Least favorite thing about Halo. The constant sprint to powerweapons and players on your team quitting out if the other team gets to the rockets/sniper first and gets a headstart.

I'm sure much of that will remain though. Loadouts are probably limited to equipment and maybe you get to choose secondary weapon or something. Doubt it will be MW2 levels of customization.

So what? Very few games still do this and I was glad that halo was still one of them.

But yeah, like ToyMachine said, we don't know anything about it yet, so maybe it's just about armor and abilities.

AA is a post effect. This is a beta mp test. AA would be non existent initially.

It's true Halo 3 beta didn't have any AA either and people said the final version would.

Turns out the final version of halo 3 was 640p with no AA.

I'm just hoping that halo reach will at least have 2xAA. I mean if remedy can do 4xAA with alan wake why can't bungie. Jaggies bother me a LOT, not so much in mp but singleplayer immersion gets ruined by jaggies.

AR still looks horrendous. Too much spray and pray in that video. Looks like clever video editing to make that floppy pistol look decent.

Is the "Invasion" thing for Firefight? Assassinations look horrendously bloated. Make it BTB only or something. I don't need an elaborate stabbing animation while I'm trying to grab the damn flag.

Need to see more mid-range weapons. I mean it just looks like Halo 3 with more bloat. I'll wait for the beta...

I am pretty sure load outs is referring to the different armor perms...

In the sequence with the load outs text there is:
Someone Cloaking
Someone Sprinting
Someone Jet Packing

I could be wrong though... I guess we will see May 3rd

Alan Wake is a linear experience. AA is much harder to do with open world and sandbox games.

Think about it. They aren't going to fucking let you put power weapons in your loadout. They have to be around the map. If you CAN choose weapons in your loadout it has to be very basic. Such as, start with an AR or a Pistol. Something like that. I still doubt it though.

And god damn it, my post about the weapon at 50 seconds in is on the previous page...Like I was saying it appears to have vehicle lock on so it's either the new Fuel Rod Gun, or a Covenant Rocket Launcher type thing.

They already said that you can just tap the melee button to do a regular one and get a regular assassination. Holding down the button will result in the assassination sequence.

It's interesting to me that there's an "Invasion" and also an "Invasion Slayer" gametype. Perhaps "Invasion" refers to Elite vs Spartan while "Arena" is Spartan vs Spartan?

I'm not sure about how loadouts will play, if they will be just for Armor Abilities, or include weapons, or if there will be some weird system where weapon choice controls armor selection, but we do see a weapon placed on a map in the vid at 0:26.

There's also a section called "The Arena" in the vid, I'm betting that this is some kind of "classic halo" mode with standard map control/power weapon gameplay.

but I am a sheep
Pretty sure if weapons were in loadouts you would see everyone running around with power weapons in that trailer. :lol

Bungie is not stupid. They wouldn't do anything like that to break the balance of the game. Even if it was configuring your starting weapon between a handful of guns they wouldn't be able to narrow it down perfectly. Can bet on AR/Pistol starts.

So can someone explain 'Loadouts' to me...and why people are thinking weapons wont just lie around...where do they come from then?

It came from random people guessing in this thread. Right now, the common idea as to what a "Loadout" includes is equipment and/or abilities. We don't know how many each Spartan, or Elite can use. But we've seen stuff like Jetpacks, Sprint, a new Bubble Shield, that forward roll, stuff like that. Just to reiterate...There is NOTHING that points to us being able to choose weapons in our Loadout. They aren't trying to compete with Call of Duty. They're evolving the Halo multiplayer formula.

You see, when a mommy weapon and a daddy weapon love each other very much...

Assassination animations aren't mandatory, they've already made that clear.

Nobody can explain, because nobody knows. (Well, outside of Bungie, anyway.) Folks can speculate for you - but that's about it.
What are the speculations? I am in the dark here.

You select your weapon of choice before the game, and that's what you spawn with.
Hmmm...not sure if I like that idea...either way game looks great.

So Devin you are speculating that the special abilities have a limit and you can use up to that limit...makes sense.

ShinAmano said:
Very helpful...again anyone care to explain?
Load outs I am sure is referring to armor perks. Not which weapon you roll out with.

I already said this but people ignored it...

Why would they show three different perks if they weren't referring to perks?

Damnit, Easy, you pointed out most of the things I was going to say. When I get back from a quick breakfast jaunt, I'm going to look at every weapon and equip that we've not seen. For the equip, I'm thinking that the ones we don't know (e.g. everything besides lightning) we ought to be able to deduce.

I agree on the AR part. The other thing that bothers me are the animations, they still look pretty much like halo 3.

I remember bungie talking how they created a new animation technique called gait blending where characters move realistically when they pivot and walking animation blend seamlessly into running etc etc. If it were really that apparent I would have noticed it in the video. Besides the death animation still look pretty silly.

Other than that, the way the shields flare up when taking damage is really subtle and awesome, the assassination moves are brilliant (really hope bungie doesn't remove them from mp), jetpacks are full of win and change the way the game is going to be played. A shame I didn't see the new falcon in action.

Very good point. So to reiterate...Loadouts DOES NOT MEAN YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHAT WEAPONS YOU SPAWN WITH.

And to reiterate another point...Assassinations are optional. You have to hold B to do them. If you just want to walk up and do a quick traditional melee like you always have in Halo, you just tab B like you always have.

It's nice to see that Bungie still remembers that King of the Hill exists. Perhaps we'll actually get to play Team King again?

Alan wake is still open world during the day time sequences. Besides the environments that they render in Alan wake are bigger than in reach. There are many open world games on 360 that do have AA. I wish they would stop using this excuse.

The last shot with the Spartan landing in front of the date seemed to look like a result of animation blending.

I hope they add AA also. I always thought that the only problem with 3 when it came out graphically was the jaggies. All the other things didn't bug me so much. With Reach, I like that they have added so many improvements, but really, Halo 3 + AA would've been fine with me.

Waving arm death animation > all other death animations.

As for the blending you can actually see it in a few places, but the video is cut so fast you have to go frame by frame. There's a really cool one early on where a blue spartan melee's a red spartan and lowers his bodyweight as he spins and turns out of it.

AR looked great to me, but I already like the H3 AR :D

Just watched the 720p version full screen and must say the game is looking great. The animations look stellar. Especially the shot of the guy getting sniped. The impact is really apparent.

Could you point this out for me in the video?

Spartans vs Elites mode sounds cool. I'm surprised it took Bungie 4 games to get here, somehow seeing 20 red and blue master chiefs running around killing each other always seemed silly to me.

Only Bungie has the power to make people wonder what the word 'loadouts' means. :lol

Look around the 0:45 mark. The guy getting shot goes down pretty cool.

That does look pretty cool, but I think that's just simple rag doll physics.

Btw I wish bungie would release some information about what we've seen in the trailer, like detailing the various game modes. I want to know the player cap.

This.

Also when we saw the Reach Alpha running at X10 I'm pretty sure we saw Brian pick up at least one weapon from the ground when he was running around Powerhouse.

I'm almost certain that 1:23 has what your looking for. Spartan's landing after their jetpack runs out from differing heights should have different animations.

"Loadouts" doesn't imply you can pick up ANY weapon, but I think it DOES imply you may be able to pick SOME weapons. You might choose your starts from DMR-Pistol, DMR-AR, AR-Pistol, Needle-Plasma or something.

Perfectly summed up all of my gameplay concerns... Intended or not, it comes across as awfully suspicious that the way the video is edited they're not letting us watch any extended firefights, just the final kill shots (over and over again... pistol, DMR, needle rifle - good for those of us who were concerned how the game would play in the SWAT hopper ). A Spartan takes the lift and is lining up the DMR and then... cut away. Sooo frustrating.

Did anybody else get an Engrish vibe from the trailer too, with all of the nonsensical words and super-dramatic music? Seriously, "Active Roster" and "The Arena" mean little to me in the context of the footage... Active Roster just shows a red team and a blue team, and The Arena seems to be a final showcase for maps, but simpler would have been better there I think, especially with all of the new stuff already going on.

I am also scratching my head trying to figure out what is going on in the early clip where the Spartans are facing each other and apparently "boxing" with their weapons holstered (minus any indication that either knows how to defend himself from the other's punch - guess hand-to-hand hit the chopping block in the streamlining of the S3 program). Along those lines, I didn't think any of the assassinations looked all that great. There's just something lacking there - remember the H3 vidoc where they talked about "punching through the fucking floor?" I think that sort of brutality is the missing something. These look too dainty.

1:16 is almost definitely a beam rifle, but it no longer seems to be a sniper with a different skin. It appears that you have to hold the beam on the target for an extended period of time, a tweak I am all the way on board with. No more brute plasma rifles.

The blurred out text may indeed coincide with a trip mine kill (the explosion sure looks like it), but all it says is "______ struck first" "_______ killed ______" so make of that what you will.

It sounds like I'm griping a lot. Don't get me wrong, some of the stuff in that trailer looks fucking awesome. Mostly Invasion:
5yrsx4.png

With each game in the series, I've found that bigger and bigger battles have become where the fun lies, and this game looks to be continuing the trend. I didn't get any real sense that the gunplay is going to bring back the magic of Halo 1 2 v 2's, but I did get the sense that CTF on Valhalla is going to pale in comparison to some of the Invasion action. I can live with that.

Beta's being worked on right now. All the footage here was taken from the Alpha build in various states. You'll see some warts, but we figured you'd excuse 'em for an early look. :)

No... It's still alpha. What we're going to play in May is the Public Beta which is the same as the Internal Delta. They aren't even at their internal beta yet; this is footage from an alpha build.
