Tier 1
A. Good base gameplay

Tier 2
A. Map Quality
B. Map and gametype combinations (playlist management)

Tier 3
A. Everything else (may be further broken down)

100% agree with this. Everything else falls into place if the first two are successful.

Strange way to review new weapons...
I'm guessing they're both Forerunner, just by the geometry, as they're skinned...
Thinking the Boltshot might be some kind of Forerunner Brute shot.

Yup, both Forerunner. The Boltshot was revealed in the UNSC weapons trailer with some guy shooting it in the background (seems to act like a Mauler)

They're going to go over the Forerunner weapons entirely in a few weeks I think. And it's probably more like a Mauler, and I'm pretty sure it's a secondary weapon

Slightly bigger pic of the concept art of one of the DLC maps:

I honestly have to say Im excited already because that map looks really unique.

I think we found us our Halo 4 dubstepster (is that a word?)

A certain Alvin Risk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmZMFTXZ294

Sorry if old.

Hah, cool... So, should I know who that is?

Maybe this is getting too far ahead, but I'm curious about what Halo 4's life in the wild will be like (especially if the incredible number of perks and specs need tuning) and what 343/MS's plans for the trilogy are. Microsoft has been very committed to yearly(-ish) Halo releases, so much so that I wonder what next year will bring:

  • 2007 - Halo 3
  • 2009(early) - Halo Wars
  • 2009(late) - Halo 3: ODST
  • 2010 - Halo: Reach
  • 2011 - Halo: Anniversary
  • 2012 - Halo 4
  • 2013 - ???

That's 6 years that MS has been able to count on a Halo release. I don't see them leaving that behind anytime soon. And next fall, they are conceivably going to get a new console. So I wonder if Halo 5 is coming next year or what? To their credit, MS has been very savvy about yearly games without completely exhausting the franchise like so many other games out there.

Has anyone else wondered about this or am I getting ahead of myself/being overly paranoid about annualization?

Also; maybe I can get some clarification on this

It says 4 foreground emblems, and 1 background emblem

Is this a typo are am I misinterpreting the photos from the bulletin?

I'm pretty late to reply, but I think the 4 foreground emblems are the 3 obvious emblem-looking ones plus the abbreviation for the Specialization (OP for Operator, PT for Pathfinder, etc). And then the background emblem is the black background behind the abbreviation emblems.

I hope I explained that OK...

Also, it looks like the dark grey part of the emblems are the parts you can toggle off...? Maybe?

The boltshot is a pistol, the suppressor is an AR-like rifle. The bulletin said they are all loadout weapons, so they are all either primary (BR, DMR, AR, Carbine, Supressor, Light Rifle, Storm Rifle etc.) or secondary (Pistol, Plasma Pistol, Boltshot, maybe more?)

  • 2014 - Halo 2 Remake
  • 2015 - Halo (5)

Its a legitimate question, Im not entirely certain either
The time for the next remake isnt until '14, with (5) coming in '15

I have a feeling alot will depend on the success of Halo 4 and of Spartan Ops

It doesnt appear as of now that there is a full game release that can come out in '13
Unless its a realllllly well kept secret

I highly doubt that anything Halo will come out in 2013. It's the year of the launch of their next console, see third parties and some first party (publishing and owned) stuff.

Do we need yearly releases? I'd be happy with DLC (inc. Spartan Ops) during '13

I think the fact that we'll be seeing the next Xbox gives Microsoft reason enough to push something Halo related. It's an easy way to cash in on the craziness that ensues with the launch of a new console.

I can't believe I'd have to be okay with a two year break. *angry sweary noises*

Has Wu given his opinion on Specialisations? Now that he's back I mean.

The suppressor appears to be the same weapon that was dubbed the Promethean Repeater circa E3, the Knights had them in Spartan Ops.

Hopefully the Suppressor will act like the Halo 1 Plasma Rifle and have stun, that way it can be a pickup and/or an Ordnance Drop. I'd rather have that than another automatic that no one is going to use as their primary.

My thoughts exactly. I'm dreaming of a Halo Wars 2 or an Arbiter side story like ODST - something refreshing/unique to keep us between huge Halo releases because as we all know, Halo 2 Anniversary is coming 2014 ;]

True, but I highly, highly doubt a major Halo title will be a launch title. I could see maybe something like Halo 2 Anniversary (I hope not) as a Halo launch title for the next generation Xbox, but I highly, highly doubt Halo 5 will make an appearance.

Sure, but do they have time for it? Assuming 343 is solely focused on Halo 4 right now like they say they are, a single year seems like a fairly small amount of time to develop a game for new hardware.

Im not necessarily advocating for a Halo 2 remake

Honestly even though I love the game to pieces it is a broken game, and Im not sure how comfortable Microsoft would be with publishing a game as (unpolished) as Halo 2 in an era of next-next gen consoles

But there would be fan demand for it, it could give a good excuse for a MP map pack for Halo 4, and for those of us who actually do take of the rose-tinted glasses, it could be a fun journey back to an amazing storyline/questionable bits and pieces

personally I just wouldnt want to unleash Halo 2 Legendary on another generation of gamers either

THE MULTIPLAYER WILL NEVER BE REMADE

halo 2 nostalgia is the worst

Oh I don't expect Halo 5 by any means, I'm a firm believer that we'll have at least a 2 year gap between major releases. I'm thinking more along the lines of either Halo Wars or ODST. I just can't imagine Microsoft launching a new system without being accompanied by something with the Halo brand at this point.

On the discussion of yearly releases, I don't think Halo will be overly saturated because a year is a long ass time.. Just as long as each game is very different between sequential Halo games (ie: Halo 4 comes out in 2012, Halo 5 comes out in 2014/2015, but inbetween we get some unique Halo experiences that either aren't as grand (ODST) or aren't fps games (Halo Wars))

Just watched the Halo Wars cutscenes and the soundtrack is really nice. Perfect line between Halo chants and sampling and other elements.

Nice addition to the lore visualizes Harvest, a location referenced only in additional media.
I still wanna know what's become of the Spirit of Fire and it's crew. Really want a Halo Wars 2. Windows 8 perhaps? At least give me a Spartan Ops season with some cameo or reference.

Edit: Oh hai ^^^^

Hypertrooper just started choking somewhere.

I missed the reactions, did people like the song? I'm not a fan. And I enjoy dubstep more than most people I know

It's not really that much dubstep-y to me, it's more of a heavy electric dance feel without the hardcore wub wub. It's not my favorite genre, but it's not bad. Fits the sound of Halo 4 thus far.

However, no one will top Breaking Benjamin.

No one.

Assuming that Sony doesn't launch a console next year, MS doesn't need any specific Xbox exclusive to launch with the system.

Possible big launch titles include Call of Duty 2013, Battlefield 4, and Bungie's new game.

Call of Duty and Battlefield will probably sell more than a Halo title would as a launch title next year. Hell if Bungie's game hits the Infinity/720 and BF4 is there with 64 player support, I'll buy the new Xbox on day one.

In terms of atmosphere, ODST is still my favorite Halo game. Feeling underpowered and out gunned at all times brought a whole new take to the Halo series that I absolutely loved. Not to mention the amazing music.

Now a small reasonably priced downloadable single player/coop experience? That sounds great.

Bahaha

Yea it was posted. I love the song. I don't even like Dubstep. This shit is a crazy dance song. I'm totally gonna make a montage for the song when I get my hands on the mp3.

I completely forgot about Destiny or whatever it is they're calling it. I remember reading in that court case with the guys from Infinity Ward and Activision that the Bungie game is going to be released first on Xbox.

Those games do bring a solid argument against my speculation though. E3 2013 can't get here soon enough.
