Well that's the thing that put me over the edge, $20 Amazon videogame credit means I was effectively getting it for $40. That plus it's value is tripled by merely offering a detraction from the Beta wait.Ramirez said:Thermight just said the other night how he wouldn't plop 60 down on a multiplayer only game! :lol

Brian Jarrard: We can probably clarify that its not I think the first thing people think of when they hear these types of things based on whats hot right now is oh, were introducing perks. The fundamental philosophy is not to introduce elements which start to throw off the balance of the game so for the most part these are customisable options which are overall aesthetic. Its never going to be a matter of I can do something because Ive played more than him and now were not on an even playing field. Thats not true to the core of Halo.
ML: Yeah. That would break that golden nugget at the core that foundation that our fans have come to know and expect from us. So no, player customisation is a visual upgrade.
While I recognize the utility of having armor abilities associated with fixed armor permutations, the customization snob in me strongly resents the idea. I like to have control over as many aspects of my character's appearance as I can, so I think that a visual cue that wouldn't alter my looks would be ideal. Perhaps a HUD element that indicates ability type when another player is targeted.EazyB said:Speaking of instilling some patience for the beta, just pre-ordered BF:BC2. I think it'd be perfect if armor abilities were determined by what armor permutation you had. It's been a concern of mine about how they were going to display the armor permutation on enemy/allies so shit didn't seem so random. It only makes sense to have the sprint ability lock you into using a unique gauntlet/boot permutation that makes it obvious to other players.
I really hope they keep BJ's shoulder button configuration. Haven't seen all the armor permutations yet but the ones revealed so far aren't going to benefit much from me not having to stop aiming to use a face button.

Im still worried about the Perk like nature of armour abilities though, even if everyone can use all of them from the start, will the game play more like rock paper scissors?
Will there be any visual identification of what ability someone has?
I liked what someone in here said about having different boots if youve got the sprint ability, just visually seeing what your opponent has and being able to react would make perks seem more skill based to me, if I know my enemy can sprint away it wont feel as cheap as if he just sprinted away without any warning.

I personally would rather the ability be indicated by something like the colour of lights on the armour, rather than modify the character model. Easier to identify, easier to learn. Really, though, I'd like them to be hidden. They aren't blatantly aggressive, and it's nice to have a trick up your sleeve.

On the Beta:So if multiplayer maps are editable in Forge and the same maps are campaign maps, can we expect to see Forge translated into some kind of feature that works with single player missions?
BJ: Were not actually talking about Forge and the implications of things like that.
Would that be a desirable feature?
BJ: Possibly. Its possible theres other things we havent talked about yet. At its core, the bulk of the maps are definitely rooted in the fiction.
It also applies to the amount of content as well, so in terms of maps youll see a few maps, youll see a couple of different game types some old stuff that returns, but also some new stuff that we havent revealed yet. Its some brand new multiplayer experiences that are big and risky and need to be in the beta to give us real stress testing and real balance testing. On top of that youre going to see a huge selection of the weapons that the game has to offer, a pretty healthy amount of armour abilities like our sprinting and our active camo and some things we havent talked about yet. Because really, from a design perspective, those things have the biggest impact on how people are going to play Halo hopefully in an awesome way, but also its the riskiest so were looking forward to that getting hammered on during the beta.
I did.Dani said:Hey guys, happy monday morning. =)

Recommend anyone who hasn't read the books (like myself) to read "Winter Contingency." It gives good back story to Reach and the Spartan program.Dani said:Hey guys, happy monday morning. =)

To the latter two, it depends if the armor abilities are going to be limited to affecting the player, or affecting other players. Would an EMP pulse strip the player's shields as well?Dirtbag said:has anyone made anymore guesses at the armor abilities

Some type of Shield?
Something to replace the deployable lifts
Jetpack?
SuperJump?

Vehicle only EMP burst?
Vehicle and infantry EMP?
In one of the X10 interviews, Sketch or Marcus says flat-out that there's no dual weilding in Reach.Dual Wielding armor perk?
They've been mysterious about the wording on No dual wielding.
The had that in Halo 3, but never really used it, sadly. I don't see that fitting into armor abilities so I'm guessing no.Deployable turret
place it / detonate it / recharges and redeploy
In some of the campaign footage you can see the night vision in action. Looks like it comes standard, though it would be an interesting option for an armor ability in MP: stick to the flashlight or use up your armor slot on night vision.Vision mode
ODST thing, could be pretty handy in some darker multiplayer maps
Nearly all of my ideas are more like equipment in that they're tossed onto the battlefield rather than focused on enhancing the player's capabilities. But my semi-random additions to the known list keeping it mostly focused on the player, to toss some ideas out:any other ideas?
I'm in the same boat. Always played the BF series on the PC (aside from 1943), and this will be no different. Better graphics, and more people than the console version. Ashame they won't be bringing back the classic 64 person battles though.Sai-kun said:i'm getting on the PC, which is clearly the superior version.
That reminds me. I wonder if they add something new with the Infection gamemode by adding his voice like they are apparently doing with Grifball. :lolSsparks said:
Would be awesome. Only one Spartan stands between an opposing team's Warthog and an easy capture. The vehicle, not threatened in the slightest, barrels in for the kill. The Spartan drops to one knee - his shield overcharges and an electric blue flash renders the vehicle dead in the water. The Spartan staggers back upward and scrambles for cover to let his shields recharge, while his teammates swoop in like sharks on the wounded vehicle. They've already used this "armor ability" in Halo 1, to take out the phase pulse generators in Two Betrayals. Extend the radius a bit and I think it'd be a really fun addition.GhaleonEB said:EMP: disable all shields and vehicles in range, ala power drain. Also drains the player's shields.
I never thought about it working that way. I could see that being overused a bit making it a bit overpowered, but then again it might turn out great. Guess we'll have to see.Syracuse022 said:They've already used this "armor ability" in Halo 1, to take out the phase pulse generators in Two Betrayals.
