Funny thing about that, the Oxbox version was MS published and had dedicated servers.
Funny you should say that because I was torn between using an image of Counter Strike or a pic of a man in a straight-jacket, frothing at the mouth in a padded room.
Anyway, being opinionated or passionate isn't a problem, but the sheer bile that is spread from people who one would assume are regular players just strikes me as completely out of whack. If what we know about the series and Halo 4 doesn't rise to the level of your very basic of expectations, I honestly think your very basic of expectations are set to "batshit".
I knew this would get mentioned It does when there's a good sense of humour about it, which there hasn't really been. Now it just seems over-dramatic heh. I'm giving up on reading anymore tonight"Hyperbole makes everything more fun"

Whats the 4 year old Ubisoft game you're referring to?My expectation is to have a map editor with the same amount of features as a 4 year old Ubisoft game.

Top two comments, lol
"Ugh 343 do this in Forge for Halo 4!"
"This beats forge"
Are there any network engineers here or people that know more about dedicated servers than just what they've heard or experienced while playing in them? I'm neither, but here my 2 cents anyway.
I'd wager that servers are not a cure-all by any means. I'd also wager that they talked about them and decided the amount of work, time, and money for their first venture as a studio just wasn't worth the possible payoff be it big or small. It'd take an extraordinary amount of work to make those systems work and work well. I'm sure they chose to focus their efforts elsewhere as they are essentially building and rebuilding this games framework and they'll reconsider it for Halo 5 when things are more established. People here act like its such a simple thing.
Do you ever post any opinions of your own, or are you content running around commenting on what other people are doing? Clearly I can't express disappointment with the direction of the game (while the game is still actively in development), and also want to try it out upon release. If you really think that way, grab your helmet and your Fisher-Price toys and head on into a padded room.
Nah, I just want a Halo game, not a Call of Duty game.
By commenting on other's opinions, I am actually strongly hinting at where my opinions lie. Let me help you out though. I am of the opinion that you are expecting what needs not be expected. You say this;
"Nah, I just want a Halo game, not a Call of Duty game."
Let's have a quick recap.
Number of Halo games on a console to release with dedis = 0.
Number of COD games to release with dedis = Most if not all.
And you say you just want a Halo game. Just Halo would imply not having dedis... ever.
But hey, that's just your opinion. I best not be content with that! My opinion is that dedis aren't needed. As I tweeted no more than an hour ago;
"Lack of dedis doesn't bother me. Halo games have yet to not improve the functionality of P2P. It can literally only get better."
There has yet to be a Halo game where the tehnological advancements in the P2P networking model have not been noticeable. I don't think anyone can really refute this. Play Halo 3 and follow it up with Reach. The difference is night and day. To use the phrase you know and love, the natural evolution in Halo 4 will be an even more optimised implementation of P2P. We've already seen glimpses of how they have squeezed better graphics from the 360.
So, for me, I have no reason to expect P2P in Halo 4 to be a bad thing. I would much prefer they used a model they have been used to dealing with for so long than to try dedis and not have the same level of optimisation or competency with it.
While I am all for hearing their design decisions (and believe me, I am) I just don't expect as much as you do. I am no more passionate about the franchise than you are. Crazy as it may seem, but I honestly enjoyed Reach a lot. I played it on my own terms and got what I wanted from it. I wouldn't be doing myself any favours to play a game I don't want to play.
Make jokes about how I want a job in game development. Poke fun at how I enjoy what we've been given thus far. Make a sarcastic comment as to how butthurt I must be. You're not insulting, you're often humourous and you're always honest.
2-3 more years of P2P. 2-3 more years of crossing your fingers for a decent connection. 2-3 more years of host migration screens.
This can't be life.
Are you just looking for attention with your head shaking gifs and melodramatic quips? Because this is number 2...just thought I'd help you out buddy.
Can someone give me a SparkNotes on this please.
I'm working on number 3 as we speak. Look out for that on your NeoGaf page soon!
Wanting dedicated servers (or any other features) isn't batshit. The way you go about expressing your desires for it is at times. Thats just how I see it.Looks like some people have their expectations set to "batshit". Shame on them.
And thanks. That is pretty damn impressive.
I linked to a Bungie podcast with Bungie's lead networking test engineer. cant get much better than that.
Can someone give me a SparkNotes on this please.
nu-uhNumber of COD games to release with dedis = Most if not all.
My expectation is to have dedicated servers, like Gears of War 3 and Battlefield 3, both of which will be a year old upon Halo 4's release. Halo is a bigger franchise than either of those.
My expectation is to have a map editor with the same amount of features as a 4 year old Ubisoft game.
My expectation is to have a matchmaking system that evenly pairs up teams for competitive matches.
My expectation is to have a game that runs at a steady framerate.
Clearly, my expectations are set to "batshit".

Pretty much how I feel.Frequent host migrations aside, Reach's MP netcode is pretty great; if Halo 4 matches or exceeds it, I don't understand the issue. I just hope Spartan Ops is a step up from Firefight in that department.
Instead, here we have casual designers, who haven't written so much as a "Hello, World" telling us why we should expect 60 fps, asynchronous AI-rich, physics-rich, networked games, massive world-wide server farms, and perfect p2p matches in the wild west that is the internet.I have no expectations for this game, that way I can never be disappointed.

A Casual gamer.
nu-uh
Hiredn00bs bitterness is much better than your average HaloGAF bitterness.Instead, here we have casual designers, who haven't written so much as a "Hello, World" telling us why we should have 60 fps, asynchronous AI-rich, physics-rich, networked games, massive world-wide server farms, and perfect p2p matches in the wild west that is the internet.
None of the console versions of the CoD games have dedis. Heck, CoD4 just boots everyone from the game the moment the host quits.I've only played MW2 for any considerate amount of time. What is the figure?

You guys are blowing this dedis shit way out of proportion. As if it's our fucking right to have them. If matching with players in our area is prioritized, there won't be a problem. I've said it before but I'll take the extra minute or 2 of searching if it means that the quality of the match is better than what it would have been if matchmaking was looser. 2 or 3 minutes is nothing compared to the the 10 minutes or so of a shitty match I have to suffer through. I'd rather wait than play on a shitty host, constantly migrating hosts which leads to weapons respawning and fucking up the timers. Not to mention the game not matching me with players of similar skill. I think the real issue is matchmaking and not the network infrastructure.

Please I've literally written an Xbox game where a picture of a wolf spins around and flashes random colors.
Note: It ran at 60fps.
But did it have dedicated servers and water? Oh and swords?
10/10Uhh it had a wolf. Your expectations shouldn't be higher than one wolf.

You're right, just not enough resources. If only they were wholly-owned by one of the largest companies in the world, a company that specialized in programming, technology, software, and networking.
The "you can't comment on something because you're not an expert" argument is always an old standard. One that if taken seriously would ban any suggestions or complaints about any topic by any human being on the face of the earth, but still a good attempt imo. Much better than the last "anti-gay" dud you chucked into the discussion.
