Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Figures as spontaneous may not sound like much, but literally means that the screen is completely filled with the action. We saw a lame but totally senseless sequence with a whole horde Warthog who pulled out with the Hornets and met with an equally huge army of Covenant vehicles (think huge Halo Wars, conflicts, you who played it). Which led to a completely senseless battle in which blasted Banshees crashed straight into the running Warthog with an insane metal massacre as a result, and many other things that are far away from it a bit leisurely pace we have become used to the Halo games.

I think the underlined part is supposed to say "AWESOME" :lol

Am I the only one that thinks the graphics have barely improved based on these screens?

While they are not a massive improvement over Halo 3, you have remember this is pre-alpha. It's still a pretty significant change from H3 and if this is only pre-alpha then it shows great promise for the final build.

The new AR looks fantastic, and judging by the reticule, it looks like it's accuracy has been increased (the reticule is similar to the BR's).

Edit - Also, I agree with Domino's, the new FOV is sweet.

The marines look fantastic, and the shotgun looks completely badass. I want it!

The well versed Halo player quickly identifies the Jackals with their shields, recognises the the cruel forceful Grunts, but may find it difficult to identify the new jumping enemies. The Spartans in Halo Reach cannot (identify them).

This is before Halo : Wombat Evolved and the Covenant is still a distant enemy from space bringing with it disgust and horror. This is brought to the attention of Commander Carter when he bends down over one of corpses after the battle, noting that it is indeed not a few people (humans or maybe this is implying that Carter is discovering the Skirmisher species for the first time?) but the Covenant.

Urgh. Hard to fully translate using broken English.

...noting that it is actually not humans you have defeated, but the Covenant.

The word lame from your quote is translated wrong, the original text says incomplete.

Did anyone else notice the redesigned sword?

These screens look great. A few things I noticed.

-shotty looks quite a bit different
-graphics are a lot better, especially in the shot that's first person view
-levels look a lot more like Halo CE than Halo 2 and 3
-skirmishers are very ugly
-the AR looks better than in Halo 3
-the last thing is what the heck is up with the reticule in the first person shot?

That's concept art - I wouldn't count on it being in the game. (I wouldn't assume it's NOT, either - just don't get your hopes up.)
Edit: beaten by Frenck. :)

Lighting is a lot better than Halo 3.
:lol I know. I was being sarcastic. These screens are head and shoulders above Halo 3, imo.

Like the old batch, the new shots look significantly better if you tweak the brightness/contrast.

I think the lack of foliage is what makes the game look Halo 3-ish. If the levels featured the same amount of grass that was present in the teaser, I doubt anybody would say it looks bad.

As far as the reticule is concerned, it's probably just a bug. The first thing that came to mind, though, was that the game might feature Operation Flashpoint-ish turning, in that the person is able to look around, and the body follows the movement with a slight delay. This allows for looking around without altering the path of movement.

I hope so, someone mentioned Natal, and I don't want any of that in Halo.
:lol There is no doubt in my mind (and it should be the same for everyone else) that Natal will not be used in Reach to any noteworthy degree.

I've updated the OP again. I pity someone walking into this thread and trying to figure out what's going on. Will be worse now that we know that tomorrow/today 25/01/10 is the ending of the media embargo, so I think we can expect more new sources of Reach information to reveal themselves.

The OP will stay updated in case anyone misses anything.

That's creepy. Really damn creepy. What is it with Spider-Man actors and terrible faces? Ugh.

I wonder what Eric and the others are doing right now. Pouring over our impressions maybe?

Google translate? There's been a few links posted to read it in broken English if you want. A full translation is hardly needed. And those pictures speak for themselves pretty well. :D

They already do- the plasma pistol. They just decided that it would be impossible to kill with it now.

nah i mean like a plasma sub machine gun. plasma pistol should do more damage than halo 3, but it should be minimal. just return the plasma rifle to its former glory and make a new gun for dual wielding purposes

Man I am so happy they are bringing back the big dirty explosions and excessive smoke and sparks of the first Halo. It's what I miss most.

Oh and Elites :D

I was considering the folks that may be browsing via their phones like I often do, but you're right. I also hadn't considered that we'll be seeing English-language articles in another 12 hours or so.

If you look real close (I mean real close, I had to look at it for a while, but it's there) You can see ...
proof being look very closely at the top right of this picture

Gameplay pic

there are 28 shots in the clip, and the number 600 is faded out to the right of the AR

also if you look very closely you can see the pistol above with 50 rounds of ammunition

Hmmm.... what is this?

I think the game looks great as it is, and I don't get some of the hate, but that could rapidly change if it's still a Halo 3-like jaggy mess in our TVs. We're gonna need clarification pronto on if that is still an issue. The fact that all the mags and mr urkle have talked in detail about all types of improvements of technical aspects, but nothing on aliasing (Halo 3's biggest and most obvious visual flaw), has me worried.

edit- Some of these pics are truly amazing visually, I mean besides technically, very beautiful artistically too.

edit2- shame they still didn't fix the bullet tracers not leaving from the actual gun, but still from in front of your face.

And Dax and Omlet, you guys really think the FOV is fixed?? That would be really good news. I can't see if it sucks from that one pic, I can only tell when I'm actually playing.

speaking strictly about art style, to me these three screenshots look really stunning.

in the rest, the colors clash alot, and while the lighting might be technically impressive, it just seems overdone to me, and both make the environment look pretty bland imo

Well these shots are absolutely awesome. I'm super hyped for any information, and I can't wait for the beta.

As muscle said, this is a pre-alpha build from before Thanksgiving, and already the environments look beautiful, the lighting is awesome, and the detail on the character models is extensive. This looks to be leagues beyond Halo 3.

It's been mentioned, but those give off such a Truth and Reconciliation vibe. Played the level yesterday, and I would certainly welcome a throwback to the mission. Plus, it is aesthetically cool.

I don't think the lighting looks overdone. In fact, I'm not quite sure how you could overdo lighting. Doesn't it just approach a more realistic model of light? And the closer we get to that, the better the lighting looks.
I don't really see clashing colors in the others. Sure, the Spartans are different colors, but other than that everything seems to mesh perfectly.

Nothing of note. That's a common practice when developing games. During the E3 2004 Multiplayer demo of Halo 2, Joe Staten's BR had over 300 bullets. When testing out weapons in an area you don't want to have to worry about having enough ammo for it.

So, I'm guessing the little lightning bolt icon in the lower left, above the radar, is the armor ability. Previously I'd assumed the blurred out portion of the HUD was to not show an armor ability that hadn't been announced. So maybe there's another ability or such that hasn't been talked about yet.

But it's location is odd; next to the other icon would make more sense. It's almost as if the HUD is displaying information on that enemy.

I just assumed it was a NSMB:Wii-esque "demo-play" mode that enables the player, given they're using the AR, to press a button and have the game take over aiming and meleeing. You can tell because the reticle is no where near the direction the computer is firing. Of course they'll be balancing it by having a cooldown.

Just noticed it was updated and I greatly appreciate it. I am having a bit of trouble understanding the flow of the HALOGaf Reaction Chart though.

What you can't see is there's actually two reticules - one hidden by the muzzle flash. The AR fires in two directions at once.

But seriously, that's a weird placement. :lol

Love the new pictures. I really wish we had mre first person shots. Some of these pictures look really nice. Im loving the new marine, and sme of those back drops look great. And wow @ the concept art. Cant wait to see more.

Attempting to read the translated article now.. Its um.. well a fun read. :lol

I'm assuming most sites will have the same screens, but hey who knows. I want to see some of these new sexy explosions in action.

Btw, I managed to get a few Sgt. Johnson codes for ODST so if anyone still needs a Johnson to play with just let me know.
