Yup.

Reach had in-game downloading for maps and gametypes, a step up from the Halo 3 method.Great post Ghaleon. One thing Halo 3 did really well was push content creation and sharing. Its fileshare format, with the 6 or 24 cinema reel squares, all viewable whilst in the pre-game lobby, is unrivalled by both Reach and Halo 4.
I did not get my code either. Checked spam and everything. This thread over on Halo Waypoint is exploding, man.

It's like a beautiful train wreck.
I like how 343i is so quiet to it's own community but before the game released they were interacting.

Ruh roh. Those of you who registered for the league and haven't played your match yet, you are running out of time.
I'm a filthy Canadian and I got my code so it ain't that.Looks like being in Canada means I wasn't eligible for a code. Not that it matters since I'm no longer playin', but I was hoping to give it out.

Just had a game of regicide where a guy spent the whole game sprint/plasma sticking people. It then reminded me of a few other games where I'd seen this happen. I assume there's a visor/helmet/spartan strap-on attached to plasma sticks in this game?
Yep. I wish it was open at bottom mid though. And it needs a better way to get to top yellow from the frontlol play one game of Simplex and I knew all the call outs already. Damn good map.
It's the weekend. Also, still hasn't been a month since launch. I'd imagine most of the studio is still vacationing if not already.
Should we still trust 343 even though they've let us down many times?

I have given ten years of my life to competitive Halo. Ive gone from being a national champion to commentating. For those who have been apart of Halo as long as I have will not argue that Halo has progressively gotten worse. Sadly, most of you started in either Halo 3 or the game that solely crippled the community called Halo Reach. You all have missed out on the glory days of Halo for sure. There is nothing more frustrating than being told to have patience by various people in this community. Ive been doing this shit for ten years and I know what works and when something sucks.
Im not going to talk about Halo CE much but know that it had/still has a cult like following. In order to play the game you had to manually searching for games through a program than ran on your PC. It was a major hassle but everyone did it because the game was so enjoyable to play.
Halo 2 was completely different than Halo CE, but it had something that Halo CE didnt have Wait for it . Xbox LIVE! Finding games was so easy that everyone played for hours upon HOURS every day. Yes, the majority of Halo CE Pros despised the game at first but it didnt stop them from logging countless hours on the game. How was this possible? Its called RANKS! Ask every single known console FPS player what game they enjoyed the best and 99% of them will say Halo 2. This was all because of the ranking system and the online charts. Rumble Pit, Head to Head, Team Slayer, and both clan matches were the playlists that if one got to the top page they were viewed as gods. I remember making it onto the leader boards of Minor Clan matches (I believe thats what it was called) and I printed out the page and brought it to school just so I could brag to my friends. This matchmaking playlist was AMAZING. It took forever to level up and you got punished for losing games. Unfortunately, Bungie didnt realize the power the playlist had on the community and decided to noob it down for Halo 3.
Halo 3 began the dawn of customizations and forge maps. Some view it as a blessing others view it as a curse but thats all perception. Regardless, Halo 3 had the largest on-line viewership of any other Halo Titles. Tsquared got on the Dr. Pepper bottle, Instinct got sponsored by Old Spice, Hot Pockets sponsored Triggers Down, and Stride Gum sponsored Carbon (but would move to sponsoring individual players). After reading that sentence there is no arguing that HALO was at its peak in terms of sponsors and exposure, but on-line experience wasnt the same. Yes, MLG had a playlist and you could achieve a level 50, but just about anyone in the top 64 could achieve a level 50. Personally, it wasnt as meaningful to me, but it was still better than nothing. It gave a lot of new comers to the scene something to achieve if they couldnt make it to an event. I believe this is the most overlooked detail of a ranking system. If players enter a play-list designed towards competitive play they are interested in being the best they will most likely look into events. Not everyone has hundreds, or even thousands of dollars to travel to an event to compete especially if they dont know how good they are. If your dream is to become a professional player but if you dont have the money to travel youre essentially waiting around for the event to be close to your area. Without a ranked playlist these individuals are just sitting around playing various play-lists just to stop them from putting a bullet in their brain from boredom.
Halo Reach .. Thats all Ill say about that. The Noble 6 was a pussy.
Now, Im going to skip over talking about Halo 4. Ah, fuck it. Ill talk a little bit about it. Halo 4 peaked at 470,534 on-line users on November 7th. Since November 7th the game has been on a steady decline. We have seen lows of 137,056 on-line users. Wow, thats pretty abysmal. Now correlation doesnt prove causation but its think its pretty safe to say that the online experience in Halo 4 just isnt satisfactory. The biggest problem is ranks. I dont understand how a game can get worse over the years, but Halo has done it. They were FLAWLESS with the on-line experience in Halo 2. Completely flawless, but then they get rid of it and turned it into a steamy pile of shit. This should be alarming for everyone who loves the halo series because its not looking good for us. I dont want to talk about game types and settings for competitive play because its not going to change anyones perception, but food for thought. There is currently 2,013 online users in Team Slayer Pro. Team Slayer Pro is a stripped down version of Halo 4, but most players dont like the stripped down playlist. Now Infinity Slayer has 26,861 players as we speak, so its clear what the majority of people enjoy. Now the obvious choice for competitive settings would be something in between Team Slayer Pro and Infinity slayer, but whats actually happening is the opposite. Ghostayame, my former teammate and pretty good friend, is testing BR only start. Hes stripping the game down to the point where its more unappealing than Team Slayer Pro. If these settings are finalized you can expect about 2,000-4,000 players searching the MLG Play-list when its released. I just dont comprehend the mindset of people. EVERYONE preached for fucking months before Halo 4 was launched that everything needs to be vanilla. Let the game evolve. Blah! Now the games been out for almost a month and everyone wants it changed. Still I cant really figure out whats worse, changing the settings to BR only and stripping down the game or using ALL FORGE MAPS so no casual knows what the fuck is going on.
Heres the real message I want to convey to all developers (especially 343). The gaming industry is BOOMING. If you want your multiplayer title to be successful you MUST include a basic spectator mode, a bad ass rank play list, and you have to support the title in the competitive scene. It isnt hard to understand. Not to be cliche but look at League of Legends. League is by far the biggest game is Professional Gaming and they have the three basics. A working ranked play-list (although ELO Hell sucks!), a sufficient spectator mode, and they support the competitive scene so much that they throw tournaments for the game. It is very hard to compete with that, so if you arent willing to even give your players two out of three of those things your game will eventually die. I give the life expectancy of games without the basics about six to nine months.
I sincerely hope we can find gametypes that make Halo 4 highly competitive but as it stands Im not getting my hopes up. Sometimes people just care about the brand and not whats good for everyone. Peace!
On Station 9? The gametype is fun, but the map is ok. It's too bottleneck-y imo. Also it seems like there should be a couple lifts in certain parts but aren't for some reasonYea I only played it once but first impressions were great. About to play Extraction on whatever map it's played on.
I did not get my code either. Checked spam and everything. This thread over on Halo Waypoint is exploding, man.
Formal: "Yo Tash, GET THE FUCK OFF OF MY TEAM OMG U GUYS KILL THE BALL FUCK!"
Or at least that's how I heard it
I like how Formal is complaining a lot but plays like shit for the objective many times, was the same at MLG Dallas.
Tashi go on a rampage against him.
I like how 343i is so quiet to it's own community but before the game released they were interacting.
Wow Waypoint on iOS is such a piece of shit
The second answers the first.
The sad part is they will probably blame Blops2 success as the reason instead of understanding their core is pissed because you copied CoD to begin with. A pure evolved Halo did not need any of the CoD stuff, instead they could have built on the shared community and the competitive aspect.
Its decent enough, but man.. I just am not a fan of the Knights design in general.. It sort of looks like a knock off transformer or something. Especially with how toy like it looks. Why can't McFarlane make their Halo figures more detailed like their other lines?
To me, every Specialization save for Pioneer was created for the sole purpose of fixing something broken in the sandbox that wouldn't have been broken had it not been for 343i's Cawadooty-esque tampering.
Wetworks/Stealth - Made specifically to counter the broken wallhax ability
Operator/Wheelman - Made specifically to counter low vehicle health and Plasma Pistol starts
Pathfinder/Gunner - Buffs default Warthog turret to make it more viable
Engineer/Drop Recon - Makes it easier to find random Global Ordnance
Stalker/Nemesis - Helps you navigate with a red X
Rogue/Stability - Made specifically to counter flinch
Tracker/Requisition - Makes it less frustrating to get random Personal Ordnance because you can roll again
They're all designed specifically to fix something that was the result of their own actions. If PV wasn't overpowered you wouldn't need Stealth. If there were no PP spawns you wouldn't need Wheelman or Gunner. If there were no random drops you wouldn't need Drop Recon. If you had a red X or didn't have instant respawn you wouldn't need Nemesis. If there was scope breaking instead of flinching you wouldn't need Stability. If you didn't get personal ordnance there'd be no need for Requisition.
It's like breaking a giant clay vase and then duct taping the pieces back together - in the wrong positions, to boot.
Covenant Loadout Mastery nets you the SURG Recon Armor Skin. Probably that.
It's going to be pretend like nothing's wrong from here on, not kidding myself on that. There's way to much disorganization between the PR and designers, much less PR and the community. The game is a success among new players, mission accomplished.
Maybe as far as sales but the game is dwindling online. Casuals (who they aimed for) are not a loyal bunch. CoD players (who they aimed for) will not give up CoD for Halo.
You still have an issue with early SR rank people feeling overmatched in Halo 4. I know you unlock everything before 50 but sometimes you lose someone after just a few matches. That is the casual fan for ya.
Someone should make a HaloGAF Halo 4 montage for Christmas.
Before everyone stops playing the game.

They can take constructive criticism. "Waypoint is a piece of shit" isn't helpful criticism.

Um....what?

Something similar has been on my mind too. It seems like a lot of people hated Reach that much that they don't want to look at it subjectively. I personally am not sure whether I prefer Halo 4 over Reach. Reach wasn't a ''bad'' game, but it wasn't a good Halo. Similar to Reach, Halo 4 isn't a bad game, but it is much further away from being a Halo game than Reach ever was.
But there is constructive cristicism out in the wild. Of course there is a lot of bullshit, but this is the case for every release of everything in the world lol. You have to dig to find gold.
But Waypoint is a piece of shit. They can take constructive criticism. "Waypoint is a piece of shit" isn't helpful criticism.

but I think Halo CE is the truest and most skillfull...
I understand there is helpful criticism here and we have a LOT of good posters, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. My main point is for every 1 Ghaleon, Juices, Dax, or even Kyle, we have a million minkTANKS, Duji, and other shitty posters who go on the attack instead of cooling down and making well thought-out posts. I imagine if I were a poster here and made the game I would be immediately turned off by people who waltz around saying that it's shitty just as much as I would probably hate the Hydras and Cyclones for not being honest and true (all the time, yes, Cyclone made the one post) about what they would like to see different.
Having to dig around to find the gold isn't worth having to see the million degrading posts (to me anyway).
For instance, if that kid had said "Waypoint for iOS is really laggy" then someone could come along and say "we are having backend issues" or "there is an update soon." Instead he said, "waypoing for iOS is a piece of shit." Where do you begin to respond to that?
