Nice shootin', tex. :lol
And right as he fires that shot, the character dialog is, "I thought you were going to put up a fight?" *blam*

Glorious. :lol

Now i understand.

They built their own power generation plant in-game to supply the extra juice required to run the additional AI and graphical upgrades.

Sadly, I think me and you are the only ones getting it, the rest of our crew are filthy poors.

Hey guys, happy monday morning. =)

Just thought I'd let you guys know I've just launched my Halo project. It's a website called Forward Unto Dawn (http://www.forwarduntodawn.com) and I've just published my first article, a look at the Halo universe prior to the fall of Reach and a look at the planet Reach itself. I have ambitions for the site and more articles will be coming.

I hope some of you guys find it worth a read.

BTW emo Zelda games get me horny.
Well that's the thing that put me over the edge, $20 Amazon videogame credit means I was effectively getting it for $40. That plus it's value is tripled by merely offering a detraction from the Beta wait.

I just blew my mind a little bit: A chopper + frostbite engine's destructible environments...

This is extremely good news:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/...view--Bungie-Talks-All-Things-Halo--Reach.htm

Brian Jarrard: We can probably clarify that it’s not – I think the first thing people think of when they hear these types of things based on what’s hot right now is “oh, we’re introducing perks”. The fundamental philosophy is not to introduce elements which start to throw off the balance of the game so for the most part these are customisable options which are overall aesthetic. It’s never going to be a matter of “I can do something because I’ve played more than him and now we’re not on an even playing field.” That’s not true to the core of Halo.

ML: Yeah. That would break that golden nugget at the core – that foundation that our fans have come to know and expect from us. So no, player customisation is a visual upgrade.

I might be late to the party reading this though.

I think it'd be perfect if armor abilities were determined by what armor permutation you had. It's been a concern of mine about how they were going to display the armor permutation on enemy/allies so shit didn't seem so random. It only makes sense to have the sprint ability lock you into using a unique gauntlet/boot permutation that makes it obvious to other players.

I really hope they keep BJ's shoulder button configuration. Haven't seen all the armor permutations yet but the ones revealed so far aren't going to benefit much from me not having to stop aiming to use a face button.
While I recognize the utility of having armor abilities associated with fixed armor permutations, the customization snob in me strongly resents the idea. I like to have control over as many aspects of my character's appearance as I can, so I think that a visual cue that wouldn't alter my looks would be ideal. Perhaps a HUD element that indicates ability type when another player is targeted.

I realize that to balk at the notion of mandatory armor configurations while taking no issue with the way reserve weapons are visible on spartan models may be seen as an inconsistency. I submit that it merely makes the subjective nature of my protest more obvious.

Edit: Just read the post above mine. Great news.

I might be late to the party reading this though.

Im glad to read that the Armour perms are going to stay as visual only things, its also nice that they seem to be going further into how much visual customisation there is.

Im still worried about the Perk like nature of armour abilities though, even if everyone can use all of them from the start, will the game play more like rock paper scissors?

Will there be any visual identification of what ability someone has?

I liked what someone in here said about having different boots if youve got the sprint ability, just visually seeing what your opponent has and being able to react would make perks seem more skill based to me, if I know my enemy can sprint away it wont feel as cheap as if he just sprinted away without any warning.

Let him run. The DMR is hitscan for a reason.

I personally would rather the ability be indicated by something like the colour of lights on the armour, rather than modify the character model. Easier to identify, easier to learn. Really, though, I'd like them to be hidden. They aren't blatantly aggressive, and it's nice to have a trick up your sleeve.

Maybe this is a bad assumption, but I am assuming that you will not get to choose which ability you are going to spawn with which should prevent the "RPS" nature you are afraid of.

Keeping with the Halo fundamentals of map control, I would assume that it will play very similar to Red Faction: Guerilla. I thought RFGs backpacks did a much better job of keeping things fair then, say, perks.

I agree with this, and I hate myself for it :lol - I even considered talking about it in the post but I didn’t bother in the end.

I’ve had some awesome experiences with pulling out equipment as a surprise on people. Letting a hog think he’s going to splatter me and then throwing a grav lift never gets old, but the difference between equipment and armor perms is the fact that equipment is one use only, sure you can surprise someone once but that’s it. With perms everyone having aces up theyre sleeves every 2 minutes would be a little annoying.

Niroth in my opinion spawning with equipment and not spawning with it has its pro’s and con’s, and I really don’t know which way I would prefer. I hope Halo keeps its map control based nature, but I do think load outs could be fun. I’m in two minds and I’m glad it’s the people at Bungie making the decisions!

Also I just thaught, will we see the OS/ Camo power ups around the map anymore? - I guess theyre also getting translated into armour perms?

A Halo-Battlefiled MP-only could be amazing.

I have said it a few times but the above is something I really want to see for Reach. Yeah keep the CTF, Territories, King of the Hill etc but bring something new. Dragging it away from straight kill based modes to objective based modes is what I really want from Reach. :D

Oh, and the Assault mode should be more like Assault from UT (Mission objectives) and not just " Put bomb here and win" :lol

Great interview. They actually asked some sharp questions.

So if multiplayer maps are editable in Forge and the same maps are campaign maps, can we expect to see Forge translated into some kind of feature that works with single player missions?

BJ: We’re not actually talking about Forge and the implications of things like that.

Would that be a desirable feature?

BJ: Possibly. It’s possible there’s other things we haven’t talked about yet. At its core, the bulk of the maps are definitely rooted in the fiction.
On the Beta:

It also applies to the amount of content as well, so in terms of maps – you’ll see a few maps, you’ll see a couple of different game types – some old stuff that returns, but also some new stuff that we haven’t revealed yet. It’s some brand new multiplayer experiences that are big and risky and need to be in the beta to give us real stress testing and real balance testing. On top of that you’re going to see a huge selection of the weapons that the game has to offer, a pretty healthy amount of armour abilities like our sprinting and our active camo and some things we haven’t talked about yet. Because really, from a design perspective, those things have the biggest impact on how people are going to play Halo – hopefully in an awesome way, but also it’s the riskiest so we’re looking forward to that getting hammered on during the beta.

has anyone made anymore guesses at the armor abilities
Cloak
Sprint

Obviously something to replace the bubbleshielding / overshield
Some type of Shield?

Something to replace the deployable lifts
Jetpack?
SuperJump?

Something to replace the power drain
Vehicle only EMP burst?
Vehicle and infantry EMP?

Dual Wielding armor perk?
They've been mysterious about the wording on No dual wielding.

Deployable turret
place it / detonate it / recharges and redeploy

Vision mode
ODST thing, could be pretty handy in some darker multiplayer maps

Grapple Hook

Please please please! Tether to vehicles, and surf!

Stealth MP only
Jams radars

Smoke Bomb
Could be great for CTF.

any other ideas?

Insurgents helping the Covenant forces infiltrate Reach
... was that something you came up with yourself or has it been discussed before? Very interesting concept.

Recommend anyone who hasn't read the books (like myself) to read "Winter Contingency." It gives good back story to Reach and the Spartan program.

Agreed that it could be pretty fun either way. I think I lean slightly towards not letting the player chose because it could give more variety to matchmaking and customs if the hopper / host / forger was able to set default armor abilities (zombies with camo vs humans with sprint, or something).

To the latter two, it depends if the armor abilities are going to be limited to affecting the player, or affecting other players. Would an EMP pulse strip the player's shields as well?

Dual Wielding armor perk?
They've been mysterious about the wording on No dual wielding.
In one of the X10 interviews, Sketch or Marcus says flat-out that there's no dual weilding in Reach.

Deployable turret
place it / detonate it / recharges and redeploy
The had that in Halo 3, but never really used it, sadly. I don't see that fitting into armor abilities so I'm guessing no.

Vision mode
ODST thing, could be pretty handy in some darker multiplayer maps
In some of the campaign footage you can see the night vision in action. Looks like it comes standard, though it would be an interesting option for an armor ability in MP: stick to the flashlight or use up your armor slot on night vision.

any other ideas?
Nearly all of my ideas are more like equipment in that they're tossed onto the battlefield rather than focused on enhancing the player's capabilities. But my semi-random additions to the known list keeping it mostly focused on the player, to toss some ideas out:

Active camo
Sprint
Thrust pack (one burst per charge)
Grapple hook (attach to wall or vehicle)
EMP: disable all shields and vehicles in range, ala power drain. Also drains the player's shields.
Night vision (if dark maps are included); heat vision (to see through nearby walls) if dark maps are not

I'm in the same boat. Always played the BF series on the PC (aside from 1943), and this will be no different. Better graphics, and more people than the console version. Ashame they won't be bringing back the classic 64 person battles though.

It'd be a great way to start off some of these new Quarantine maps...

Would be awesome. Only one Spartan stands between an opposing team's Warthog and an easy capture. The vehicle, not threatened in the slightest, barrels in for the kill. The Spartan drops to one knee - his shield overcharges and an electric blue flash renders the vehicle dead in the water. The Spartan staggers back upward and scrambles for cover to let his shields recharge, while his teammates swoop in like sharks on the wounded vehicle. They've already used this "armor ability" in Halo 1, to take out the phase pulse generators in Two Betrayals. Extend the radius a bit and I think it'd be a really fun addition.

Definitely still want some sort of reworked trip mine too (attaching it to things again would be nice...).

I never thought about it working that way. I could see that being overused a bit making it a bit overpowered, but then again it might turn out great. Guess we'll have to see.

YES. And have more epic moments like in that "funtage" I made awhile back. Oh beta, how I miss thee.

Dani, I gave Winter Contingency a read, and I must say you did a fine job. :D

Also, good job on the site, and good luck with it in the future.
