Maybe it actually brings the invading team into the map. Sounds awesome to me, anyway...
Sounds awesome till you and your entire team get lasered from 5 miles away.

I don't think joining in-game would be that bad of a thing with how many people quit matches. I also don't think that is what it is though. I don't think they would advertise something like that, seems odd to do.
It's not the ability for games I'm in to get refilled when people quit that gets me, it's being thrown midway into a match that's halfway over and all but decided already. But you're right, whatever the roster thing is, it's a feature beyond the scale of joining midgame.

That the thing though about the trailer, the first time I watched it, it was only after clicking on it thinking it was a joke and watching half of it in windowed standard def did I slowly start realizing it was legit. I know Bungie's gotten into the habit of releasing trailers as "vidocs" but the music, the muted gameplay sounds, and out of context wordart titles just felt weird to me. Almost like they took the gameplay clips from a vidoc, but cut the developer commentary out of it. I doubt that's the case but I hope we get some context tomorrow for some of the stuff and if not they'll surely discuss it whenever the podcast hits.

WOW multiplayer looks awesome. Just bought ODST for the beta can't wait.
Graphics look pretty good for multiplayer, though the death animation really looks archaic.
Oh and I hope Bungie adds some AA and improves the framerate. Halo 3 jaggies cut my eyes.

And what if both teams get dropped like that?

Or maybe there's some sort of defensive system.

But all I want is to be able to pilot that thing. Just once:lol

No. Think wolfenstein. I think it will be 6 vs 6 for an objective type invasion game. So stop them getting to the beachhead, then stop them getting to the perimiter then stop then getting to the base and blowing it the fuck up.

The prospect of this and the inclusion of jetpacks has me very excited.

Looking good.

I do wish they'd move onto another IP now though, I really can't stand the Halo character design at all.

Then again, I'm not exactly the biggest Halo fan to begin with, so it's not like they're making these games for me.

He isn't aiming anywhere near his head?
Yeah, you're right. Problem is I was clicking the pause/play button to see the frames and it skipped right over the frames before that and the sound came out at the wrong time making it seem like he'd just fired. Hopefully the reticule is just an indicator of how long you have to wait in between shots.

Even without jetpacks, movement speed has seen a signifigant bump.

Or do my eyes decieve me?
I was thinking the same thing. My housemate thought the video looked sped up but I don't think that's the case and that rather the movement speed is faster. Personally I hope it's significantly faster than Halo 3.

Does anyone know if the XP system is getting a tweak in this?
I think it's really safe to say it'll be tweaked. It's a post-CoD4 world after all.

But now that you mention XP. There is a noticeable lack of points of xp for getting kills and completing objectives; something I wouldn't have mind seeing in the game. It'll be interesting to see if they decide to reward performance at all in the game and how they go about it. I can't imagine they wouldn't, maybe it's all post-game.

Anyways, reposting my thoughts then hitting the sack. Thanks Taiwan.

  • At :19 you can see that the grenade tosses have definitely returned to their Halo 3 ark.
  • Interested in seeing what role the phantom plays in Invasion.
  • Wondering what the point of Invasion slayer is. Seems to me it would require a shitton of balancing to make sure each side can slay equally and human vs covie seems to fit objective games much better. There are enough slayer modes anyways. I wanna jump into the invasion playlist to play unique one-sided objective matches not slayer with different skins.
  • Couldn't tell if elites were customizable. Think it'd be kinda dumb if they weren't, sure it wouldn't have to be as elaborate as the spartan customization but something on par with Halo 3's would be nice.
    hint hint
  • Elites can roll eh. The roll is pretty pathetic in distance and speed so I'm not sure why they'd ever use it. Must be something more to it we don't know.
  • Kinda worried about the grenade launcher. At one point the guy is carrying 7 shots with it yet it's a single shot weapon with a one-hit kill ability. Definitely not the bruteshot replacement I was hoping it'd be.
  • The assassination at :12 has me puzzled. It seems like we've caught it midway through but the spartans are facing eachother, does that mean there are front assassinations in MP or did the animation cause them to end up facing each other?
  • The anti-vehicle needler seems to be a missile pod replacement. I like the missile pod and don't see how this replacement improves anything. The homing seems to be more vigilant but the missiles move just as slow. Seems to be a three round burst, doubt it's semi-auto as the first and second bullet took 6 ammo off and the third took 7 off. You'd be able to unload a shitton of those if you could keep firing at that rate.
  • Jetpacks are fucking awesome. Hope it doesn't result in me running into invisible walls all the time though. If elites can use jetpacks...
  • The player name tag thing .seems to be like in those in ODST, four letters, maybe three letters and a number. Not too sure, just check see it at 1:07
  • Seems like radar jamming is an ability :)33)
  • The player at 1:24 doesn't have a radar. Could just be the gametype.
  • The two spartans beyond the window at 1:19 look different in size, could just be my eyes.
  • I said something about wanting a sentinal beam/quake lighting gun weapon in reach and funny enough the one at 1:20 could fit the bill. Radius seems a bit sloppy though.
  • My roommate suggested "active roster" means joining in-game. I hope to hell not and the evidence doesn't exactly point to that but just throwin it out there.
  • I think the game is just so different that the arena mode will be like a classic Halo mode. No loadouts and smaller, symmetrical maps. I'd be glad they're delivering something they wouldn't be otherwise but at the same time afraid they could be spreading the Halo experience too thin. Kinda stopping it from having a strong identity.

Tried to get a sense of how many maps were shown. Don't think they showed any map that wasn't in the Halo 3 beta before the beta launched so thought it could be worthwhile. Really hard to do given I don't know jack shit about the size or makeout of the map but I gave it a shot:
  • One of them is definitely the powerhouse level shown at X10.
  • Hard to tell if the invasion map with the brown cliff walls was not powerhouse. Mentions a smelter in a lot of the locations.
  • The scene at :18 seems rather dark so it might be a different map.
  • At 1:14 the map seems to be straight from the campaign footage we've already seen. "Barren Fields"
  • Some scenes (e.g. :22, :29, :41, :53, 1:24) look like a cleaner environment. A really vertical area labeled "Atrium" that reminded me of prisoner as well. Some of the locations read "CIC (Combat Information Center?) Hall", "Lower Conduct Room"

Graphics and animation look great. REALLY can't wait to read some explanations/clarifications for these things from the Bungie folk. Podcast can't come soon enough.

So looking at the assassinations, notice that the guy doesn't have a gun in his hand. Maybe you have to do something special to use it, like only have one weapon and press a certain button to do it. Although they didn't show any player views for an assassination.

Player views are from the third person perspective...I believe.

hmm, point taken. I don't remember being able to kill Covenant in Firefight when they were aboard the dropship (am I wrong?). Maybe something similar would be applied, and being dropped off in a secure area could further eliminate that problem.

Holy balls I'm now totally pumped for this game. For some reason the first thing that came to mind was Unreal Tournament. Man this game looks crazy.

Very skeptical of assassinations.
Loadouts, I wonder if that means I can spawn with a DMR or AR/Pistol depending on my choosing.. or is that more likely just armor ability spawns.

I also think that personal shield thing is the EMP strike I speculated on and not just a bubble shield.

Love the faster movement speed.

That Heavy recoil on the sniper will definitely change things.

Maybe its just the modes/clips shown, but I'm getting a more BTB vibe from everything.

These are the loadout icons I have seen and what I believe they are.

No idea, but after further analysis, it looks like only the elites have it, and it would mean two things. Elites have different armor ability loudouts or none at all.

Those are all that I saw.

Nice list, I saw that icon on a spartan aswell though at 1.13 where he rockets the capture point.

I might be the only one but with the inclusion of jet packs it reminds me more and more of Tribes which is awesome. Art style reminds me a bit of Tribes Vengeance even more so. Putting my two favorite FPS's together is a dream come true.

So I wake up, go to NeoGAF to learn that it's already here. Watch it, and am speechless.

What the hell? :lol

EDIT: Glad to see that the Gravity Hammer is back!

All right, so unexplained things I've noticed...

- "Invasion". I'm assuming this is a new mode.
- The gun being used around 50 seconds in. It's a Covenant weapon but I can't tell which.
- Those white balls falling out of some people when they die. I assume it ties into some mode.

Those white balls are skulls.

- Arena. Probably another new mode. Sounds like a more competitive MLG type thing.

Check the hud, it's an Elite's hud (little triangle in the health bar)
"Generator Destroyed" reported right after that double kill as well, must be the object with the red ring of icons, maybe an attack/defend node from Invasion?

Looked like flaming skulls to me :D

Edit: the only thing they are missing is that when a player with multiple skulls die, they all pop out of his corpse in the current video. The skulls should trail the player in a chain as he runs, like the old Quake mod. This way the guy with more to lose is a bigger target, much like FatKid from UT

Ah yeah, thanks for the image, not sure I like the idea of partitioning certain abilities but will have to see how it plays.

Did anyone else notice that with his double kill, two splatter medals also come up, the generator must have blown up and bits of it must have splattered the people standing there :lol

At 1.16 you see what looks like a beam rifle? Looks awesome but wouldnt this just share functionality with the sniper. Its weird it looks like its firing a continous beam like the sentinel beam.

Another thing I noticed, they dont have weapons on theyre backs! If some people have jet packs it would mean they couldnt show the secondary weapon.

Elite roll, I wonder if that's an armor ability, or if it's something else when using an elite. I also wonder if we'll be able to strafe roll like elites do in single player.

Definitely like what they're doing with equipment/loadouts.

Admittedly, I passed on ODST, but it seems like Reach is rectifying a lot of what I didn't like about Halo 3 equipment. I'm glad I won't have to go hunting for highly situational equipment that I lose on death anymore. The jetpack is the portable jump pad replacement, and at 0:24 in the trailer, it's definitely some kind of explosive anti-vehicle bubble used to replace the mine in Halo 3 (the dude crouches and stands back up after the explosion).

The Halo 1 pistol is always welcome, and the new weapons look great, but I hope the grenade launcher doesn't turn into a ridiculous OP noob tube, although I guess Halo's always its fair share of OP weapons like the rocket launcher and plasma sword. What I really want to see though is how the new plasma weapons hold up. I've heard a lot about them getting upgraded this time around, but all we see is the Needler (or is that a new Needler-type gun?), and I'm not even sure it gets fired in the trailer. There are a bunch of bright purple electrical beams flying around a few times, probably the Covenant sniper rifle.

So I guess i'm the only one who is concerned about the lack of anti aliasing?

I remember a lot of people complaining about halo 3 being a jagfest and Bungie saying
they would definitely improve on that aspect.

During the Headhunter sequence, you can see a spartan get domed by the Needle Rifle in the water basin on Powerhouse.

AA is a post effect. This is a beta mp test. AA would be non existent initially.

Looks awesome but I'm not too sure about the "loadouts" thing. I liked how weapons were just lying around. :(

I doubt weapons are a part of your loadout. Even if they are, I'm sure there are still going to be weapons around the map to pickup. I think the loadouts are more equipment and armor based.

As I've pointed out, that unidentified weapon around 50 seconds in...Seems to have vehicle lock-on. Ala the old vehicle lock on from Halo 2. So maybe it's the new Fuel Rod Gun, or just a straight up Covenant answer to the Rocket Lawn Chair.

And possibly manuever's based as well.

New bubble shield* in action
Awesome sequence

So it seems like having the new shield/bomb equipped puts a giant power pack on your back, and jetpacks are clearly visual. I like that, I like that a lot, hopefully there are also strong visual indicators for sprinting and camo.
