Halo: Reach |OT4| This Thread is Not Your Grave, But You Are Welcome In It

You should stick it out. I hear some people like guys who do so.
Hahahaha! So good.

To all five guys who showed up, I had fun with Halo 3. I guess I should schedule it for Saturdays before Dani's customs. It'd be a nice warm-up for the main event.

I've been caught! lol. Getting back online now.

Played around for a bit in BTB and the new stuff I got to try out was fun. People were voting for stuff like spire 1 bomb and such but at least I won't have to play headhunter on hemorrhage anymore.

Anyways, when disarming in BTB, does it matter how many people are trying to disarm? I went to disarm a bomb when the counter was at 6 and I'm pretty sure I had another guy around. That wasn't enough apparently.

Team Classic is amazing now. It really brings back memories:

*Plants bomb on Warlock and hide on the front edge of the base as it goes off.*

The 3x OS is great (OS is worth picking up/timing!)
1x frag cuts down on grenade deaths
The updated midship is amazing

I'm hoping for one flag on Lockout and Neutral flag on Warlock in the next update.

I miss old Halo 3 custom nights, tonight brought back some fond memories (disregard the bad sniping at the end I'm still used to Reach's).
As much as I think H3 is inferior to Halo 2 and Halo: Reach- The Halo 3 Gaf Customs were so much fun. So many double bubbles and other shenanigans were had. God I wish H2 could be played on Live again, you don't know what you got till it's gone.

Just won the university Halo tournament; more teams turned out that I guessed. Got smacked pretty hard in FFA but 4v4 worked out great. Feels good man!

Very true. I would have played H3 customs tonight, but I was at the Thunder/ Grizzlies game watching Nick Collison reduce Zac Randolph into a non-factor. So good.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but

"This event commemorates ten incredible years of Halo, looking back at the amazing stories that forged a diverse community and redefined gaming for two entire console generations. Join us August 26th-28th, at the Washington State Convention Center, and see why the last ten years of Halo were just the beginning."

Doesn't that pretty much confirm a new title of some kind at PAX? (likely to be unveiled at E3 I'm sure)
Reach: ODST: Recon : Superintendus Dotus

Find out what the ODSTs were doing when it all went down on Reach.

All new Firefaction war-making, clans, dedicated servers, 5 maps, 2 are variations of the same map. Bungies final (for real this time) send off. Believe.

Played 10 matches in the DLC playlist yesterday, only once was Condemned voted for, and only then because the Highlands choices were objectives. Does no one like that map?

Speaking of Halo 2, the PC version is plagued with nothing but terrible gametypes on servers. As much as I've always advocated a server browser, kind of makes me wish they would have put a standard matchmaking set up in there.

I completely agree with this post. The things people play on the PC version of Halo 2 just makes me hang my head in sadness.

Some rendered Halo3 clips:

As much as I don't like the pistol in Halo3, I do prefer it over the pistol in Reach because of bloom. I at least feel like I'm in control of what I'm doing.

It's been fun looking and seeing what I have saved in my file share from Halo3. This one I like simply because of the physics getting a little tweaked and the sound of the elite when he dies. http://www.bungie.net/Online/Halo3UserContentDetails.aspx?h3fileid=18765630&rfilm=122383105

I remember this one making me laugh because the other team ran right by me in their haste to get the sniper rifle.

Okay last one I promise. Warthog in the base? No problem. I have a gravity lift! Going up.

I like how the flag guy just dips out.

And speaking of halo 3 clips, these are probably my favorite clips of halo 3:

I like Condemned, it has some great places for DMR battles but I hate the zero-G part of the map. When you enter, you can just trow everything you know about Halo overboard and pray you'll survive. Even with the absence of the shield-doors, you can still camp in it and the jums/ramps feel clumsy and unpractical to use.

Seems to me like no one likes objectives...

Sadly :(

what is even more sad is more people are playing the pirated version.

It would be nice if the AR's bloom expanded and retracted more rapidly to encourage burst fire. Each round being more powerful but full-auto fire being less viable.
I really wish the AR was more unwieldy to use when the trigger was held down. Probably the only weapon in the sandbox that I wish had recoil instead of bloom*.

Halo 2 Xbox today?
People on H2V constantly say that there are a lot of people on the pirated version.

Also sure, around 2 or 4 EST

Man, Squad Slayer is a huge cluster of a mess most games due to the AA's in it. 10 people is already questionable for a map like Reflection, but throw in Jetpacks and you just completely remove any idea of map control, ugh. Shoulda been Hologram/Sprint only, I really despise camo as well.

Fingers crossed that 343's Playlist Managers will be working on map-specific gametypes. If manpower is a problem, I know a couple of guys who'd love to help out.

The lack of Armour Lock and Evade pretty much ensures folks will flock to the jetpack for cheap tricks.

The amount of jetpack whoring on Reflection and Asylum last night was sickening. Both of those maps were never designed for the jetpack and it shows really badly.

Is the Defiant map pack worth the ten bucks if you're never going to play the Firefight map?

Depends on how often you play matchmaking. The two traditional maps are some of Reach's best, for sure. Highlands is an instant classic and Condemned is very solid - I think it plays much better than the other space station map, Anchor 9.

The skyboxes in both maps are sublime and if you like Halo fiction, both maps feature some pleasing nods.

I say no, but I don't even think it's worth 10 bucks if you play FF. Condemned is a pretty terrible map, and Highlands really shines only in 8v8, which is hard to come by atm, since the playlist is 6v6.

Seriously, next map pack needs to be small maps, no FF maps, thanks. :P

Also, how hard is it to implement a proper version of Sanctuary in regular MM? Asylum is a terrible remake, I'm tired of respawning at the sniper spawn and getting sniped .5 seconds after that because the sniper has a clear pathway to look down. Use the MLG one, or one of the other countless remakes that do it better than Asylum. Throw in camo snipers and you have a pretty frustrating experience for me 99% of the time on there.

edit: How is Condemned a solid map? Pretty much every match I've ever played on it revolves around people fighting in the middle constantly in low g, which is the dumbest thing ever introduced to Halo. A9 gives you the double whammy with shield doors and low g, but at least it's a decent small size map, which the game really lacks.

Deaths:

You could cut off over half of the map and I don't think anyone would notice.

Yup. I played a team of 5 obnoxious jetpackers on Powerhouse yesterday, probably the most annoying team ever. It's just too many people on these small maps.

I've said it here before, but I am a strong advocate for single-AA gametypes.

For example you'd have the option to vote for:
- Sprint Slayer on Powerhouse
- Jetpack Slayer on Powerhouse
- Armor Lock Rockets on Zealot

I like what Armor Abilities bring to Reach, giving Halo a fresh gameplay element. I just miss the even playing field that has been a staple of the Halo series for so long. I don't want to win/lose encounters because of a choice I made all the way back at spawn.

I'm sorry but if the biggest problems happen to be too many players on small maps, wrong weapons for the map size, and griefable AA's on certain game types then how does this make any sense? Getting out voted for a game of evade slayer on uncaged would make my head split open.

I'm not normally interested in the picture competition each week on Bnet and I especially loathe jetpacks, the subject of the competition this week. But, after playing through Exodus multiple times with the weekly LASO run, this came to mind.

that is a GREAT idea - however, i'd add that sprint slayer be waited more heavily then the rest and treated almost as a default gametype.

I think the playlist's main problem is the big party restrictions. I don't play Reach for hard-hitting competitive matchups, I play to shit on unorganized teams of randoms and guests. Once you start facing teams of 5 you're gunna run into a lot of jetpacks, camo, and a level of team coordination that really brings out why Reach is such a bad game.

Bring back evade to give pedestrians something they can be proud to call their own. With 5 people to shoot at on small maps, you best believe, old man Ramirez, that I will continue using jetpacks.

Single AA gametypes sound rather good I must say. The problem as is comes from the fact that most maps are broken by at least one of the AAs on offer. See asylum with evade. I would even say two abilities would work.

Ultimately, can Bungie adopt map specific rules? I am sure they could. Just have a gametype called Team Slayer - Ref for jetpackless action on Reflection and make sure it only appears with the correct map. Heck, you could probably just group a load of similar maps together and use a Small variant or something.

Good luck getting Bungie to do that though :p

If Jetpack users could only use the pistol while Jetpacking they would absolutely not be a problem.

I like Defiant more so than Noble. Temptest and Anchor 9 are pretty great though. Still haven't played the FF map at all in Defiant. Next map pack need to stop with the gimmicks like reduced gravity. I'm sure they're already planning some crap like that just to tie it into the fiction. Train on terminal was alright. Center room on Condemned sucks. What makes it even worse is that the framerate will often go to shit in that area. Seriously, if you play those maps before releasing them and you see the framerate just drop like that then really consider making changes before gamers get their hands on them. When it comes to stuff like Forgeworld and crazy skyboxes I just feel that they've been spending way too much effort trying to come up with crazy looking shit that ties into the Halo fiction rather than taking into account how the game runs. Why is Forgeworld some huge ass area that you don't even play on while in a game is something I will never understand.

Next map pack needs to focus on mid sized maps. I have a feeling they're going to do Invasion again or throw something stupid in there like some ridiculous Griffball court with like some space battle going on over the players' heads... Something stupid like that.

Of course. I tend to use sprint exclusively anyways.

The sad reality is that this will never happen. If Bungie implemented a change like this I'm pretty sure Optimatch would burst into flames.

Ideally, Reach would have been released with the standard Slayer/Objective gametypes being sprint only. Snipers? Sprint only. CTF? Sprint only. The Team Slayer playlist would also include a few specialty gametypes, each with a single AA, such as Jetpack Slayer, Hologram Slayer, Armor Lock Slayer, etc. Then Bungie eventually "patches" in a Slayer variant where you can select which AA you want before you spawn. This is included in matchmaking, but the weighting still favors the single-AA variants (and of those favors sprint-only variants).

But that's just how I personally enjoy Halo. Obviously Bungie tries to consider what would be the most fun for the most people (as well as what will help keep the series fresh and drive sales at launch). It isn't Halo: Sprint, it's Halo: Reach. I'm just happy I now have playlists I can go to if I want to avoid Armor Lock or Evade. I just wish Jetpack was also limited to allow better map design and flow.
