Yeah, so Halo 3, but instead of going "to war" with Miranda, you just go "to bed." Skyboxes, fragile crates, and space forklifts all look better when you're getting space mouth jobs. Master Chief has been woefully "unemployed" for what, his whole life?urk said:It's a third person action shooter set in space featuring, wait for it, yellow forklifts and a warehouse full of crates.
And space sex.

I couldn't finish a turducken in four days. But mass effect 2 is at least 165% of a game.FlawlessCowboy said:So, basically, Mass Effect 2 is the terducken of gameplay experiences.
kylej said:You will love ME2. It's a shooter with a few very simple RPG elements and a great story. You can run straight through the narrative and fling dudes into the air with your force powers then light them on fire with a flamethrower. Or you could spend 40 hours combing through every dialogue option and reading the massive amounts of universe backstory. Either way it's pretty streamlined and nothing like a clunky JRPG or baroque fantasy RPG. BUY MASS EFFECT 2.

Damn son. I don't completely agree, but you make some interesting points. Halo lacks a cinematic feeling. Bungie has never delivered the complete package. Gameplay wise though, all of Bungie games are heads and shoulders above the competition IMHO. I am also excited to see where things go with 343 though.kylej said:"Wasted opportunity" basically sums up every Halo campaign since CE. There are very few set pieces, the cutscenes are terrible and the levels are either ugly or linear to the point of banality. The story is always forgettable and the places the campaign takes you lack any poignancy. Bungie offers little exposition then expects people to take the death of minor characters seriously. Halo is an interstellar drama yet the character has to walk down drab highways every game. The much vaunted encounter system showed its age long ago. The opening minutes of Mass Effect 2 have more style, drama and maturity than the entirety of Halo 2 and 3.
As hilariously lame as both Halo Waypoint and Halo Anime are, I'm excited to see what 343 will do with the franchise. Bungie can build a brilliant underpinning for multi-player shooters but I haven't seen them do much else for nearly a decade.
Yeah its a decent shooter (better than Gears Of War or Uncharted for example) with cool dialogue. Mass Effect 1 was also a shooter (a bad one) if you set all the leveling up elements to auto, but these were thankfully removed for the second game. You won't get any enjoyment out of the story if you play ME2 by itself though. All the context of the dialogue will get lost.OuterWorldVoice said:Is it seriously a shooter? The least you could do is place it in some sort of alien warehouse or maybe inside Cortana's ass.
Halo 3 Yellow Forklift Asset has saved my ass a few times on Standoff. Its appearance beside a staircase at the bottom of the world or wherever you were in the Virgil part of ODST is probably its funniest. Yellow Forklift Asset is one of the best Halo characters.

Disregarding the things Kylej said about set-pieces, linearity, and encounters in Halo (things I think it does better than almost any other game); I do believe the story and storytelling in Halo has been shit. Seems like they're giving it more attention with mocap, the facial motion thing, and the handicam cinematic. Reach could be a huge step in this regard.godhandiscen said:Damn son. What, what, what? Hating Cortana's level design, etc. makes perfect sense, but hating on the graphics?kylej said:this but at least those might be forgiven because they're human environments. Still confused why the penultimate Halo 3 level in an alien environment had to look like this

Wow, are you sure you are playing Mass Effect 2 and not Gears of Wars 2? Because that's basically what you described, a lame shooter with a story worse than the one in Halo 3. I agree with the bolded. It would just be awesome to see Bungie getting some emotion out of me with their cutscenes. I mean, they have one of the best composers of our generation on their side, yet the storytelling feels so flat... whatever.EazyB said:Disregarding the things Kylej said about set-pieces, linearity, and encounters in Halo (things I think it does better than almost any other game); I do believe the story and storytelling in Halo has been shit. In the end I wouldn't really care if these things never improved as long as they kept pushing the gameplay elements that set the series apart but I'm sure it'll make a lot of other people happy.
And while ME2 does a much better job of character development, which is to be expected given that it's an RPG, I wouldn't place it's plot much higher than the shit we got with Halo 3. I actually thought it was much less interesting than ME1's and paced really poorly.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about online multiplayer culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is the PS2 where nobody gives a shit about the old PSN. If you bring down LIVE for the OG Xbox, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the Halo 2 players, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Halo Reach, nor will they purchase any of 343's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated an entire market with this move.
Microsoft, publicly apologize and keep LIVE for the OG Xbox or you can kiss your business goodbye.

3.6k is pretty impressive for midweek numbers. More than 10% of the ODST numbers. I can guarantee you weekly numbers are more than 10k unique players. Seems pretty shitty that they're doing this but it could (I hope) be for a better reason than saving money on servers.Sai-kun said:All..

Not the first time my views on a AAA game have differed from the main consensus (Fallout 3 and AC2 come to mind).

That doesn't follow in the slightest. MICROSOFT IS GOING TO STOP SUPPORTING LIVE FOR ORIGINAL XBOX TITLES. ALL OF THE HALO 2 PLAYERS WILL, THEREFORE, NEVER AGAIN BUY A HALO GAME. Because they enjoy a game, they won't buy more games in the series. Right. Personally, I wish they were keeping original xbox titles online, but if it ian't economically feasible, Microsoft has every right to shut it down.godhandiscen said:What this means is the Halo 2 players, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Halo Reach, nor will they purchase any of 343's games.
