That song *just* came up as I refreshed. :D awesome.

God, Halo has such an amazing soundtrack. ALL of the games have amazing soundtracks. Fuck. I could listen to this forever
Under Cover of Night...Covenant Dance...SO good. First soundtrack is probably my favorite. Most likely due to nostalgia maybe haha.

2 has lots of good tracks and lots of nostalgia with that too.

Halo 3 though? I friggin love Tribute. The chills.

I was in that section today. My god those things were hard.I ended up having to flit from building to building taking shots at their soft candy core with beam rifles till I went through 3 rifles. After that i managed to stick and shotgun my way to victory. Goddamn that was satisfying.
First time playing through, and I'm rummaging through some stuff in one of the buildings overlooking the plaza. I had already cleared it out of snipers and brutes so I thought it was safe enough to switch my mind into ammo/weapon scavenging mode.

Then when I briskly walked down the steps and ran smack dab into a Hunter. Enormous - it looked like it barely fit within the darkened hallway - I freaked. Literally. I almost dropped my controller, but catching some of my wits, went into full on fight-flight, mostly flight. Running back upstairs, through the room, and jumping off a balcony, running across the street and crouching behind a door, aim dead-set on the entrance across the street, trying to catch my breath...

It was the last time I've actually been scared while playing a game. Damn you Bungie!

I know! Such bittersweetness.

Marty reprised the most loved Halo songs really well in Halo 3. They were different, but similar enough to signify the trilogy coming full circle. ODST was something fresh, and if the quality of that is any indication (OMG Rain!), we are in for a full aural feast come Reach.

From a Eurogamer preview posted today.

In fact, all the returning weapons have had an injection of testosterone. The Plasma Pistol's charged bolts hiss and slam and a reinvigorated Assault Rifle barks and roars, while the delay between firing and hitting a target has in many circumstances been reduced to zero. The Battle Rifle's in there, too.

Not sure if they're mistaking the DMR for it but if not is this the first time we've had actual confirmation the BR is in the game?

I know alot of people have been pining for it so I thought I'd point it out.

The article goes the entire length without once mentioning the DMR, so I'm guessing they're referring to that.

I dont see the harm in adding the thing, it would please a lot of fans. They control the campeign and if they dont want the BR in campeign they could withhold it from that, the same with Multiplayer. So what im saying is they should add it as a forge option if not anything else so the fans can use it in customs if they want.

Am I the only one mourning the loss of the Bubble shield? Why does everyone including Bungie hate equipment so much?

I don't believe Bungie hates equipment. They just like this "perk" system is better. Their last podcast(I think) explains this.

I am kinda hoping for a bubble shield ability myself. I always thought the bubble shield was cool, ever since that CG advert that featured it. It'd be comedy to run around for a few seconds with a big bubble around you, maybe that's just me though.

that's the only logical explanation. I mean the DMR is basically a BR that only fires one shot. a house only needs one kitchen, eh.

I think the DMR is basically the precursor to the Battle Rifle.

what is the point of not including the br, at least in multiplayer?

tons of fps have more than 1 rifle that are different..

or alternatively just let us customise weapons completely for our own games

I dunno, maybe they want to try something a little different for the MP and not have it like Halo 2/3 with everyone running around with the BR. I personally would not want Halo: Reach MP just being an upgraded Halo 2/3. I would rather they try something a little different and that goes for the weapons too.

The thing I actually like about Halo is the restricted amount of weapons. As much as I like COD giving me loads to chose from, I realistically only use 3 or 4.

I've seen Starbucks less equipped than your basement, Wu. I'm pretty sure idea of "coffee shop and wifi zone" came from one of your LANs.

so...any word about firefight yet? i can't imagine how insane it will be with 30+ enemies.
Nothing official other than Bungie saying 'we are not known to leave out features' or something similar.

Can't wait for Reach.

Going to miss the MC and Cortana...will there be another AI to love?

They've hinted that its in before, but not recently. However:

  • They keep saying Reach's MP is going to be "ambitious".
  • MP maps are lifted from campaign, meaning they are spaces the AI is already familiar navigating.
  • Bungie has made mention of new modes and gametypes for Reach.
I'm probably seeing in part what I want to see, but I think the above just screams the new iteration of Firefight is in.

Vehicular mayhem, that is.

Can't wait.

And maybe six player firefight?

Foe Hammer, like MC and the rest, was on the Pillar of Autumn at the time. Now way she's in the game.

The Autumn is above the planet somewhere so it's not beyond reason that we'll get some sort of cameo, even if it's just a radio transmission.

Is there going to be more unique customization for your Spartan in this one? That one part of the ViDoc seemed to hint at it

I'd give my right nut - and maybe the left - for 4v4 Firefight, so some full on team based play could happen alongside the Covenant carnage. But I'm not getting my hopes up quite that high yet.
Forge Firefight maps, please.

Yes. And the custimization applies to campaign as well.

They've said you will be able to customise your Noble Six and it will apply across single and multi-player.

Is it just me or have there been variuse interviews and so on where Bungie have been hinting towards Noble teams sacrifices actually helping the events of Halo 1 taking place?

If thats the case I think it would be awesome if you helped get a load of the troops off the ground and into supply ships heading towards the Pillar of Autumn just as Reach is about to fall.

That would be the best you could hope for.

Something akin to L4D's versus mode would be truly amazing in Halo Reach.

4 players as the spartans, and other 4 as Elite-Brute-Hunter-whatever, alongside with tons of AI-controlled covenants.

With vehicles and everything.

Halo day-dreaming. xD

The firefight I dreamed of back during Halo 2 took place on one the Coagulation bases. The base was stocked with all weapons while hordes of Covenant infantry and vehicles came over the hills.

They are setting the game up like Shadowrun. They are trying to not have weapons that are similar to eachother. DMR is like the BR; its versatile.

I have also been away from gaf for a while, it's good to be back.

Has it been confirmed that dual-wielding is out? I suspected it because no screen-shots show any dual-wielding even when there are weapons which have traditionally be dual-wieldable like plasma pistols. I heard from someone that it was confirmed in some podcast, maybe the OXM podcast or some other one. I hope dual-wielding is out, I thought the same variations of dual-wieldable weapons were much more satisfying in Halo CE. The Plasma Rifle for example is a great weapon, and once you had to dual-wield it they had to nerf it for balance. I would like to see nondual-wieldable versions of all the traditionally dual-wieldable weapons like the Spiker, Plasma Pistol, SMG, etc.

I thought the vidoc was probably the best one Bungie has ever put out. I'm very happy to see how awesome the graphics look. The cinematics and faces truly look like a generational leap. I'm happy to see the Elites, Brutes and Engineers in there. The weapons looking amazing. I've always found weapons in other games to be more satisfying, maybe because of the sound. If you remember the SMG in H2, and then using the SMG in H3 it felt a lot better and most of that can be attributed to the sound.

Sprinting looks great, and we know about cloaking. Are there any other armor abilities we know of yet?

The telescoping reticule is very interesting. I get the feeling that people won't be able to run around with a Sniper Rifle using it as a close-range weapon and getting no-scopes anymore. Actually, if you go off how things worked in Shadowrun and most other FPS games I don't think you'll be able to jump, strafe, and shoot as accurately with the DMR as we did with the BR in the previous games. I think this would be a welcome change and would make the game much more balanced. Clearly some people would not like this, but I think it's a given to some capacity based on what we've seen in the vidoc. It makes sense that a DMR wouldn't work as well as an AR once you're in close quarters and you would switch to an AR, unlike the previous BR and sniper which people would use everywhere.

I don't think this means the maps will be campaign spaces as in ODST. I feel that historically bungie has made their maps based off campaign environments as in Citadel, Valhalla, and Avalanche. Maybe a mix of exact campaign sets and familiar environments but I can't see them going with exclusively exact campaign locales.

no, of course it is. I didn't mean to go all ad-domum on you :lol

I am just saying you only NEED one kitchen. Sky's the limit.

btw. if the kitchen appliances metaphor catches on, I hope I get ample credit.

RIP, Brian. Never knew him, but I was moved to tears years ago reading the HBO pages on him, and smile every time I hear his voice in the first Halo.

Wow.

I've been meaning to go back and play through Halo. At what point in Halo does he speak?
