Halo |OT18| We're Back Baby!

Depends on how much they already did. If it's just the engine and stuff, then that's fine, but if they already started implementing stuff that people didn't like in Halo 4, they would either have to scrap them, or be lazy and just keep them in the game.

I hope they keep tac and support mods, and maybe add another one. They'd be an awesome way to add to customs, especially if you could tie them to trait zones. Sure, they aren't great in a competitive environment but they've got them in the engine now, would be a great customization option for customs in future games.

They should keep every vehicle, weapon, AA, Equipment, etc that has ever been in a Halo game, even if only for customs or a couple of playlists.

But bad gameplay mechanics, no (eg. flinch).

And no Mantises. Mantises suck. They aren't affected by physics like every other vehicle.

Oh, and I want flags to be affected by physics like in Halo 3. So fun.

Eh, I dunno about a "total recall" approach. Eventually it's going to collapse under its own weight ("Equipment causes a fatal glitch when used in combination with X armor ability on Y map with Z weapon equipped.")

Insofar as giving players greater abilities to customize the experience, I think more tools is better than more sand in the sandbox.

If they had modding support, then they could just focus on making the competitive experience good, and let people do whatever the hell they want with customs and such.

And a higher max player limit. I want some Battlefront-style customs.

And good physics.

Interesting, i did some research and apparently Halo 5 was indeed in development before Halo 4 released.

This is always the case.

The pre-production staff such as high level designers, concept artists, and anyone who does any kind of planning moves on to the next project once their job is done on the current one. We don't normally make any kind of distinction for that because it's so common. You could say in the same way that Halo Reach was in development before Halo 3 launched. We would still call Halo Reach a 3-year dev cycle.

Thus, Halo 5 will have a 2-year dev cycle.

True but you never know if they had more than usual work on the next Halo. New console so they had that in mind.

But there are also differences in team sizes, scopes and focuses (Bungie was shifting resources to Destiny, 343 now has way more people than it did even at the release of Halo 4, et al.)

Dev time really isn't a reliable indicator of quality. Halo 4 came in hot and could have benefited greatly from extra dev time--I don't think that can be disputed. But a two year dev time is nothing to freak out about from a quality standpoint in and of itself.

I certainly think a three-year dev cycle is better, because I enjoy playing through my games and having a long lifespan playing them online. But I'm not going to be concerned about the game just because it had a shorter dev time.

The more time you have is usually better. But you have to remember that this time, they are a more efficient studio. They probably cut the deadweight after launch, I know they brought in a lot of MS guys who work on DX11, I read an interview with Kiki where she said the studio ballooned to like 500-600 people working on the game.

They also have the benefit of launching on new hardware with 50 gb blu-ray discs. They'll probably continue the use of the modified Reach engine. Add in the target 1080p/60fps gameplay etc.

I have a very optimistic outlook that Halo 5 will be a much better Halo game than Halo 4.

On the topic of sky boxes on the last page I would love to see a Halo sky box of an amazing sunset. Something like this.

I did not know about this.
Operation Hydra is a new Title Update for Halo: Spartan Assault that adds five all-new missions, Xbox 360 controller support, new achievements, and more. Below we are detailing the five new achievements you can nab which can net you a total of 50 points to add to your Gamerscore! Operation Hydra will be available on August 29th.
Do we have to pay? If not, that's pretty awesome

It is pretty easy to tell they pushed the hardware more towards shinier graphics rather than more interactive, ambient, open spaces.

Hopefully this will be rectified and we can have both on the new hardware.

A brand new shiny Halo game comes out and..

..it sucks. What do the fans say?

"Hey, it was their first next gen game on new, next gen hardware. Give them a break, the next one will be a lot better. Surely they've learned from past mistakes."

The next Halo game comes out and repeats the process. Where do we draw the line?

We don't because we're all suckers.

Halo 4 was that game for me and I haven't spent a penny on it since I came to the conclusion that the game just wasn't the Halo game I wanted from them.

I'd much rather they stopped riding Halo for its name and went off and developed the space CoD they so obviously want to make. This is a business though and the name Halo gets sales so that isn't going to happen.

It's going to be pretty hard buy and play Halo 5 without an Xbox One anyway so I'm safe from falling into that cycle.

haha same, the Xbox One is the biggest barrier to getting Halo 5.

I know people that loathed Halo 4, yet they say they're getting an Xbox One at launch for Halo. Boggles my mind. I will never understand brand loyalty like that.

Who on earth green lighted Settler for matchmaking? It's the most boring DMR fest of a map I've ever played. It's literally control the ridge. That's it. Nothing else matters on this map.

I noticed the other day if you use a warthog to push the crates downhill they despawn. That makes the whole ridge line much more open. But yeah, that map is all about controlling that point

Personally while my initial response to Settler was very negative I like it a lot more now. It *is* generally a game of control the ridge, but that's not inherently bad. Since the weapon balancing the DMR doesn't pack the same punch which helps.

Remember when we had awesome skyboxes?

I do wonder if 343i will be able to match those in Reach or Halo 3 with all the extra horsepower in the X1. Of course it'll be constrained because they're going for 60fps, so I dunno. I hope they put some effort into it

To be fair, Halo 3 was when we had awesome Skyboxes and poor environment detail.

I still can't fathom how Halo 5 will be better with a 2 year dev time if Halo 4 was rushed.

A great AAA game needs 3 years to cook.

Don't worry, they'll outsource to CA again!

=/

500-600 people! That many people, and Halo 4 was the end product, oh dear...

I'm not optimistic because the biggest problems in Halo 4 are by design, not unintentional errors caused by rushing. They implemented CoD gameplay features and obliterated the skill ceiling from almost every angle possible.

I think if they did that (AAs/perks) the temptation would be too great to use them and then before you know it they would be in the core gameplay and the whole of the game would be designed around accommodating them.
