Stop being rational, man, it's putting a real damper on our hysterical doom and gloom. Next thing you know, you're gonna expect us to stop looting when the sky is clearly, obviously falling all around us.

Where are you going to put all that loot when the sky is done falling, huh?! Because let me tell you something, the sky won't be a place to put it then, and that's where I put all my loot now.

Decided what the hell and popped in Halo 3 for some multi, and it's still good, slightly slower than Reach, but I enjoy that. Also, NO BLOOM. NO AAs
Regen is still stupid.
Bubble Shield is annoying to a lesser extent.

Doom and gloom in a Halo thread? Whatutakingabout.

I can't link any image right now man :(
I forgot to reply to this earlier! Are there screens of these new guns? I go to the beach for three days and a bunch of new weapons get revealed??

Hey guys,

Normally I would not go that often in off-topic here but I think some of you guys are real nerds with real nerdy friends. Or what I am trying to say the most of you guys are like me. Next week I have a 5-day trip with some class mates to Munich. The only electronic device I'll take with me is my phone. No video games on this trip. No Halo. No por... So what I am trying to say is: Anyone of you guys knows a great card/board game for 3-4 players?

And to not get to offtopic: What's the story behind Gamespot employees bashing the Halo community?

That article doesn't make sense, it has to be a misunderstanding or something.

Really...I mean..wtf man -_-

Unsettling article said:
-Halo 4 lacks a Firefight mode
-We're still waiting to hear whether the campaign will feature Skulls.
-And what of these new Assists? Well, 343 wants to foster the sort of mutual gain mentality that governs Battlefield 3, with its roster of rewards for supporting actions
-who felt they should have been rewarded for that.
-All of these things wrap up into our assist spree so you can get a Wingman spree. We found lots of ways to reward players for doing things other than kills.

ok, yeah idk what to think >.> gah

What if Spartan Ops is customizable? Just a wild idea, but in the same way you could make Firefight matches with your own set. Think about it.

I think there's a pretty big chance there will be some firefight missions in spartan ops.
You could say that Spartan Ops is more an evolution of Firefight. Same principle, wave based challenges but now with a narrative.

Seeing as customizability is one of Halo’s trademarks, it would not be surprising that we would get to thinker with those missions.

Confusing article is confusing. Two disparate concepts combined into one truncated piece.

Rest easy, calm before the calm.

In the previews SO design does not sound like "wave based challenges". More like campaign missions with more encounters which is quite a different. But they played only one SO mission.

Maybe not the overwhelming design of Spartan Ops is wave based, but it is bound to be there to some extent. It is a natural fit, like i.e. defending a section of the map till the timer runs out.

Yeah I don't understand it. Everything is moving towards choice. Record shows when you want, stream stuff when you want, make your own music playlists, etc, etc. I mean, COD is the embodiment of this, right?

Being funneled into a fixed matchmaking setting seems crazy in 2012. Playlist management has been, currently is, and will be terrible, so let people decide what they want to play. In this area (as in others) COD gets it right far better than Halo. My friends and I love playing Domination in Blops. That's all we care about playing. So, we go into the Domination playlist and play that gametype over, and over, and over, and love every second of it. There's no hoping for Dom on Jungle. There's no hoping I can start with an accurate weapon. I just choose what I want and the game spoon feeds it to me. It's fantastic.

Friend was telling me about Battlefield, described how he lists what he wants to play from a bunch of options and then plays it. Amazing. It really feels like Halo MM is in a relative stone age compared to other shooters.

For instance, a couple of days ago I had an hour before work and a friend was on. We went into Anni BTB. We like: Slayer on Ridgeline/Timberland and Headlong/Breakneck; One Flag/Bomb on the aforementioned and 2 flag on Ridgeline. What we don't like however is Elite Slayer on Breakneck (or any other map) and yet it got voted for two games in a row, both which took over ten minutes plus search times between games amounted to half an hour, half of my playtime in which I'm playing something I loath.

I NEVER want to play Elite Slayer.

I know it's a difficult problem because a great swath of players could turn around and say they never want to play the things listed that I like; there obviously has to be a level of compromise. But seriously Elite Slayer is a compromise too far, players didn't have to put up with that shit in Halo 2 or 3.

Crazy idea for Team Snipers (or maybe even FFA Snipers):

20 seconds after you spawn, a waypoint appears over your head for the enemy to see. Getting a kill (or dying) resets the timer and makes the waypoint disappear.

So if you get at least one kill every 20 seconds you don't have to worry about the waypoint. Sit still at one spot without getting kills though and you'll be at a disadvantage - freshly spawned opponents can see a waypoint above your head but you won't see one above theirs.

This is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Camping is the antithesis of skilled Team Snipers play. Every decent sniper moves around after a kill or two; it pays no dividend to stay in one spot when every player on the map has a one shot kill weapon and knows where you are if you just killed them. I don't know where Fyre got that idea from tbh. Halo 3 snipes was amazing.

pretty sure this thread is just a constant Storm before the Storm, before the Storm, before the next Storm, etc.

I'm saying you should not read too much into that particular article. It's a confusing mishmash with some factually incorrect statements.

I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised there are complaints about players being rewarded for being team players. Especially considering the mountains of complaints about the assist system in Reach not giving players proper credit for helping kill enemies.

That's not how I interpreted what the others were saying.
It was about over zealous spoon feeding of rewards and "go you!", based in the same roots as the mid-screen +10 text.

Something that encourages better team play is fantastic. Retro's shops kind of outlined more how I thought people were worried about the partial reward.
Are you talking about the example of someone getting rewarded for being an unintended distraction? Because surely you can see something ...silly about that?

I was just surprised and a little confused because I assumed that "distraction" was a non-damage assist, so a suppression assist for shooting at a player while your teammate kills him. Sounded like a decent addition. What people were perplexed by (and perhaps it's just the article as you said) that you get distractions for the opposite of what I mentioned, the opponent shooting at you.

Personally Im incredibly glad that the reward system is being revamped to reflect our play, and Im also pleased with more medals.

I know HiredNoobs gnashes his teeth at the idea, but I love that I could level up faster by winning/doing good in the game, and less emphasis on just playing a million games until fat Inheritor status

Should have added a scaled assist system based on amount of damage. Like GoW and CoD have. This yes/no system is archaic. I mean SCALED. 1-100 based on the %of damage dealt to their shields+health.

So say shields are 90 pts and health is 10 pts of damage. If you were in a 1v1 battle and lost but dropped their shields and your teammate gets the drift and finds the guy who got you and headshots him you get a +90 point assist.

Then if you were just double teaming someone and both shooting about even you'd either get the kill or a ~40-50 point assist.

If you managed to get a shot way cross map on someone your teammate was fighting but then he positioned himself behind a wall and you couldnt help further you'd be looking at a +5-20.

This way after total points are calculated you might see the 10-13 kid in that MLG game with his +950 points assist actually played pretty close to that 33-12 kid that YEA had 10 assists but it was only 100 points of assist.

Itd really move these end-game stats ahead. Evolution and such.

If you and Over and Kyle make me roll my eyes anymore, they're going to fall out of my head. THINK about what you're saying: Halo MM is in a relative stone age when compared to shooters with server lists (circa the 1990's). Reach has too low a population to do gametype-specific lists like CoD, and a server browser would either be too unwieldy with custom variations or restricted to an effective poor-man's matchmaking. Matchmaking was one of the best online innovations that Bungie introduced to the Xbox. Your complaint is bizarre, especially considering your crusade against poor skill matches.

Anyone of you guys knows a great card/board game for 3-4 players?
Asks the German! I love Settlers of Catan and Puerto Rico, both "German-style" board games made by Germans!

I'm fine with the assist changes all things considered, but the more these progression systems become the norm the less these games are about honest competition or fun as everything becomes about what nets you the most points for the least amount of work.

So if Firefight level X is the day's challenge good luck playing anything other than that level.

Its stupid as hell, but at this point its also a very lost cause to try and change it.

Yeah Battlefield gives you an assist based on damage down to the single percentage point. (I get 77 assist points if I took out 77% of his health)

A custom browser could easily live alongside matchmaking.
