Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Aren't they supposed to honor it if they state explicitly the original price and discounted price? With a slash through it and everything?

Well I'm not 100% sure how this works in the US, but generally a store will just cancel your order or send you an email asking if you either want to cancel your order or pay the correct price.

Holy shit.

Maybe the price is deliberate for the first day of preorders?? amazon operates on magic afterall

Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.

Anyways, Here it is again: BUNGIE Podcast Intro Song
Very good. PRUSH! :lol

By the end of next week we should compile in a post all the halogaf intros.

The death animation of that dude on the right is fucking epic.

It pains me to stop using my awesome untextured convoy but if someone made an gif/avatar of the Spartan using armour lock to survive a rocket blast I think I'd have to.

doping to the knees? halo2 had that bro

He doesn't just drop to his knees, he gets thrown forward a bit by the explosion. If it were any of the other games he'd probably just fly forward or crumple to the ground in a heap.

I am more impressed by how the guns on the ground react. Looks great.
Seriously. That one pistol bumping and then overlaping the other.. :O

Or the way the fall on knees dude's DMR hits the floor... mindblowing gif, so much detail.

Holyshit clicking on the legendary edition at amazon takes you to the regular one... uhoh... it has begun

I don't think it has to do with video quality, it's definitely not the same water, very static.

You're right, it isn't the same as Halo 3. More investigation would be needed, but I don't remember the water being as physics based as in Halo 3.

Anyone in a jetpack gliding up slowly is a sitting duck. I'm guessing the DMR would drop him almost as fast, not to mention the sniper rifle. I think the correct course of action if you start taking fire while airborn is to drop like a rock, not glide slowly upward. :lol

Indeed, flying is fun for the player and the enemies. More targets! Dropping down would be a smart choice, but remember to take the fall damage into account. I liked the new landing animations in Reach. People falling from high clearly crouch down for a moment before starting to move again.

So, LTTP on actually watching the ViDoc, but:

HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE

-Assassinations are so good
-Luke Timmons&Lukems=awesome :lol "You're just sitting there juggling fucking plates...aaaaaah"
-DMR and Pistol look really good, Needler Rifle looks like Halo 3 Beta Carbine, but even better (NO SAGER, SAGER NO NERFING)

Totally sounds like I'm kissing ass, but, seriously. HYPE.

Yeah just like the lightning gun in Quake :lol

Oh wait, that wasnt a noob weapon at all. The video makes it look easy because he's aiming at an immobile jetpacker. Try keeping the beam on a sprinting Spartan or a diving Elite, or even just a player smart enough to use the terrain as cover, and you'll probably find it a lot more difficult to chew through people.

This is going to be my sniping weapon of choice :D

Preordered the Legendary Edition at the local Gamestop earlier. Kind of sad I missed out on that Amazon slip up. If they do end up honoring that, I'm going to hate you guys so much... :lol

ViDoc was incredible.

I loved seeing them playing Stockpile on Sword Base and dropping the flag down to the next level, I really think that Stockpile is going to be amazing. So excited. :D

Meh, I'm not so sure Stockpile is going to be very fun. Generator defense is what I'm looking forward to.

Looks to me like those who got in on the amazon deal are in the clear.

Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

So, to reiterate, we ordered it on 4/22/10. We are guaranteed the lowest price between today, and the day it launches. Today's price was 59.99. When it gets put back up, the price will likely be 149.99. Congratulations.

I think Stockpile looks nuts. Its like a mix of KOTH and Capture the flag. What dont you like about the idea?

We're all hoping you're right. In any case, I'll still be ordering a sku from GameStop. I must have my Reach fix at midnight and not an hour later.

:D
(Hopefully it arrives on launch day. Don't want to have to reserve a copy at Gamestop as a backup and have to wait a few days before the Legendary Edition..)

I think Stockpile will be very fun with a good organized team (HaloGAF) but I can see it being pretty horrible with randoms.

Generator defense looks like a lot of fun but ultimately I think I will just opt to play Invasion instead. :/

I dunno. It just seems to be trying too hard to make a new gametype by blending together, like you said, KOTH and CTF. Who knows; maybe it will be good. Won't know until we get our hands on it though. Until then I'm pretty skeptical of it.

In theory you're right but not too long ago they made a simialr mistake with The Old Republic by listing it for £10. They sent out emails saying they wouldn't be able to honour that price about a week later.

Yeah, but if its an obvious mistake like that then they totally have the right to take it back. You might get a small gift card for your trouble or something. But nothing worth $90.

I don't it will have much KOTH to it.

I was talking Coco and Dani about it and I said it sounds like a cooler version of classic CTF.

You have that same level of tension of having each others flags and having the opportunity go after them for it. I think its gonna be awesome :D

also it states:
If an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation.

If they come at us with this, it can be fought because they initially listed the price as 149.99 (its correct price) and then displayed a discount. Had they listed it as 59.99 flat, with no discount, then they could stand on the grounds that it was a pricing error.

It's like KOTH because you have to defend a certain area for a certain amount of time. It's similar in that way.

The item doesn't exist any more on their site, though.

You bought item code 'B002I0HCVK'... search for that on Amazon now...

Understandable, the only problem that I really see with it is that it could just be too hectic
, a bit of a clusterfuck
and really take away from the team aspect of the game.

I know Bungie is labeling it as a "Party" game but it is hard to pull that off when it is very team oriented (unlock Headhunter which can be played solo).

Yes, but I have it in my order history as stated by the user above, as well as an email confirmation that explicitly states "Halo Reach Legendary Edition".

Jesus fucking christ, this thread started yesterday and there are 1500 replies?! Oh man, definately sitting out on the catching up on recent news part. Anything significant in the past 24 hours? Or is there a good ViDoc analysis somewhere?

Exactly. Sometime it's better to be simple rather than complicated. And this is probably why it's a "Party" game.

Got a new ViDoc today. Bungie.net

Conceptually, I'm digging the push-pull mechanic. Instead of straight up attack and defense, there's three dynamics at play: gather flags, defend your stockpile, and spoil the other team's by tossing them out of the stockpile. Personally, I can see myself playing spoiler a lot, playing raider as often as possible.

I don't see the KotH comparison much, as you don't need to secure the location, just the object - which you can do by controlling your end of the map, not huddling in a zone. In that aspect it has more to do with regular CTF, just with delayed scoring and the added possibility that your score can be thwarted.

Headhunter is what sounds like a clusterfuck, but it looks like one in the best sense of the term. :lol
