Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

I hope we get a better look at the maps come closer to the Beta and afterwards. There was no clear Valhalla type map in the video and I would be just a little disappointed if such a map was excluded.

It's been interesting seeing Bungie's design for a two base, open, large map evolve from Blood Gulch to Valhalla and I'm hoping we get to see the next take on the concept.

Err, that was a crappy picture, I even missed the guy in front of him.

New GIF, double size, half-speed.

I count 10 distinct dots. Not only that, but the dot in front of the player is consistent to the radar. Is that how the H3 jammer works? Does the H3 jammer just add dots to a legit radar? Or does it completely flub it?

I keep trying to do a frame by frame to see if I can pick out the different maps being shown, but i just watch it through to the end because it's so goddamn awesome.

So far though, I think I've got three

Human office complex - The map with mancannons, and crisscrossing walkways. Very clean and futuristic looking. So clean it almost looks fore-runner. It's got a ton of verticality (re: mancannons!) and the CQB areas look like they are really open for tight fights.

Power house: A mixture of industrial and natural designs. This map looks huge and fairly segmentented. The basin with water is an obvious hill location, and it looks like there are some small rooms for CQB, flags and other objectives. it also seems to have a signifiant outdoor portion. Check out the ROcket the generator scene, you can see the main sctructure a good distance away.

Construction zone: This map is defined by the large areas of unfinished construction. It also seems to have a lot of verticality, with spaces for infantry in the skeletons of buildings above, while vehicles spar down below. It's where most of the vehicular play seems to happen on the map, the tank scenes, the covie antivehicle thingy etc.

It looked like 2 out of the three maps were very large, so I'm wondering if part of the "Arena" wil be that it carves smaller spaces out of these large maps to have tight games.

Where is the height gone? Unless they are all conveniently on the same level as you...

Yea, the jammer in H3 floods it with false positives.

Yeah but with false positives that were moving very very fast, this seems to flood it with things moving at the same given speed of actual targets.

3 possibilities.. 1. Radar Jammer is in. 2. Ten players per team. 3. Unbalanced game-type shown (i.e. Zombies).
I'm going with #1.

4.... 4 possibilities..

Am I imagining things or is one of the maps shown a High Ground remake? (Or at least has very similar parts)

Sorry if it's been covered been busy/tired all week so I kinda missed out on the discussion in here when the video hit.

Looks crazy btw, looking forward to the beta even more now.

I think 10 players could be a possiblity, I don't know if anyone did a count but it certainly seemed like there were alot of people playing most of the time. Maybe it was just because they were bunched together alot though.

I think it is just a jammed radar... Not to put to much weight on information that could quite likely be false but.
"The sprinting makes you run when you hold LB, cloaking makes you invisible (when you cloak your radar jams and you can’t really hear anything around you)."
- via Tom Morello (pretty much everything else this guy said was right...

So it seems very likely that all that is happening here is while the player is cloaked his radar is jammed. While that doesn't disprove the fact that there could well be more then 16 players now. I think it helps prove that this is merely a jammed radar.

I hope that made sense!

Sweet! Looks like my thinking on the layout was pretty good afterall.

Its how it works in Halo 3 aswell, thing is we only know that your radar gets jammed if you use camo I want a dedicated radar jammer you can use on ememys, that will be excellent on something like CTF, to make it worth using perhaps it could distort enemies hearing aswell.

Dude, regardless of the video's quality, they're our rivals. Therefor the thing sucked balls.

I still hope there's some form of Bumper Jumper available in Reach.
I would be able to handle moving the melee back to the face buttons but gotta keep jump on LB.

Folks, any chance we can get four HaloGAFers for some friendly competition?

Hey, I brought up the SNF FH vs HaloGaf idea over at Forge Hub and the rest of the staff loved it, So I've officially been given the go ahead to do this. So what I need now is a four man HaloGaf team and a rough time and day you guys would be available to play then we can organize from there.

If you're wondering how this event works I'll give you some details, we play three games we choose one map/gametype you choose two, if we tie its Forge Hub choice of a slayer map/gametype. Then we do a write up for our front page with details of the game and some pictures example.

Up for it?

And I love that rocket explosion so much, the effects look spot on, and how the player gets kicked back by it, you can even see his legs come up. I will be one of the guys not playing the game objective at all during the first day of the beta. Will just be running around looking at every detail and experimenting with everything, sorry in advance about that.

LMAO i was gonna do the same thing

I'd say that's the best overall analysis of the MP trailer I've seen.

Comes from Hoovaloov, from Tied the Leader.

Made me think a lot about the giant words. :lol

Great analysis! the secret sound fits perfectly with the new plasma launcher

I'm pretty sure its one in the same, in that everyone's radars are jammed within range of a cloaked player. Would make sense since you'd be more cautious of a cloaked player nearby now that your jammed radar would flip out. I think a camo'd, radar jammer would be extremely sweet for CTF, along with basic sprint.

Gah, you're going to make me go through the trailer and check aren't you.

OK FINE, I'll watch the awesome trailer a couple more times.

Edit: It was just me. Put it down to tiredness and the like.

This map looked to be a re-envisioned version of High Ground to me at a glance, probably not though looking at it more closely. Alot of the areas in this map do have a similar aesthetic to High Ground though.

I am up for it... Assuming it happens between March 20th - 29th. Otherwise I am here at camp and the internet is nowhere near stable enough to play on.

Good luck GAF!

Be wary guys. The amount of time they spent twiddling their thumbs trying to align objects in Forge has probably made them incredibly quick at actual Halo.

didn't help me - i'm out

remember to pick a GAF map for your choice

I'm down. One of our games must be hallway. If you and five are both playing it'll be a guaranteed win. (no matter how much you hate it, Dani, you know we would win)

I still don't know how you manage to run across the way without getting your faces blown off, but damnit... you do.

It's also a great excuse for me to finally get a game of Hallway! <3 Hallway

Yeah, that's ridiculously similar to High Ground. Just look at the rocks in the background. It looks like that map is set on the exact same hill that the base on High Ground was set.

I suppose the jammer combined with active cammo makes it slightly more useful, but I would much rather the effect be that your radar stays the same and on the enemy team's radar display your dot disappears. But oh well.

I'm not convinced that the image you guys have shown is actually the radar jammer. If it really is combined with active cammo, that would make sense though.

I'm getting online now if people still need an extra for some halo3, but Im probably gonna be heading out to grab some dinner within the next hour or so.

EDIT: Nevermind. I'm not thinking properly. If that was not a radar jammer, that would imply 10v10 games or something. Or perhaps that's not a regular multiplayer game. Who knows.

Great analysis. I love the subliminal messages in the Active Roster section. He skipped over a few vehicles we know about (Falcon, Mongoose), and didn't touch on the (4, if I'm right) maps that have now been confirmed. Other than that, awesome. What was up with that "Noble 6" text in the sniper display?!?

Did he or any other TTL guys do an analysis of the first ViDoc? If so, I'd love to see it.

Uh, I'm pretty sure the map we saw in the trailer was all from Powerhouse, maybe one other.

Anyways, that analysis was awesome. I can't believe I missed that much even though I've already seen it a hundred times.

Im up for it, but if you want people who have been around for longer then I guess im out :lol

Deputy Moonman I dont think you jam theyre radar when you use invis, it jams yours to balance it out, I would assume?

ewww i will be avoiding the cloak then. Not sure why an armor ability would have to be balanced out, since everyone gets to choose which one they want.

Huh, you're right they do look pretty much the same. I'm way too tired to be speculating on this stuff. But if this ends up being a High Ground remake I'd just like it to be noted that I CALLED IT. Cheers.

LOL I completely forgot how we are versus TTL.

Edit: I am sure it has been covered but do we have access to the music from the MP trailer?

Right, easy way to do this, I'll give everyone 6 hours and 40 mins from the time this specific message is posted.

Then I'll assign you all a random number (based on how many folks want to play). I'll get a random number generator (or d20) and the first four numbers (ignoring repeats) will be selected with a few substitutes just in case.

You should then either PM each other or have a chat over Live to decide when you are all free and choose 1 map and 1 gametype (make sure you choose a map created by HaloGAFer). Then we'll contact Forge Hub and see where we go from there. Fair enough? Everyone that wants to play get a fair chance at it.

Here's what I purpose:
Ber Ber
Mulitflag, 3 caps with 5 sec returns
Br and smg starts

Anyone against this is against fun.

Urk said that he would see what he can do about that, but at this time, no, we don't have access to the music in the trailer.
