Yo tashi that is cool and ima let you finish, but I do not like the faster movement present in MLG, it throws my aiming off that I have been accustomed to for thousands of games.

:lol

Is that true? You don't like the run speed because it throws your aiming off?
WHAT A NOOB :p

By game, I thought you meant "multiplayer game." But, again, your reasoning is flawed, because you put forth a situation that is highly unlikely and cherry-picked. Here's another reason why: As I said earlier, we don't even know if a TS game in Reach will be like its counterparts from the previous three games, so it's a moot point until we have more information.
Unlikely? Cherry-picked? It may not happen every time you play a Halo 3 multiplayer match but it does occur often in Halo 1 and Halo 2; two games you apparently have very little multiplayer experience with. And while spawn camping doesn't happen as often in Halo 3, being outmatched because your opponent is wielding a BR and all you have is an AR does.

Mark my words, Halo: Reach will not be a class-based game. It will be more of the same. Bungie is already implicating that with their general approach to Reach: make everything better, implement minor changes. But I'm going to stop here because arguing with you is just as pointless speaking to a dog and waiting for the dog to talk back.

Whenever you killed someone a quick little chime would go off indicating that the person was in fact dead. Not only did it grow to be a rewarding sound but more importantly it let the player know very clearly that they killed the person and they could move on with their life.

Always thought it was rather obvious (and rewarding) when one kill someone in Halo. And the possible "unknowns" behind a cloud of smoke is only enhancing the experience. Let Halo be Halo and implement features that suits it.

Who is EvilOtto at Bungie? I forget.
And i'm going to need more than that. If a Bungie employee can message somebody that it was an error, certainly Urk, Shishka, or Luke could post it up on GAF. Unless EvilOtto wasn't supposed to say that.

Evil Otto is Dave Candland, the Lead UI Designer.

And urk said he WOULD explain it, in tomorrow's update.

(Curse those 500 errors, letting BlueBlur post before me! :lol )

I have over 5,000 games in Halo 2. The AR is a better starting weapon than the SMG, and the AR + pistol combination is a better starting set than the AR alone. Now, Bungie seems to be going one step further and improving the AR + pistol combo by adding a zoom to the pistol.

And while spawn camping doesn't happen as often in Halo 3, being outmatched because your opponent is wielding a BR and all you have is an AR does.
I can apply the same reasoning to push Bungie for spartan laser starts. I've been spawned killed plenty of times by a spartan laser over the course of the three years Halo 3 has been out. For example, I would spawn on Standoff with a BR then five seconds later I'm pulverized by someone all the way on the other side of the map.

Funny thing is, this all resulted from me saying that an AR with a pistol + zoom is better than the AR + pistol combo in Halo 3, not that an AR with a pistol + zoom is better or a substitute for DMR/NR starts. Yet, somehow, even though I've pointed this out clearly before, it's ignored and others go on to post like I've said something I haven't.

Wait. So the targeting reticule isn't going to be on the far left hand side of the screen? WTF?

Oh crap, that would have been so refreshing and innovative.

Stale old Halo formula = confirmed

Probably improve your aim. I've seen you in action during FireFight. :lol

Just kidding Wu. They didn't give you a "PRO" tag for nothing other than your good looks.

Anyone other than me thinking the DMR will be essentially the rifle from Shadowrun? Seems almost inevitable since Beardy McBearderson worked for FASA. Although I do find some solace knowing that previous FASA employees found work after Shadowrun killed their studio.

Anything else about the latest info got you perplexed? I'll probably feel like answering a couple of questions on Friday if you got 'em. Got this particular one covered already. :)
Question: Will the final image quality be anywhere near the one portrayed in those screens? (AA wise) And field of view clarification, plzkthxgudnite.

Not my image, it's making it's rounds on b.net with no comment from urk or anyone. So who knows, I should probably know better than trust anything that comes from that hive of scum and villany.

I thought "Avoid this Player" was supposed to not put me in games with that player.

Not team me up with him 3 times in a row :lol

XBL UI doesn't translate over to Halo UI. Sucks. I wish I could permanently ditch quitters.

Really thought that after H2 and the jump to the 360 with the UI to neg feedback quitters we'd have it.

Sorry for the missed opportunity guys.

When H2O Camper (Puptastrophy) from GrifballHUB asked me if i had any files for the second week of their Bungie Favorites feature i sent him Crackle and Conquest. I didn't want to seem pushy by giving him 5 maps and told him i had more if he needed them. I had planned to then send him Leapfrog Alpha, one of the Hallway maps, and a few others from GAF Customs Night. He never got back to me and instead the remaining maps were (randomly?) pulled from my file share.

Has HaloGAF been featured in Bungie Favorites yet? If not you should be more prepared than GrifballHUB was with their feature. They didn't even mention that they are asking for DXP highlight submissions for their monthly highlight reel:

Yes but I don't think its accuracy will depend on the movement of the play but just the rate of fire.

I'mma copy what I wrote on that other forum regarding questions for Urk:

Here's the questions that should be easiest to answer. Based on the latest build of the game or what's currently planned for future builds:
  • Are the grenade tosses similar to CE/2/3, more like ODST's, or something new? Any description would be nice.
  • Speaking of grenades, any changes to their radius or damage from 3 to Reach?
  • Has the basic (non-assassination) melee system changed from 3? Lunge range, damage, etc.
  • Beyond the new gameplay features added in Reach like health (yuck), equipment, and anything yet to be revealed; are there any other changes players can expect to feel when playing as a spartan II? For example is the movement speed and jump height of the spartan IIIs any different from the spartan IIs and elites we played in Halo 3.
  • IIRC Halo 3 had a custom content limit of 100 items (map variants, custom gametypes, and films) along with a screenshot limit of 50. Can't speak for everyone but I ran into the limit rather quickly and would like to know if this limit has been increased or, better yet, taken out. I realize these features haven't really been covered so at the very least can you say that Bungie recognizes it as a problem for some in Halo 3?

Questions I don't expect
real
answers to but I'll ask anyways:
  • If the Reach pistol is not "on a caliber of the DMR" is there anything redeeming about it other than something to use beside the AR when looking for a DMR?
  • What's the reasoning behind extending the time between sniper shots? Will other power weapons that have been used for even easier kills such as the laser and rockets also be tweaked to make them less powerful? I realize all the weapons may have some tweaks but is there a similar effort to tweak these other power weapons from Halo 3 to bring them down a notch?
  • More of a request than a question. Enjoyed the Point of Impact article and would love to see more. Content wise I'm interested in any and all changes to the weapons and vehicles in Reach so in depth looks at new tools of destruction as they're revealed and just as importantly changes made to returning ones.

Tried to the first list as reasonable as possible. Can't see any reason why most of the content in question would kept secret given what they've shown the press and revealed themselves.

So that first person shot was taken from film playback? We haven't seen real gameplay... :(
Thought everyone knew those screens were taking using the screenshot feature in Reach. Just because that shot was taken in first person doesn't mean Bungie went out of their way to capture it through direct feed rather than use the same way all the other shots were taken. Press may've been shown a live demo ("real gameplay") or just a saved film but either way the saved films don't look any better than real-time gameplay. Until we see gameplay videos (from direct feed of live play or a saved film) of course we have seen "real gameplay."

This is one of my Halo 3 pet peeves. There should be something, something barely noticeable, but something, letting you know you got the kill, without having to find a line of text on the side of the screen.

Hmmm, I think I might have a very different experience with when I played Shadowrun. I know that I got a lot of kills from randomly spamming the Rifle and beating people who were obviously trying to control their reticule bloom (ie not moving, spaced out shooting). Of course I only played Shadowrun for a month because they didn't include the Legacy control set up (which is what I use because I'm old).

Granted that I doubt Halo will ever penalize movement (ie reticule bloom due to moving a la Shadowrun) it will be interesting to see how many complaints we get after Reach ships complaining about how "n00bs are killing 'skilled' players by spamming the DMR" and winning on RNG.

I'm hoping that they actually define the role the DMR has instead of having it end up like the BR or even the god-awful M6D. And thank god this last podcast re-cemented the fact that the M6D was a bugged/broken weapon. An "all-around" in a game of defined weapons makes it unbalanced.

wtf - really? THIS is an argument you want to make?

So it's only 'gameplay' if live content is captured by direct feed?

That's nuts.

Exactly what I thought as I read the post when catching up.
Also, that image electricpirate posted isn't up anymore, was it taken down for a reason?

Edit: Nevermind, must have been my connection.

Play MLG...there's not an AR in sight!

Yeah but theres also no Radar and the settings and even maps are slightly different, its not the Halo experiance I enjoy.

Unfortunatly all the BR 100% start playlists morph the Halo gameplay in ways which make them less fun than just playing something like Slayer and hoping to get a BR start.

As for the Reticule screenshot, what the hell where Bungie thinking releasing that to the fan's they knew we were going to speculate heavily on it :lol

FWIW, that particular screenshot, the first person one with the questionable reticule, was not taken in a saved film. We had other issues with films and screenshots in that timeframe, requiring me to do it the old fashioned way and pause the game on the fly and use our console command.

The exact explanation for reticule-of-baffling-leftness is coming in the update tomorrow. (I just drizzled on Urk's parade)

I love your username :lol

So the controversy continue's, its not a bug...

any chance of an explanation for the bit of the screen that got hidden tomorow please? :D

EDIT: OOOH I have a question or 3 for Urk:

If we are going back to old style healthpacks is it safe to assume that fall damage will also return?

If there is fall damage is that the end of the Mancannon?

Will the armour abilitys be unlimited use, for example can a player literally turn invisible every 2 minuites of a match? - or will the ability have a cap no matter how high?

I just want to see what I am really going to get in my screen. Also, it isn't something that only Bungie does. All developers enhance their promo shots. However, I thought that since the game was in such an early stage the playback mode had not been properly implemented. Also, "went out of their way" is such an overstatement. It is relatively easy for a developer to get a framebuffer capture.

You and I both know it's because the vast majority of Halo players who are terrible probably whined about getting crushed by the sniper. Snipe is like the most balanced weapon in the game right now. You have to be totally aware of your surroundings before you switch to it, you have a limited number of bullets, you get kicked out of scope when you take any damage and you have to hit a moving target with a tiny reticule. This is not the weapon to be altering, Bungie.
