Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

You can really see Shadowrun's influence on this game. This looks like an amalgamation of all of my favorite multiplayer shooters of the past five years!

I think it's probably killed the player with a headshot you killed you previously. Well, there's a possibility it's that.

The loadouts will most likely only include things such as your jetpack or bubble shield abilities. Yeah, I bet its definite that the loadouts will just be the armor abilities.
As for the video itself, every time it switched to first person perspective I got hyped. This game will be great.
 
can anyone make out what the text says at 21 second? EDIT NVM, it's the player who struck first, and who he killed, possibly someone didn't want their tag shown because of all the jealous hate mail s/he'd receive.

I'm still wondering how the phantom will play out in multiplayer. Or if it's a tease for a firefight mode.

There's also something blurred out above the Spartan's head, who mounts and Elite for the assassination at 0:33. We need some CSI-style reverse pixelization.

Good eye. I spotted this earlier and I still can't think why it was blurred. More than likely it's something mundane or it's hiding a graphical bug or something.

Gamertags and other identifiers all use a brightly colour font and are clearly visible. This blur in particular is quite thin and there is no discernible text behind it hence why I'm willing to chalk it up to irrelevancy.

Don't mind being wrong though. Whatever it is, it was deliberately obscured.

I can certify that it is just a gamertag, it's also pink prior to the animation. Don't mind being wrong though.

I love that part in the original trailer. This game has the best looking skies ever. If the gameplay parts have such high quality skies, I'm guessing a LOT of the texture memory is used up by them. But it's worth it, it looks great.

Just watched the multiplayer trailer and it looks awesome. I never cared much for the music in Halo games, but the track in the trailer was great. Had an old sci-fi movie sound to it.
 
So does anyone else think the ViDoc was held off to be shown at GDC instead of a random Bungie update?

The first ViDoc was held off at first because of the media embargo but then was helf off further until X10. Do you guys think they will wait for GDC to show the new ViDoc?

Literally everything showed in the trailer looks amazing and shows off completely new stuff. Makes me laugh when people go "looks like Halo 3" when the whole point was to show stuff that was totally new. Cannot wait for the beta, and looks like everything Halo 3 should have been.

And do you guys think we'll be adding floating text to theater mode?

Nope on the text, it was just a trailer hack for Bungie doodz only.

I'm going to watch the 720p HD feed when I get home. I've watched it twice on my phone and once in SD before school. Time to get the full experience.

Yeah, the last clip in that segment you can see the shields crackling before the headshot kill, so the SWAT thing was wrong. I think it goes without saying that I'm glad I was wrong about that one.

Yeah, I mean it's just a "working title" (I mean, if you saw a page or two before that, I've decided I'm calling the office building Lysol, so yeah...). What would you call the maps? I'm pretty confident that they only show the four I listed: Powerhouse (water, lots of circular areas), Rock Garden (rocks and hills), Smelter (cranes and construction, epic scale), and Lysol (office building, vertical focus).
EDIT: Aesthetic arguments aside, the maps look pretty fucking awesome if you ask me.

I really liked what I saw in the new video. It seems like the gameplay is faster. The graphics look better than Halo 3 but I can understand why people say it doesn't seem that different from Halo 3. The art is so sterile and clean. I'm not complaining since I hate nearly every human map Bungie's artists have created over the years, but it's something that casual Halo fans can criticize.

I hate... HATE radar. That right there is the most disappointing thing in the video. I didn't expect them to remove it but... Fuck, it would be so good to see it gone.

Does the game having loadouts mean we can get into any of the matchmaking lists with a DMR/Pistol combo or maybe any variation of DMR/BR (assuming it's in there)/Carbine (assuming it's in there)Pistol/Sniper?

Loadouts means armour ability loadouts. Not weapons.

This gametype has been in Unreal games, whoever has the most skulls wins. You collect as you kill people and if you die all yours fall on the floor and the other guy can get them.

Not really lol. Bungie is about details. And he's right, they are dead. No need to flail the arms. The "wacky waving inflatable arm flailing spartan man animation" has to go. It really dates the game IMHO.

on another note. The new explosions look BOSS! I'm really liking the trailer and truth be told its getting me hyped.

Quick question - Does it not seem like teams are really close together?
That red team charging moment, during the Invasion text & the big battles.
Players seem to be really close to each other, even if they're in vehicles.

Just something that's been kind of bothering me since I first saw it..

Looking at the video again, I'm pretty sure that bubble shield is 1 part shield, 1 part EMP strike.
If you notice the burst seems to detonate some grenades on the ground in the left corner of the screen. Since it's a loadout, I think it is the perfect perk for vehicle haters. Or imagine if your team is locked in a base and getting warthog whored, you can just respawn with the EMP perk and turn the tables. Should make a great addition.

I picture the downside to this perk being either a depleted shield, or maybe the grenades you are carrying detonate, which would explain why the ghost explodes. It even kind of resembles the same spark/debris you see kicked up by the grenades.

21 Second mark BTW

I'd say that's just an 'art' choice. A cinematic ploy to make the action seem more intense. It showcases how much can possibly go on at once (probably not the limit). Realisticly there would rarely be that much on screen at once but I do believe it was ust Bungie compressing the action into a screenful :p

I love the effect the rocket makes when he shoots the generator. The way the blast even slightly knocks back the player who shot the rocket....damn this game looks so good!!!!

Aye. For the Halo 3 MP vidoc they had a dozen guys running around under one of the bases on Snowbound blowing each other up.
 
One thing I've noticed in past Halos, ODST included, is how everything looks smaller than it's "supposed" to be. In this video, however, everything looks "right" sized. It's especially noticeable with the Ghost, which actually looks heavy and dangerous- before, it always looked kind of like a toy.

Spartan IIs are big dudes. S-IIIs are normaler size. But everything does look more awesome.
