Such a small glimpse of the Needle Rifle, need to see more!

I hope some iteration of Firefight makes it back in with these increased enemy/vehicle numbers. 4 people with choppers on a Lost Platoon-ish map against 30+ enemies and a ton of vehicles? Oh hell yes :D

GOD WHY DOES REACH KEEP GETTING COMPARED TO A SAUSAGE.

Am I the only one that notices this?

EDIT: Posted at top of update, now at bottom and by making zero sense at all, I now understand.

And since the Reach Beta is now definitively set for May 3rd, you can bet we’ve got big, delta force type plans to bring you all kinds of tidbits about this deliciously crazy sausage over the next couple of months. After all, we haven’t even shown squat from the multiplayer side yet. Hell, we haven’t really shown you that much from campaign. This is what you might call the tip of the proverbial iceberg and you best believe that we’re gonna take you on a deep dive before you swim around in the public beta pool.

Awesome! Nice to know we're going to get another dose of content on Reach before the beta goes live. :D

Nicely done urk. You've had a long day. Up at the crack of six, then stewing in the exploded bratwurst that is the Vidoc reaction. Liked the concise update, and I'm guessing right now that the prise The Wolf is talking about is early access to the Beta.

Saw this in the morning, but I only just got to get on GAF to read the thread(s). Looks very awesome. I don't really have anything specific, so much was awesome. Deemer, pistol, T+R throwback, HUGE battles, grenade launcher, shotgun, AR, more open, customization... :D

So we've been told about a new gametype coming with the beta. Any guesses as to what it could be? Something inspired by another game, or something we'll never see coming?
I think a stricter Forge game could be awesome. Make it so only one player is made monitor and can only spawn up to a certain budget...could be awesome.

Also, I'm wondering when an ARG will start up. When did Iris start? Summer-ish?

So, when are we starting to say our goodbyes in form of Custom Games?

I played a little today and nostalgia hit me hard.. but matchmaking is pretty slow on anything other than Team Slayer.

But, as always, there’s much more to this story. Not only is the team’s approach to building out our multiplayer and campaign spaces different this time around in a number of ways, there’s also some monumental stuff looming in Reach’s multiplayer world that’ll flip the script if all goes to plan. Sounds all kinds of mysteriously ambitious, doesn’t it? It is.
I'm guessing the lines between Firefight and Multiplayer are going to blur a bit.

Luke Timmins in the Vidoc calls the Halo universe and fandom a big'Ole sausage.

Considering that the BR doesn't exist during Reach's time (or at least that I know of), it seems like the DRM would take the BR's place and it looks like it just might. I would think that Bungie may try to create a BR-like weapon and I was just wondering if the DRM was it since it seems like it may essentially function like it (although it looks a little toned down in power compared to the BR in H3).

I'm surprised he even managed to get a clean, cut shave on his face. Considering the amount of facial hair the dude can grow, he probably needed a butcher knife.

That's what immediately came to mind when I read that too. Don't want if that's the case. :(

Hm? Isn't it a good thing that FireFight and MP differentiate themselves?

Maybe I got the wrong impression from Ghaleon's post, but I thought he was saying that it sounded like the two (firefight and classic multiplayer) would combine in some sort of way. I want both completely separate. No AI or bots in my multiplayer k thnx.

It is but this could very well be what the new "gametype" in the beta is. MP game mode, probably objective based with teams, and the map populated with Covenant or dropships dropping them in when certain objective goals are met.

It would be cool to have a couple wide-open maps where you have to just escape to the end alive for whatever reason. And the whole time The Covenant are just bombarding you with troops.

Maybe there will be two teams pitted against one another, each holed up in a base seeing who can last longer on Reach. Whoever has more stamina to outlast the other team will win and prove to Reach that they can last long enough to please her.

Yeah, sorry about that.

I'm really interested in seeing what this new gametype is, honestly I'm not too excited about a Firefight and Competitive MP mash up like some of you are discussing, but I have faith in Bungie to make something awesome. Plus what Marty says at the end of the Vidoc has me wetting myself with excitement.

TeamXbox has their preview up, not sure if posted yet...

http://previews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/2503/Halo-Reach/p1/

Graphically, the game is a far cry from even the most recent Halo titles. Polygon counts and texture resolutions have gone up by an order of magnitude, and it shows in the up-close shots of characters and weapons. During the demo, they zoomed in on a battle rifle to show the tiny writing on the weapon’s sighting device. The graphical upgrade is so profound, that it almost looks like it belongs on a future generation of consoles. Particles and lighting have also been significantly upgraded, with grenade explosions looking far more complex and projectiles kicking up dust and chunks of debris from any surface they hit. Halo: Reach is one of the best-looking games we’ve seen on the Xbox 360 yet.

A version of the BR is used by Johnson and his crew in Contact Harvest, which is when the Convenant make first contact. So it's definetly around.

Does that mean it's going to be in Reach? Or is the DRM still the replacement?

I guess different people are using different button layouts or the button placement has been chaning often. I've seen both "Hold X to swap for *Needler image*" and "Hold RB to drive Ghost" in the ViDoc.

Do we know yet if Reach will have the carbine or is the needle rifle most likely the replacement for it? When I saw the skirmishers fire that thing in the vidoc I got the impression that it was the equivalent of a carbine just as it makes sense that the DMR is the replacement for the BR.

i dont think we "know" but thats been my assumption as well. although the vidoc did have a "plasma carbine" post-it, so maybe its being overhauled a bit to fit in differently in the sand-box

I don't think that proves anything, as picking up a weapon and driving a vehicle might be mapped differently now.

Not what I meant.

One of the major criticisms of Firefight in ODST was how limited it was. No gametypes, no real options, no customizability. That was due of course to the scope of the game and the reuse of Halo 3's tech.

What I was imagining for Reach was the addition of gametypes and customization to Firefight, with teams possible (a max of say, 4v4 to accommodate the AI enemies). And the advantage of using campaign spaces is that the AI already knows how to navigate the geometry. I'm assuming - always dangerous! - that's why the spaces are partially carved out from campaign. So MP and Firefight would blur a little bit. Maybe even Forge could be applied to those same spaces to customize Firefight encounters.

We talk about three way encounters. I'm hoping we can build entire gametypes around that idea in Reach.

There's no more of that equipment right? Also, can we have reload on X back?

No more equipment but you have new armour ability's to replace them, For example the new "sprint":

I have no idea. The following quote initially gave me the impression was that it would be interesting for players owning the final copy of the game but I just noticed the use of the word "planning". I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe it will be a Beta treat.
