I wonder what 343 thinks of Halo 4 now. It was obviously a commercial success, but with the player count dropping they have to think that they're doing something wrong. I also wonder what they're doing now, because listening to the community isn't it.

I understand people being pissed off at CSR, I am, visible on Halo Waypoint only sucks, especially since it is a horrible UI to navigate.
But did anyone actually read the CSR announcement news post?
From the start is was only going to be visible on Waypoint.
Noticed that too. Again, definitely a step in the right direction.
However, I was thinking: maybe CSR won't be visible in-game on your baseball card because it's impossible to display? Like, they actually can't import it to the game's UI. That might be why it'll be available on every platform accept for in-game.

Polygon's Bungie article is online!

Chiming in to say Despair is still awesome for KoTH.
Forge in Halo 4 is gross. Like super gross.Sure, but it looks gross. I think it was mentioned the guy who made the map is planning on remaking it on Ravine. Hopefully it looks a lot better...
Also, aren't ranks by playlist? Because all the spartan data in-game seems to be overall stats.CSR isn't viewable in-game because 343 doesn't want to promote boosting. That was Frankie's reasoning during pre-launch Halo 4 for no ranking system, so I'm sure that's the case now.

I don't know. I'm keeping my expectations in check until we find out more.
The trend with these giant studios working on big-budget games is becoming a disturbing one to me. Focus groups, Phd's overseeing play tests and monitoring eye movement and what not, publishers and marketing divisions butting their noses into the design process.
The best thing any game could have going for it is a singular vision and focus: a set of central design tenets that ring true throughout. If you try to incorporate all of this other "data" during the process, you wind up with a game that's trying too hard to please too many people, and the whole experience is at risk of becoming diluted as a result.
I understand the idea that with these huge projects there's big money at stake, and those financial risks have to be minimized, but I'd argue that taking those risks and sticking to the core principals that the design leads have in mind are the only way to make a truly great game.
Except I've only ever gotten 2 hills on it and they both were death zones.Chiming in to say Despair is still awesome for KoTH.
Having a visible in game rank I think would retain more players. More players = more $$$
Who gives a shit about boosting?

Plus the fact that Bungie has gotten progressively worse. Of course, they tend to do well when they start new projects (Myth, Halo), so maybe Destiny will be worth a look. I don't see it as being a competitive MP FPS that a lot of us are looking for though.
Bks praising/hoping for CSR (to be like Halo 2/3) outside of GAF. lol wow
Poor Bulletin.
Goodbye Trueskill Based Ranking System.

It might not be that simple. CSR was an afterthought once the game went gold and the community cried out for a ranking system.
I highly doubt it's as simple as "hey, let's make an algorithm that displays skill in a 1-50 form, then let's drag and drop that number on to people's baseball cards in the game!" Then again, maybe it is.
Regardless, there has to be a reason that 343i isn't promoting CSR in-game (other than "boosting"), yet it'll be available on literally every other device applicable. My guess is it's more trouble to put in-game than it's worth, and 343i doesn't want to deal with inserting another TU and slightly modifying the UI in April.
That's completely my guess, though. It's definitely not as simple as "putting a number on a screen". Prove me otherwise.
Wait, so you're telling me the company who apparantly did the impossible and .mapped bloom out of Reach can't put a number on a screen in Halo 4? Things must be really falling apart over there...
While playing Halo 4, matched up in lobby waiting for the game to load:
"Hey, are these guys any good?"
"I'll check their CSR on waypoint. Page is loading, gotta wait for that animated background. I think it's in one of these animating drop down menus? Oh here it is."
*clicks*
"Oh, I have to sign in to my Microsoft account first, hold on. Damn, 'an error has occured'. What if I try..."
"Dude, the game is starting."

Also, when will TU Beta Slayer be making an appearence in Halo 4, a playlist which runs the prospective February TU changes past the community first? I know it fizzled out in Reach and literally nothing came of it but the idea was in the right place.
Basically but not everybody is nerdy enough to check their stats. I'd actually like to see if there have been any stats on the percent of people who actually go online to check their Halo stats...
The people who want to be ranked, will now HAVE to. They cant just do it in-game like the last Halo's. So these people who dont check the website arent going to care for these playlists.
Its like "O shit we forgot ranks in the game" "O well we can just make a new BPR acronym on Waypoint and it'll be Good Enough™"
Why are they blatantly ignoring the cry for a classic playlist? Its not likr they will be asmtng the game is a fail. Infinity slayer has its fun moments but evey so often I get sick of the BS and want to play good old Halo. Also what happen to them bringing back slayer pro? How long does it take to make changes to a game type? There was no mention about it in the bulliten so sounds like it wont be back anytime soon.

lol perfect.
Ranking is HUGE and 343 doesnt understand.
I'm not even sure a ranking system would be worth anything the way this game matches players/joins in progress.

The fact reminds that, outside of the MLG(Halo) bubble, things are actually going very well, Halo is and has always been one of the most successful console titles.
Dang. I really liked him... This year will be the first without Chipper too since before I can remember. After the Falcons and the Braves' 2012 season I can only hope that this year will be better.Yes.
Also, Bravos traded Prado. I don't know what to feel right now.
And you posted in the Mad Men thread. HaloGAF has good taste.Does that even need to be stated?
If the ranks meant not allowing guests in that specific playlist, great. In two of the five games yesterday, I had guests ruin both. Both times had guys go 3-23 or 1-27 or something like that. But I do agree, JIP's inconsistency will end up being a problem itself as well.I'm not even sure a ranking system would be worth much to me the way this game matches players/joins in progress.
Of course they won't, that's the point. It's such an unnecessarily complex process now whereas in H3 you pushed A.Except no one will ever do this.

We have the Upton brothers now. It'll be a good year.
Danny Bulla, senior designer for Red Dead Redemption is the sandbox designer for Destiny! Dat hype!
"We were going to make this online universe where people are going to be able to sit on their couch and play games with people from the other side of the world," Butcher says. "It was going to be this great communal experience. Everybody was going to realize that we were all just one shared humanity, and look, there's gonna be an outbreak of world peace. What it actually turned into was a bunch of frat boys teabagging one another and calling each other names. So I think we can do a lot better."
Baseball sucks.
Where's HockeyHaloGAF?
