I see, and what did you learn from this that we already didn't know from updates?

We got to see it, seeing is always better than reading about someone else playing it.

Why are you arguing about something that is so obvious as to why someone would want leaks to happen?

Speaking of leaks, im shocked that Microsoft never banned my old friend who leaked those Tasavo Highway and forge videos onto the net during the epsilon test, I mean hell his gamer tag even popped up during the video when he paused. He even made post about all the info that came from that test too.

Then again I'm always playing with Dani and he has a knack for killing things with wheels so unless we're both dead, out of grenades, in extremely awkward positions, have no map control whatsoever, have no equipment, plasma pistols or power weapons and are extremely outmatched (in which case we deserve to lose anyway) we never really have a problem.

I'm a jealous bastard, if I don't some wheels like heck I'm going to allow the enemy team to have the fun. :lol

I agree with what you've said, you've seen my anti-vehicle fun. I remember one time too with Sai-Kun, we got split in matchmaking and ended up on different teams for Slayer on Rat's Nest. Not only did I repeatedly dong on Sai (yes, it's worth pointing out =P) but I racked up four enemy hog kills, each one either a double or triple kill. :lol

Ghal's advice is just perfect in terms of tagging hogs with death. I was going to make a post but his sums it up perfectly.

I'm a massive hog fan, both in driving it and killing it and I can honestly say driving is so much harder, there are so many ways to kill a hog but dumb luck and a grenade tend to the job most times when there's not a smart person on the opposite team.

Hey Urk, any word on a possible February return of the Bungie Podcast? Lots to talk about, what with X10 being over and the Reach Beta just around the corner. Maybe you could tease the Alpha a little too.

I four shot Warthogs.
I'm trying to find it, but I used to have a hilarious video in which I two-shot a Warthog that was terrorizing my team on Avalanche. Everyone is panicking, getting mowed down, and I step up and fire off two BR shots, and the sucker blows up. If only I'd gotten there sooner.

I rendered it once (I think) but can't find it now.

I can't view those at work, but unless it's some guy using only bullets from his gun to take 'em down then I doubt it. I've never seen that happen.

And yes I know you can do all the stuff I've been talking about with grenades, I was using that as an example.

2 of my examples were rocket diversions using grenades, but another was with a sniper. I think they also tested it on Halo 3 Mythbusters. I don't know about other weapons though.
EDIT: Can't find the sniper example on H3 Mythbusters, but I did find a video of them doing it with a laser, and I think you can do it with a BR.

You know what, I wonder if the Halo 2 closing prize with the number guessing is a friends and family code to play the Halo: Reach beta early.
That would suck. Rumor has it urk will be giving early beta codes to the top10 HaloGaf posters. As a shoe in for one of those codes I would be wanting the possibility of winning something else from Halo 2.

Lawl, I remember the EPIC jealousy of not having been approved for gaf yet, and watching those F+F codes being handed out like candy on halloween. I was so jealous especially because I was so involved in the bungie community in the past (wrote for an Oni Fansite for a while fer-chris-sakes. That's bungie dedication! I was actually supposed to go down to San jose to play the game at one point, and RL got in the way)

I'm just a grumpy old fan

I have feelings you know. Besides, I am trying my best.

I wouldn't mind so much if you didn't wear your kilt in the scottish way.

But they're not. The majority of players are just terrible at dealing with them.
As Ghal says, a lot of maps are filled to brim with anti-vehicle stuff and if you've got the skill and the balls to confront it, it's a sinch.
If people hide inside their base and whine like they've just been raped that is exactly what is going to happen.

I also prefer that the rockets didn't have forced lock-on, tracking is sometimes detrimental to your efforts.
Vehicles are fine in both Halo 2 and Halo 3. Although in 2 you have a greater chance of survival against a chaingun because it isn't nearly as devastating as it is in H3. The chaingun in 3 can kill within seconds of spawning. H2's chaingun is a reason Ninja on Fire shifted toward using a Gauss on maps like Containment, Coagulation, and Terminal. Vehicles like a Warthog and Ghost were destroyed once stuck, which isn't the case in H3.

As for the "forced lock-on," which is inaccurate, you have to hold down RT and then move the cursor to fire. Not sure if you're insisting it always fires in lock-on fashion or not, but wanted to make that clear.

If I was to decide which primary anti-vehicle I rather play with/against in Halo: Reach, much rather roll with a lock-on Rocket Launcher over a Spartan Laser. The Pod would be OK for large maps, I suppose, but it is sits on a third person mode, and if its like Halo 3, walking will be slower and they won't be able to use abilities. You don't want that type of limitation to be your primary source of anti-air or anti-ground vehicle preference.

From the article:
“The Cinecam lets you do some mocap, clean your scene up, and put it all back into Motion Builder. From your monitor you can see the scene playing back, it can be looping if you need it to, and you can move the camera and get the perfect view using handheld or steady cam. However you wanna do it in the volume, it works.

It’s the same process that was used in the making of Avatar, except ours uses a cheaper monitor and a couple of pieces of wood leftover from one Kurt’s (Nellis) home projects. Less money, same results.”

This might be a good place to make mention that the recent ruckus in the press over accusations that Cameron had infused Avatar with some Halo-esque attributes have given us a good chuckle. We’ve always been quite clear – and it should be quite apparent to anyone paying any modicum of attention – that Halo was influenced, in part, by Cameron’s “Aliens.”

Either way, we figure if James Cameron is talking about you and your work, you must be doing something right.
McFarland isn’t interested in talking about the press, though. He’s still giving props to the groundwork laid before his arrival.

“It’s something that I’ve seen at other companies, but I’ve never seen it done in a two pass like that – just like Cameron is doing it. I saw it here first and then later on in the making of Avatar. A lot of these things spring up simultaneously.”

Clarification: We’re not saying Cameron swiped tech out from under us, right?

“Totally in parallel. I don’t know where CJ (Cowan) and Javi got the idea. It seems to me like a natural thing that sort of sprung up for cinematics support.”
:O

Bungie are totally ripping off Avatar. They must be scribbling notes like crazy during those behind the scenes documentaries.
Now it makes sense why there are two Blue spartans. It also explains the weird braids down their backs...

Really awesome article. It's great to see all of the stuff that's gonna make Reach awesome.

God heavies is such a bad game variant. It's literally someone deciding to throw as many power weapons and vehicles onto a map and letting all hell break loose.

Okay, I shouldn't say bad. It's just annoying.

You are not in Kansas anymore, you are on Reach, Spartans, respect that fact every second of every day.

Yeah, that article was awesome. Another great quote:
“When I interviewed, I respectfully but honestly mentioned some of the things that I was disappointed with in Halo 3. After I got the job, they coincidentally talked about animation in the State of the Studio Address. They showed where we were at with Reach and almost all of those things I had brought up in the interview had already been addressed. I was like this is so -blam!- cool.”

And the overall game itself?

“We have this team of characters and they all have their own personality, so it’s not just a generic motion for every Spartan anymore. This guy is very specifically Jorge. This is Kat. They have their own attitude and it’s great. It just sells the performance a little bit more. That’s what I’m looking forward to in Reach.

I’m just really looking forward to seeing how it all comes out.”

Great article, Urk. Love to see some Reach animations side by side with Halo 3, like the model examples, if you know what I mean. nudge nudge, wink wink

Hoping for some MP info. But That might be too much to ask for. Some small gameplay facts would be cool.
But electricpirate's is sure to happen.

Pretty sure it will just cover what was revealed at X10. Keighley will try to get some info out of Bungie, but Bungie will be too tight-lipped to reveal anything other than what we know of so far.

Yep, we'll have gameplay of both Fable 3 and Halo Reach next week
To those asking, yes, my X10 interviews with @pmolyneux and @bungietweets air next Thurs. Lots of really cool tidbits on Reach & Fable 3.

So it could either be a rehash of the ViDoc, or new gameplay, or something else. Maybe there will be good stuff in the interview.

Probably, but Keighley said there will also be:
A couple cool nuggets that will have people talking.

Warthogs take more than one sticky blow up in 2. We were messing around in 2 a few weeks ago and I noticed this.

hey, i can do it 2

Trade secrets are taken seriously at Bungie and motion capture is no exception.
MIR? It would fix the "not block the markers" problem.

Okay. :lol Terrible at dealing with them? How do you deal with them?
I now deal with vehicles by using a good gaming headset. I can callout "Hog coming up on the left, Chopper on the right" a few seconds after spawning. It's nice knowing where they are at all times.

Id like to say that bungie isnt the only one that can pull off tights at work. It just makes it easier because they have an excuse for making gameplay.

Its nice to see that they are practicing the articualtions of jorge with that massive gun though.

I was playing the Aliens vs Predator game the other day and noticed that like halo reach that you can have a whole cutscene assassination sequence. Problem i have with this is that you can get killed in sequence when playing AvP and you cant do anything about it, being locked in and all. Im curious as to see if anyone has any info or speculation as to if it will be the same concept or same verbatim idea?

I think the general guess is that it'll be a tap for instant assassination and a hold for a shame-ation.

In Reach, the assassination animation is optional - just a flourish move. The traditional "one smack from behind kills ya" move is still in. So if you get killed doing the flourish, it's your fault. And humiliating, to boot. (Plus, from the looks of it in the vidoc, it's pretty speedy.)

You missed a lot of sausage.

Oh, you also missed ARvBR iteration 7million, splitscreen discussions, and actual geometry vs "wallpaper" skyboxes.
