Halo |OT15| Beta-tested, GAF approved

I think the bulletin will mostly be about the web file browser( that has no rendering film options lol) and maybe about Silentium, isn't its release in a couple of weeks?
Ah, yes! I forgot, we should be seeing an audiobook release at the same time, as that was part of reason it was delayed. Maybe we'll get an excerpt.

Wow lots of infighting here, but it's good. Like Clemenza said in Godfather, these things gotta happen from time to time to weed out the bad blood lol.

But I'd like to give my thoughts if possible. Yes Kevin Franklin is lead designer for multiplayer and yes he probably did get the go ahead for infinity or whatever mode. But Halo 4 was a team release. You can't blame just one person, even if he was primarily responsible. We don't know much about the development of Halo 4, let's not jump to conclusions.

As for the skybox, that is utterly ridiculous for someone to say they are trying to play off a tragic US event. You only see what you want to see. 9/11 was the furthest thing from my mind when I see that skybox. Newsflash, most countries have major cities and skylines near the coast. In any type of war or attack, you'll see this scenario. And the event affected people differently. For all you know, they imagined it was Seattle as they were developing it. Should there never be smoke/burning buildings again because it may remind people of a tragic event 12+ years ago?

Whatever, let's not get into it too much. I wanted to get the maps, but I used whatever points I had on the xbox live games sale. Looks like I won't be playing the maps for a while then.

Similar to Call of Duty Elite, 343 is introducing a Halo Promethean subscription service that gives you:

-Access to the exclusive Team Prodown, Doubles Prodown, and Certain Infinity (DLC) playlists
-Double EXP
-The ability to render film clips
-CSR included in-game for the exclusive playlists
-Early access to very definitely important Halo Waypoint content

Order now!

Finally got a few games of Skyline CTF in, now that I've had a chance to force the vote with teammates. A couple things: Spawns are rough. Pushing into the enemy base can be a nightmare if they start spawning en masse at the top of their ramp. Also, the middle is a big problem for flag runners - if you get killed when you're entering bottom center, there's a chance your flag will clip into the extrusions behind the gravity lifts and you won't be able to grab it. There needs to be a fix for this across all the CTF variants, it's really frustrating.

Also, interesting that the variant of CTF in that playlist appears to use more announcer dialogue than the others ("Escort your carrier." where there was nothing before). It also contains a typo in its new description: "Capture and the enemy flag!" which was previously "Steal the Enemy Flag, Score Points!"

Exclusive reveal that the first page of Silentium is an apology for anyone who ended up reading Primordium?

Tip: The Xbox Live Halo sales are still up. I don't think they're taking them down until the sale is over. Microsoft is impressing.

Just throwing it out there: something tells me that the Xbox 420 won't have backwards compatability, but there will be a dedicated "legacy transfer" option that lets you migrate all your digital content, Games on Demand included, to the new console.

That would actually be a sweet deal. Better than nothing and the streaming thing Sony is doing.

Hopefully Sandbox TU news. Do we know what playlist is going to release next week? Hope it's Multi Team.

I'm looking to pick up some games to play before Next Gen hits. Wanna be on 50k gamerscore by then. I'm not bothered by the lack of backwards compatibility, my 360 will not be going anywhere.

In other words, it WOULD have backwards compatibility, but would arbitrarily only allow the functionality for digital items? Ugh. Either have it or don't. Don't give your customers the finger.

I imagine there could be difficulties in disc-based compatibility, but yeah I'd say it should prolly be fully compatible at that point.

For those who actually spent money on their avatars, that stuff should transfer too.
better with kinect™
There's going to be a Kinect in every Xbox 720 anyhow so I think that sad chapter is behind us.

Playing Skyline CTF made me realize how obnoxious the new CTF settings are.

No returning flag (aside from 15 second timer) aside, the inability to drop the flag makes capping them a pain. I find myself really missing the ability to touch the flag, drop it, and be fully combat effective. If I have a power weapon then RIP me. Not to mention the waypoint means you're not gonna get too far. No sneaky caps either. That really fun dynamic of loud/visible and fast vs slow and sneaky is gone. At first I thought this was remedied by the fact that you aren't slowed down by the flag anymore but this is not true. You are slowed down. YOU CAN'T SPRINT.

I really hope they can patch it out, but they probably can't/won't. I can only hope that Halo 5 keeps the pistol, I have no issues with that, I think its kinda cool, but there needs to be an option for dropping the flag.

And if ANYTHING is going to get fixed for Halo 4 CTF its auto pick up. The fact that you cant drop the flag is bad enough, but to make it auto pick up leads players to being frustrated they ran into the flag or a teammate died, dropping the flag onto them.

If there's a disc drive, then there's no good reason that would be an issue compared to flash or magnetic storage. If there's not, then we can have a different discussion.

Yeah, the new CTF settings are absolute garbage. They took all the fun out of the gametype.

He went beyond touching...

Ewwwwww.
Yeah, but I didn't want to be crude.

To chime in on the CTF settings, I hope the future holds the destruction of the Comitted Carrier Experience. I don't understand the logic behind the changes beyond doing it for the sake of the 343 stamp of "different than Bungie". I hope lessons were learned and we can have normal CTF again where someone isn't afraid to go for a dropped flag because they have a power weapon.

The maps seems good and I love that weapons actually spawn on them, but the pretty high weapon spawn rates combined with ordinance when playing Infinity Slayer can lead to some incredibly lop sided games.

I especially hate they left no options to change in customs games. Same for several game types. "You're going to play it our way all the time or not at all!" Why?

What's an xbox 420? I'd smoke that out of a soda can probably.

Also Booties, not sure if Waffle Recycles is your friend but I played with him in doubles yesterday and he's a good guy, and a good player. Thanks for giving me the chance to meet people who play Halo 4 often :)

Yeah I randomly met him in Team Doubles. Dude is chill, uses call outs, smokes weed, and is all around a pretty chill kid. Not a bad pick up.

We had a game on Rail where we were getting beat at the start and we both went full on sweat mode, calling out enemies, letting each other know where we were. It was a fun experience. The next game my microphone died though, but he still kept it going with the callouts and we stuck near each other and destroyed some guys on Abandon.

He's a chill guy indeed.

343, you have no idea how close you are to a great game. Take out Infinity Slayer from Majestic.

Boo. I like Infinity as a change up, and want to play the new maps. They could separate it out or something I guess.

Team Throwdown is awesome though, but I do get only Lockout or Haven it seems. We need those DLC maps in there.

BTB OBJECTIVE YUSS?!?!

Also agreed. New maps in Throwdown and Doubles. I like Infinity Rumble however. Needs less Boltshot though.

I thought maybe some people were exaggerating that the new maps were awesome, nope they are pretty awesome. Had a amazing CTF match on Skyline yesterday and its been awhile since I've enjoyed CTF.

343 just needs that sandbox TU, more close,mid-range maps like these and to quickly resolve the story issue with Halsey and then we are all good.

Infinity should belong in social playlists.

Normal Halo should be in ranked playlists.
