I know you unlock everything before 50 but sometimes you lose someone after just a few matches. That is the casual fan for ya.

Commendations pretty much make it so even just tweaking PO to have less/frequent power-weapons is impossible. =/

They got their money up front though. Any players buying into the game this holiday season will be either optimistic as everyone here was at launch or just plain ignorant. MM numbers aren't going to affect MS financially, since most buyers get Halo for campaign (apparently, I didn't hear this until recently).

Kind of actively shooting themselves in the foot with the boring looking DLC maps but I'm sure some people will buy it to make it worthwhile.

They can take constructive criticism. "Waypoint is a piece of shit" isn't helpful criticism.

But there is constructive cristicism out in the wild. Of course there is a lot of bullshit, but this is the case for every release of everything in the world lol. You have to dig to find gold.

Something similar has been on my mind too. It seems like a lot of people hated Reach that much that they don't want to look at it subjectively. I personally am not sure whether I prefer Halo 4 over Reach. Reach wasn't a ''bad'' game, but it wasn't a good Halo. Similar to Reach, Halo 4 isn't a bad game, but it is much further away from being a Halo game than Reach ever was.

I understand there is helpful criticism here and we have a LOT of good posters, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. My main point is for every 1 Ghaleon, Juices, Dax, Overdoziz, or even Kyle, we have a million minkTANKS, Duji, and other shitty posters who go on the attack instead of cooling down and making well thought-out posts. I imagine if I were a poster here and made the game I would be immediately turned off by people who waltz around saying that it's shitty just as much as I would probably hate the Hydras and Cyclones for not being honest and true (all the time, yes, Cyclone made the one post) about what they would like to see different.

Having to dig around to find the gold isn't worth having to see the million degrading posts (to me anyway).

For instance, if that kid had said "Waypoint for iOS is really laggy" then someone could come along and say "we are having backend issues" or "there is an update soon." Instead he said, "waypoing for iOS is a piece of shit." Where do you begin to respond to that?

Oh shit, apparently there were people who consistently get email notifications from Microsoft with deals linked to their GT that didn't get the Specializations code. I thought it was just people like me who had outdated contact information. Like, there are people spending money on the map packs (and getting the email notification that they've spent money on the map packs) that aren't able to get the code.

That'd be hilarious if it wasn't so not hilarious.

In terms of Waypoint criticism that is constructive. My god that thing needs to just be torn down and redone, by whoever did the Bungie stats.

They shouldn't be worrying about all that fancy dodads. They should be figuring out how to streamline the stats so people can get where they want as quickly as possible. I shouldn't be waiting on visual transitions that are wasting my time. I just want stats I don't care about one screen fading over to the next one.

No moving background, some people are on less fortunate computers. Just gimme something crisp and fast loading. My work computer is terrible. I swear Halo 5 waypoint stats are going to need a modern age video card just to load them.

but I think Halo CE is the truest and most skillfull...

Never really gave it a chance. Just played the CEA campaign once. I'm sure its skillful, but it had no Live. I don't think Halo 2 added anything too game breaking either? Maybe a bit too much auto-aim but they are both Halo as much as Halo can be Halo.

What I mean is the argument isnt H:CE vs H2 its H:CE+H2 vs H3 Reach + H4.

On the other hand, one might think it's their job to figure the "bullshit" out. When the quality of your product (Waypoint) becomes a well-known joke around here, and the reasons are common knowledge, you're just making up excuses.

Waypoint IOS was replaced by smartglass on IOS. That's why it hasn't been updated.

Not that I blame anyone for not knowing this, it's not like MS/343 is/are actually being forthcoming with information.
