if Bungie is going for more players.. they'll have to improve A LOT their netcode.. since in Halo 3 a lot of Halo 3 (including 4vs4) matches have lag.. Just sayin'..

Not true. I once saw Nutter hosting a room with 246 people in it while balancing on his head.

He didn't even blink once.

No kidding. If there aren't dedicated servers I'd much rather they stick with 8v8.

Warthogs take more than one sticky blow up in 2. We were messing around in 2 a few weeks ago and I noticed this.
Hmm, interesting. I was in a Warthog with some random at Containment and we got stuck because he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the Gauss. We died upon detonation. No prior sticks before, hits from another Warthog, or a shot from the Tank. Only minor fire such as SMG and BR.

Ghosts also are this way as I stuck one player, whose Ghost was in grand shape, at Relic who tried gunning for me at Rockets spawn.

That's what I'm hoping.

I love Big Team games and objectives as much as the next guy, but they can try 10 vs 10 or whatever all they want. I'm just hoping the maps have the scale and they give the according gametypes for it (Multi CTF, 1 CTF, Multi Bomb, 1 Bomb, Neutral Bomb).

I don't like BTB in Halo 3 as much. I think it's the maps. Avalanche, Last Resort, and Valhalla are nice but the rest not so much.

Oh, and when I say RvB aspect, I mostly mean ridiculously long matches from pre-patched Halo 2. That stuff was fun times, but too silly to actually bring back.

That's like worrying that every playlist except BTB is going away.
More accurately it'd be like worrying BTB will become even more laggy to the point of becoming unplayable.

It also means the scale of the maps will have to be stretched out more if they plan on keeping the same player densities from 3. In 3 BTB maps like Valhalla, Last Resort, Rat's Nest, and Longshore are often used in smaller playlists like Squad Battle's 6v6 and slayer/skirmish's 5v5. Maps designed for 10v10 would be much harder to use in other playlists. Same with maps like Standoff and Sandbox being used in BTB when they're designed for slightly smaller 5v5 games. These maps would be harder to use if BTB was bumped to 10v10.

The point is, when you increase the spectrum of max players you have to distribute the limited resources across that broader range. Since they're adopting a new method of "creating" MP maps they may be able to maintain the same amount maps per playlist size but it's something to think about. Maybe they'll take the PDZ route and have the maps scalable to help resolve this as well.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
I hope they don't go the PDZ route. Some of the maps in that were pretty average in the larger sizes.

Just got done playing Halo 2 with Bagel, Juices, Merg, Dubberrac, and some random guy we met. Vhfive also showed up for a very short 5 minutes. Having a gun that shot great and registered was great. Sniper took a bit to get used to but was a blast. I have to admit, the sniping mechanic in H2 was better at long range, but no scoping in H3 is tons more fun. The lack of ambient music in H2 menus is weird too.

Halo 2 Warthog is much more fun in Halo 2. I don't know what you're talking about Ghaleon. It drives circles around the clunky and slow halo 3 Hog. Gun is pretty weak though.

PLaying the real Zanzibar was a blast. I hope they look at what made their Halo 2 maps so great and implement that in Reach. We mostly played BTB and got Elongation twice. Needless to say, Shishka's name was yelled at in vain multiple times. I dont think he's responsible but honestly... why is Elongation in BTB?

Is it new?
It showed a banshee flying and some single player shooting. I can try to capture it, but it'll be pretty bad quality.

No real new info about the game out of it. No dual-wielding (so far at least) and they kind of hint at space battles but it probly won't happen.

9v9 sounds more likely. Bungie said themselves it won't be a huge increase, 10v10 would be 4 extra players and that's quite a bit more than I would expect.

Besides, CoD4/MW2 has had 9v9 for a while now. It works nicely.

Sounds interesting. Should pop on GT.com soon, so will catch it there.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
no new footage, just clips from the vidoc.... unless they surprise us with more before the show ends.

no duel wielding is a plus though

the actual quote was that it wouldnt exponential... so, we can definitely rule out 16^2, but anything less then that is possible

:p

I can't imagine Bungie would increase the player count unless they thought they could keep the experience at least as good as Halo 3 from a connectivity standpoint. Halo 3 made big strides over Halo 2's online code, and I'm expecting the same progression with Reach.

I'm thinking back to Sketch's comment about the Beta having a lot of new vehicles in it. Perhaps BTB is indeed going to be much larger in scale than Halo 3, perhaps to recreate the scale of battles seen in the campaign.

I don't think I've ever commented on Halo 3's Warthog controls, in any context, since the Beta. Not sure what you're talking about.

Ninja, I believe it was, scrapped together some smaller maps for Slayer in the unranked version of BTB. When there was ranked BTB, none of that shit was involved.

In my recent BTB tries, I've gotten 1-CTF on Relic, Multi-Bomb on Containment, and got Gulch Wars (similar to Heavies, but actually fun) on Coagulation.
I never understood why multi-bomb was never added to Halo 3's BTB. Never played it once. And very few one-flag CTF games, especially on Last Resort. :(

I'm betting on 24-32 player matches.

He said to not expect a huge increase... 24 players is a 8 player increase, thats a HUGE increase. 10 v 10 is more realistic, only a 4 player increase.... 32 player is extreme for a halo game, if they were able to pull it off they would be bragging about it IMO

He said not to expect an exponential increase.. ie from like 16 to 16^2 (256 player). double or 50% isn't that much of an increase for a player count. 8-16 extra players isn't much.

They've also talked a lot about how this halo is going to differ in the online quite a bit, so I am expecting larger gametypes, and more rts elements (especially with character customization). And with the engine being able to accommodate up to 40-50 characters and 20 vehicles on screen at once, you'd expect them to utilize this for multiplayer.

It'd also explain the need to use campaign levels as multiplayer levels, larger maps, scaling maps, user friendly and less resources.

I don't know if it is like this for anyone else but one thing I have noticed when waiting for the next release in the Halo franchise I kinda forget that I have other games to play. The hype and anticipation for this Beta is making me forget that I have other games to play. :lol

I agree. None of the skirmish variants were truly used to their potential, or enough.

Only CTF was used in that manner. Hope Assault/Bomb variants, as well as KotH and Oddball are better organized and constructed in Reach. Also cannot forget the unknown types they've hinted about.

What the fuck. You're taking "exponential" way too literally in terms of numbers. No one is expecting 256 players for one Halo match. It's probably going to be 10v10.

When he said "exponential" I took it as he was meaning it literally but as a joke, referencing the amount of players in MAG and how it is kinda overkill. :lol
