Earth is the anglo-English name for the planet but Terra is the Latin name and it's also used by several European languages.

Besides, if you are from Mars, you are a Martian. Neptune, Neptunian. Earth? Earthican? (Hi Bender!) Someone from Earth would be called a Terran. It just sounds better, even though Terra itself wouldn't be commonly used in English.

I don't deny it sounds better, but language doesn't necessarily go the most aesthetically-pleasing way. The most likely probably would be Earthling, simply because it's what most people would know from scifi.

The argument that our concepts of "race" in the future will be redefined falls apart when you realize that NPCs in these games have easily-identifiable accents from current-day countries. Australian, Mexican, American, you name it.

Yeah. You can try and explain that by saying that accents are a local thing, and so if a community up and relocates somewhere entirely different, they'll still speak the same, but it's a bit of a hole. Fifty years ago, accents were different. Let's call it a helpful translation and leave it at that.

Language is in a constant flux so you can never be certain how it will change. Well in the Halo universe, American-English seems to have remained almost completely preserved over centuries...

Back to this for a moment. What were they all called in ILB? I remember Colonials being used to refer to citizens of Coral and other places. This also tracks with many of the Alien(s) references intertwined in the Halo lore. Space colonies are futuristic as hell, yo. Surely we'll have them in 500 years and beyond, hopefully along with my flying car and a robot to fold my laundry.
