Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

So I went deeper into Metroid’s enemy design and the inspiration for Halo 4 seems clear.
I am happy about it. Metroid Prime and Halo were the two games which fascinated me with their enemy design. Both were the Science-fiction enemy type I always wanted to kill. They looked fearsome and still interesting.
"Promethean" (is this confirmed?) Knight is not the same as a Promethean.

Knights are mechanical whereas Prometheans were flesh and a cast of warriors. Very tall, around 4-5m, so no way it's them stuffed inside, and they would probably still have memories and will like the ones in the Sphinxes from Cryptum.
Funnily Orange Knights show their teeths whereas Blue Knights have full-on face plates.
It is confirmed that they are called Promethean Crawler/Watcher/Knight and there is a secret behind them.

Anyone see the details on ZombiU multiplayer? That sounds like a really fun version of Infection. I want to play it.

Also the game has no checkpoints and permadeath. If you die, you switch to being another survivor, and if you want your stuff back, you have to go find and kill your previous-now-a-zombie body.
Sounds amazing but at the end it is the only launch game which really uses the Wii-U controller.

Really hope the medals are changed by November. Compared to Reach's medals (OMG so sexy) they look terrible.

I must be few of the handful of people on here that actually likes it. I think it fits the style and I have generally got bored of the medal aesthetics used since Halo 2.

I feel the same way!

You were great on the podcast btw.

I just think there needs to be a little more variety in the colors. I like the bottom image there, because the medals show a little more variety. But if everything is gonna be light blue and day-glo yellow I'm not a fan.

Do you actually dislike anything Halo 4 related? :P

I don't see a reason why the colors should be changed. They are very iconic to the Halo franchise. Though it would fit with changing stuff without a good reason...

Yeah, I can agree with, especially the multi kill medals.

Not with out actually playing it, I know you voiced your concerns, but [redacted] got me very hyped last night. :p

They feels a bit too "soft" instead of the "solid" medals of Reach.

That's probably on purpose. Reach was very gritty all around, it had some grain to it, the medals were "dirty," but Halo 4's aesthetic seems very clean, and I think these medals are both an extension of that and the fact that we're inside a simulation.

Why is so much screen space wasted on player character models and instead of highlighting the map, mode and a few of it's settings? That is terrible.
First thing I noticed. 2/3rd of the screen is filled with the player's spartans. What do I care what they look like? I see hardly any gametype information, not even a picture of the map.

Also, no active roster. I touched on this in the podcast and it seems like you have to press X to see your friendslist. Seems like a step back in terms of usability. In Reach if you're in the menus you can always see how's online without pressing anything. Don't like it.

Good point. Besides that though, they don't really have much ”presence”. Hopefully it is just placeholder.

The fuck? Why would they do this?
I didn't really care about the Active Rooster before i started playing with GAF (no friends who have 360, ain't a big thing here in Finland) but now that i have used it, it MUST BE included in Halo 4. Putting it behind a buttong press is just idiotic.

TheVerge or Polygon transmutes slowly to my favorite video game site on the web. I read their hands-on with Halo 4 and it clarifies things people asked about Spartan Ops:
SPARTAN OPS: WEEKLY WARFARE
In a closed-door meeting, longtime Halo veteran Frank O'Connor likened the new Spartan Ops mode in Halo 4 to ABC's island-obsessed TV series LOST: episodic content that would create a "watercooler effect," with one "story" each week spanning five levels with 15+ minutes of content.

O'Connor promised these levels would be entirely new — not taken from the campaign, although general locales will still be familiar — and over the course of the season would be about as long as a full Halo campaign. The season will last "months — not weeks" and will launch November 6th, the same day as Halo 4, free with the standard edition.

Set six months after the events of Halo 4, there will be some spoilers — at least "one big spoiler," in fact, for the main campaign (we'll try not ruin that for you justyet). If you "miss" an episode, it'll still be available to play for the foreseeable future — good thing, since co-op or solo, Spartan Ops' campaign must be played in order.

The demo at E3 is the fifth level of the first episode, an early build with some placeholder graphics for the between-mission cutscenes. It's the same one seen in this week's new video, so feel free to live vicariously through that (continued below).

More about it here.

I really need to play the game to see how shitty the new medals look. Half of them use the same two colors. In previous Halo games they have different colors to quickly differentiate medals from each other. The design of them truly looks like shit.

I refuse to read Polygon until they steal Ludwig Kietzmann from Joystiq and complete the trifecta.

Am I the only one that gets a very Halo 2 vibe from the menu interface? everything seems very dark and, in a way, horizontally oriented. This, in turn, makes me think back to clans, and really hope for their inclusion.

Yeah, but you think everything is shitty.

Also show yourself gorramit, I want to see what you look like, you're not ginger are you?

Yes, it does need to be said, the UI in Halo 4 is absolutely awful compared to previous Halo games. It's the one area so far where I can undoubtedly say the game has taken a serious step backwards in quality. It makes the game look like some random third party sci-fi shooter, rather than the next Halo. It doesn't exude quality.

They've been referred to as "Prmethean Knight" by both Frankie and Josh Holmes:

It is confirmed that they are called Promethean Crawler/Watcher/Knight and there is a secret behind them.

Thanks for clarifying.
Still, I hope Promethean is used in the context of those AI being warrior class AIs.
I don't think it's been stated in the books if Promethans used robots in combat in addtion to their suits and Ancillas.
I love fighting robots, and the Forerunners weapons are awesome.

EXCITE by trying to recompile the different connected dots between the books and the game reveal, yet very confused and not happily so.
Cryptum spoiled me, it was exactly what I didn't know I wanted from the Halo universe.

You need to get this.
Yes, yes I do. Christmas List!

--------------------------------------------------------------

BTW- have barely been able to keep up with the thread, so I don't know if this has been talked about yet: has anyone else noticed that we're not seeing our secondary weapon in the HUD? I've watched the multiplayer vid on Waypoint about a dozen times, and don't see it anywhere.

Well screw youuuuuu, I guess that just leaves me and Krow and a blue haired ninja to play with.

Why does this game have to be exclusive :( ? With the Xbox Smart Glass, it could work.

We need Left 4 Dead 3 Valve.

I see, isn't it a hard thing to judge without having used it, or are you one of those lucky swines who have got to play?

Looks like Nintendo doesn't want to give me a Metroid game any time soon, this will do very nicely.
