Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

Does anyone else see jackels on one of the concept art from the magazine? I'm talking about the one where you see the chief walking through an overgrown forerunner structure.

They clearly appear to be jackal shields. Of course, jackals are all sorts of scavengers; so it wouldn't really be a surprise that they are poking around some enormous forerunner superstructure.

I see dudes with colored shields. But I can't make out the rest.

I like the Jackal Shields, those annoying little enemies who aren't a threat 1-on-1 but can become a nuisance on big groups on harder difficulties, and you can't just shoot them in the face like everyone else.

We were discussing it in a party the other day, with the sheer wealth of what was revealed in the magazine and controversy surrounding it, perhaps it would have been better to initially reveal it via other means aka a vidoc?

Of course to the rational people, it won't matter because they can wait for clarification.
Exactly, even if it was sponsored by a gaming magazine or whatever, it would seem like the right approach to take. Do written articles on the returning features and what makes them unique to the new game, teasing that the larger changes to the franchise need to be seen rather than read through text.

An educated guess is that the big reason 343 didn't do this is for the simple fact that the new assets weren't ready for public consumption yet, outside of what's already been shown.

As long as they don't do it through a magazine, they should be fine.
Fuck magazines, they get their information from GAF anyway. Bungie would be smart to just release a full-fledged vidoc of their new IP here and on bnet.

It still seems weird Bungie isn't making Halo 4. And not going to their website for my stats anymore is also weird. It's like seeing MJ in a wizards jersey.

I wish Halo 4 has a Super Smash Bros Brawl Dojo thing, where they revealed something about the game every weekday. Sometimes it was just an item, sometimes it was a stage/map, sometimes it was a mode, maybe a background element or a character, or a weapon, etc. It kept people coming back to the website for new info, and we never know what was gonna happen.

That was weird at first but we got used to it. I'm already used to this new 343/Bungie/Halo situation

Has the health/shield system been clarified yet? Please no more health packs.
Oh, don't worry, there'll be plenty of health packs for you! No one will take away your precious health packs!

But seriously, it looks like they're gone from the footage shown.

HaloGAF wasn't big on Reach? I mean aside from ArmorLock I found it to be my favorite Halo MP experience by far.

Can't speak for HaloGAF obviously but for me, the maps just weren't good enough in Reach. The starter maps were forgettable, the Forge World maps are bland and overpopulate the playlists, most of the armour abilities were easily abused leading to slower and/or frustrating gameplay.

Then there's bloom which I know most people hated but I didn't mind too much.

But yeah, for me it was the maps which really let it down and stopped me investing anywhere near as much time in multiplayer as I did for Halo 2 and 3.

Get good maps 343i and Halo 4 is a done deal!

I'm hoping that H4 is just an evolution of Reach to be quite honest, and from what I've read it's looking that way.

Hopefully they just have a regular team slayer without any of the new armor abilities aside from the sprint, and I'll be good to go.

Hope they spend more time tweaking arena as well. Felt that was a bit so/so in the time I spent with Reach.
What did you like about it compared to the others?

Everyone on HaloGAF appreciated Reach's clear feedback system (I liked how clear it was but me and other still wanted melee bleed through) hitscan, godly netcode... that's about it. Those were pretty universal likes. Then it started getting messy.

You want Halo 4 to be an evolution of Reach, but want a playlist dedicated to no AAs?

EDIT:

Not that I trust youtube videos, but in the comments of the video where Jeff Steizer is talking, someone says they asked him on facebook if he was doing the Halo 4 voicing and he said no...
He probably will go in to record his stuff late in the development process.

To be honest, as much as I love his voice, having a new multiplayer announcer would be kind of exciting if done well. Perhaps a really cool synthesized/otherworldly female voice.

Reach has one horrible map: Powerhouse. The rest are okay.

Fixed. Actually, Powerhouse is okay but not spectacular.

My first thought when I started playing Reach was: I'm so glad that some of my favorite maps like Sanctuary and Ivory Tower and Blood Gulch were remade.

Then I realized all the game breaking changes made those maps no longer fun.

I seem to remember a certain zlatko coming into one of the Reach OTs with a picture of a guy holding a turd, while complaining about the Reach netcode.

My girlfriend dragged me shopping today, I managed to make the most out of it though when I discovered a shop that had a sale on aluminium flight cases!

Just the right size for an Xbox and 4 controllers, so I decided to give my Halo 3 console a more fitting retirement home. Also on the subject of Halo themed consoles, can we please get a Halo 4 version Frankie? Just shut up and take my Spartan Points already!

Just got back, it was more of a political power lunch rather than a wedding, because we sat with the next would be councillor and the mayor of south shields.

I didn't even know south shield's had a mayor. He had a nice wife.

Hobnobbing with the people of power already eh? Sounds like you're on the way to becoming a good lawyer!

I know this whole thing has been beat to death but this was a bummer for me. It seemed to me that the slow stream of info for this game started out with "Hey we are bringing back the Halo you all have wanted! BR, hitscan, movement more akin to Halo 2/3." I was super excited for the possibility of Halo returning to the type of game that I loved playing night in and night out. Now it seems more like "We might have a classic playlist but the direction we are taking the Halo franchise isn't the Halo you know." We don't know the details and maybe things will shake out differently but I feel like I got the bait and switch. Justified or not at this point that is how I feel.

How's DotA treating you?

Felt the same way about Reflection. Nades left and right. Same with Zealot, bouncing grenades off curved surfaces.

Changed my opinion of Reach maps:

Good-Powerhouse, Zealot, Asylum (or Refuge in the future, hopefully)
Not bad, but marred by weapon choice/AA abuse-Boardwalk, Reflection, Countdown
Horrible-The rest
Die in a fire and never mention ever again-The Cage, Sword Base
(Not including DLC)

No it's not, it's content complete.

The rush to power weapons is completely balanced as well. Any smart man goes for Shotgun/Conk combo instead of sword.

I go for shotgun, let one of the guys I'm playing with grab concussion rifle, then use shotgun/pistol combo til I can sprint over to a DMR.

Yes. That way I can enjoy all the new they put in, but if it ends up being unbalanced like ArmorLock was imo, then I have a playlist that is good to go in that regard.

Plus, sometimes it's fun to join a playlist that's just who is the better shooter without extra elements such as perks in CoD for example.

Asylum and Hemorrhage aren't necessarily broken because of the changes to the game mechanics, they're just awful remakes, as if someone was recreating it from memory instead of actually looking at the originals. Hemorrhage in particular should have been a full Coagulation remake instead of Blood Gulch - the added cover and better bases would have helped a lot.

Reflection, though, was totally destroyed by the jetpack. Funnily enough, they raise the ceiling on the top hallway so it would be easier to assault, but the old low ceiling made it easier to break setups by bouncing grenades. That map is one of the biggest disappointments to me. Loved the original.

A separate old school playlist only works if enough people play it to make it viable. Most of the "hardcore" playlists in Reach are hanging by a thread. Objective and Arena in particular have always done really poorly.
