Yeah I thought it was a shield overcharge rather than a bubble shield. You can just about see afterwards his shields look like the fizzle out, as if they are drained.

No idea, but after further analysis, it looks like only the elites have it, and it would mean two things. Elites have different armor ability loudouts or none at all.

Those are all that I saw.

K so after some thought I think that "Active Roster" is clan support or better yet team support. I think that with SP being about noble team, this Active Roster will be you and some buddies that play online customizing armor, setting your loadouts, and really playing as a team.

Gonna pretty awesome to have a Team of Spartans and just go wreck elites all day, or vise versa.

It looks that way, but sounds like a sticky grenade. My first inclination was that he threw a sticky on the ghost right after activating the shield.

Also, look at the icon, it is a shield shield shape with a lock on the inside. Doesn't give off the vibe of an explosive ability.

I felt the same way. Seriously my jaw was dropped and I couldn't close it. I have watched the video at least 20 times now, I have Lost waiting for me, hmm this is an awesome night.
 
We need more gifs! Or someone tell me which program to use to make the gifs and I'll make some!

This game is so incredible... This 1 1/2 minute trailer has SO much new information in it...

As for showing Head Hunter... What do you think it means when the Spartan died and dropped four skulls... Do you collect skulls, die, and then lose all the skulls you had collected?

It looks like someone also threw a frag grenade at the crouching dude. There's a lot going on at that exact second.

The lock icon might have something to do with the animation locking you in place? Total stretch, but I don't have a better idea.

Man, must've watched that video like 30 times already. Really mindblowing, not all blatently awesome but just sooo different. Really excited and at the same time a little afraid. Kinda like Shishka in that picture, but I'm sure it's for completely different reasons. Random thoughts and observations:

  • At :19 you can see that the grenade tosses have definitely returned to their Halo 3 ark.
  • Interested in seeing what role the phantom plays in Invasion.
  • Wondering what the point of Invasion slayer is. Seems to me it would require a shitton of balancing to make sure each side can slay equally and human vs covie seems to fit objective games much better. There are enough slayer modes anyways. I wanna jump into the invasion playlist to play unique one-sided objective matches not slayer with different skins.
  • Couldn't tell if elites were customizable. Think it'd be kinda dumb if they weren't, sure it wouldn't have to be as elaborate as the spartan customization but something on par with Halo 3's would be nice.

  • Elites can roll eh. The roll is pretty pathetic in distance and speed so I'm not sure why they'd ever use it. Must be something more to it we don't know.
  • Kinda worried about the grenade launcher. At one point the guy is carrying 7 shots with it yet it's a single shot weapon with a one-hit kill ability. Definitely not the bruteshot replacement I was hoping it'd be.
  • The assassination at :12 has me puzzled. It seems like we've caught it midway through but the spartans are facing eachother, does that mean there are front assassinations in MP or did the animation cause them to end up facing each other?
  • The anti-vehicle needler seems to be a missile pod replacement. I like the missile pod and don't see how this replacement improves anything. The homing seems to be more vigilant but the missiles move just as slow. Seems to be a three round burst, doubt it's semi-auto as the first and second bullet took 6 ammo off and the third took 7 off. You'd be able to unload a shitton of those if you could keep firing at that rate.
  • Jetpacks are fucking awesome. Hope it doesn't result in me running into invisible walls all the time though. If elites can use jetpacks...
  • The player name tag thing .seems to be like in those in ODST, four letters, maybe three letters and a number. Not too sure, just check see it at 1:07
  • Seems like radar jamming is an ability :)33)
  • The player at 1:24 doesn't have a radar. Could just be the gametype.
  • The two spartans beyond the window at 1:19 look different in size, could just be my eyes.
  • I said something about wanting a sentinal beam/quake lighting gun weapon in reach and funny enough the one at 1:20 could fit the bill. Radius seems a bit sloppy though.
  • My roommate suggested "active roster" means joining in-game. I hope to hell not and the evidence doesn't exactly point to that but just throwin it out there.
  • I think the game is just so different that the arena mode will be like a classic Halo mode. No loadouts and smaller, symmetrical maps. I'd be glad they're delivering something they wouldn't be otherwise but at the same time afraid they could be spreading the Halo experience too thin. Kinda stopping it from having a strong identity.

Tried to get a sense of how many maps were shown. Don't think they showed any map that wasn't in the Halo 3 beta before the beta launched so thought it could be worthwhile. Really hard to do given I don't know jack shit about the size or makeout of the map but I gave it a shot:
  • One of them is definitely the powerhouse level shown at X10.
  • Hard to tell if the invasion map with the brown cliff walls was not powerhouse. Mentions a smelter in a lot of the locations.
  • The scene at :18 seems rather dark so it might be a different map.
  • At 1:14 the map seems to be straight from the campaign footage we've already seen. "Barren Fields"
  • Some scenes (e.g. :22, :29, :41, :53, 1:24) look like a cleaner environment. A really vertical area labeled "Atrium" that reminded me of prisoner as well. Some of the locations read "CIC (Combat Information Center?) Hall", "Lower Conduct Room"

Graphics and animation look great. REALLY can't wait to read some explanations/clarifications for these things from the Bungie folk. Podcast can't come soon enough.

Headhunters in other games works just like that. It's a fun FFA gametype :).

Would "ARENA" be counted as a new gametype? Is it something along the lines of rocket Arena, or some subset of Reach's features designed for competitive play?

Because with the way this thread has gone page after page after page after page after page without ANY news whatsoever some of us have stopped checking it and would have completely missed this new trailer if there wasn't a new thread?

It's using a heavily revamped Halo 3 engine.

They discuss it in the last vidoc.

It's using a new engine... built upon the old engine, but it's so heavily modified that you might as well call it that.

I don't think joining in-game would be that bad of a thing with how many people quit matches. I also don't think that is what it is though. I don't think they would advertise something like that, seems odd to do.

They're doing the same thing they did for CE->2 and 2->3: they gut the engine and improve it all over, but reuse the basics so it's still actually Halo. That's how I understand it.

ermm.. That post is quite conflicting... I don't think you can build a new engine on an old engine. I am pretty sure what UltimaPooh said is correct.

The reticule is tiny, like normal, UNTIL he shoots. The first shot is accurate, but if he was to fire a 2nd shot right afterwards that would be much less accurate.
Which is as it should be.

For me all that video looked like was fun, with not just how much chaos was happening but the fact that it really all looked like controlled chaos. Looks like I won't put the game down for a looooong time based on that trailer.

Also thank god for Bungie making the Elites larger in MP this time around, just looks so much better that way.
 
Video is awesome, but has a very different vibe to it than Halo 3 does, Halo 3 seems pretty slow and methodical while the footage shown here makes the game look like Quake. Im guessing if they made a trailer of Halo 3 now though, they would only use frantic clips so fair enough. Still I loved the insanity and it would be fun.

It also seemed like someone was camping at 1.07 with the Nube Tube :lol, That thing looks like a rocket launcher! They need to tone that down or make it very uncommon :lol

Maybe its just my take on this trailer, but it seemed like a BETA trailer, not a Multiplayer trailer, so the headings are showing what we get to play May 3rd, which is pretty sweet. Maybe theres more to come in the final version!

I also wanted to say, with the new equipment, the jetpack is clearly visible, but I couldnt see a indicator that a enemy was using any of the other ones like camo, I really hope theres some visual armour perm for each perk.

Yeah man, not a spoiler at all. You already knew Claire is super-hot, right??

Back on-topic, this trailer made my nuts tingle (like Claire) it was so good. It looks like bungie have really listened to a lot of complaints regarding halo 3's stagnation (which I don't necessarily agree with, but nobody on my FL will play Halo any more). Spartans vs Elites looks like a great idea, I think I'm most hyped for that.

Does anyone know if the XP system is getting a tweak in this? The biggest complaint I've heard from my friends is that, compared to CoD (obvs), Halo can be very un-rewarding. I think that all players should be rewarded for playing and the winning team should be rewarded more-so. It's very demoralising to lose and have nothing to show for the past 10 mins of gaming, and even worse when your rank dips after a loss.
