Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Watched Legends again with my Fiance, and she watched the last few she hadn't seen.

Explaining to her the Spartan program, she wound up extremely disliking Dr. Halsey, despite her feeling remorse for her actions. I found this interesting because she is right - the books make us understand what she went through, and go so far as to explain her moral dilemma "at the expense of a few", but it still doesn't matter what she did to kids.

Running 4-6 year olds through training camp to make them forget their families? Messed up. Flash clone children and make the parents suffer? Still messed up. As far as I can recall, Halsey had done nothing to atone for these things - other than make Mjolnir the best that it possibly could be, and even then, only MC had an AI on board because the Pillar of Autumn crashed.

As much as I love Dr. Halsey's character, the more I reflect on the events of the Spartan program and the CONTINUED status of the program (she definitely wanted to start a second class, though I believe SIIIs were commissioned without her knowledge), makes me think she didn't learn her lesson.

I've been working on a Reach FAQ for those newly interested in the game. Did I miss any questions that are being asked again, and again, and again?

Question: Reticule Bloom? Do we lose accuracy with while firing guns now?

Answer: That is correct, though accuracy degradation happened somewhat in every Halo game, it seems like it will play a larger role this time around.
suggestion

Answer: Reticule Bloom, although hidden from the player, is found in every Halo game. With Reach you are not losing accuracy, you are gaining a visual representation of the accuracy degradation as a tool to aid in weapon mastery.

Or it's actually as the answered it. I doubt that it's going to matter more just because we see the reticle bloom now.

It's going to help my game immensely. I am always firing off shots way too quickly and having most miss their target. Now i can get the timing right and have every bullet count.

Besides, the question is "Do we lose accuracy (as compared to previous Halo games)?" the first answer didn't actually answer the question.

It will separate the men from the boys, especially with the DMR.

I know the H:CE pistol would lose some accuracy if you held down the trigger, but I thought BR's in H2 and H3 always had the same spread/accuracy no matter your rate of fire. That's why I said played a larger role, so maybe I'll put down some added speculation.

How about this instead?

Answer: Reticule Bloom, although hidden from the player, is found in every Halo game with certain weapons. It seems like it may play a larger role this time around, but mostly reticule bloom is mostly used to provide a visual insight into existing aim degradation.

Halo Reach Speculation FAQ

SANDBOX questions

So you just watched that awesome vidoc, or that awesome MP trailer and you find yourself excited about Halo again. Awesome, welcome back, we of the Halo community are glad to have you.

But some things you saw may have confused you, and that's cool, you don't pay the same kind of attention to this shit that we the Halo-obsessed do. So before you post a question about how you don't understand something, just check this quick FAQ to see if your question has been answered already.

Question: Is it true that I can sprint now? Like Modern Warfare?

Answer: Yes you can sprint, but it takes some explanation. Sprint is one of a set of selectable abilities known as "Armor Abilities." You can sprint, but you'll be giving up on the ability to cloak, engage a short term shield, or fly around in a jetpack.

Question: JET PACKS!?

Answer: Fuck yeah!

Question: Those assassination animations are cool, but they will suck if everyone is constantly doing them. Am I forced to do them?

Answer: In every Halo game, a rifle butt to the back of the head will down a player in one hit. That hasn't changed this go around, but now there is an extra option to go into an extended animation. In most situations, it would be faster to just melee for the kill like every other Halo. These animations are also interruptible, unlike say the GoW 1 chainsaw.

Question: Wait, huh? If there's a faster way to pull that off, why would anyone ever do the higher risk Assassination move?

Answer: Humiliation of your opponent, possibly pushing spawn about a bit longer, but mainly just humiliation.

Question: What will the BR be like?

Answer: Most likely it's gone. Instead we have the DMR which is useful at longer ranges, and is semi-automatic instead of burst-fire. Some call it the Redeemer, or the Deemer, or the Donger. I dunno, but I'm sure you'll hear some variation of those names when a 12 year old headshots you with it.

Question: What does it mean that the weapons are now hitscan?

Answer: Hitscan just means that the bullets have infinate speed in the game world, in other words, they hit instantly where you point the trigger. Halo 3 simulated the travel of all bullets, which adds to the simulation, and makes weapons require more skill. Unfortunately it makes lag a bigger factor, and can make gun fights feel more random. Halo 2 had hitscan weapons. Covenant weapons for the most part still have travel times.

Question: Weapon sounds in the MP trailer seem really weak. WTG bungle :(

Answer: Sounds were muted in the trailer, revel in the glory of the new weapon sounds here.
AR http://www.bungie.net/images/games/r...ault_Rifle.mp3
DMR http://www.bungie.net/images/games/reach/audio/DMR.mp3
Crazy covie weapon in trailer, http://www.bungie.net/images/games/r...io/Mystery.mp3
Frag http://www.bungie.net/images/games/reach/audio/FRAG.mp3
Plasma http://www.bungie.net/images/games/r...ma_Grenade.mp3
Sniper http://www.bungie.net/images/games/r...iper_Rifle.mp3

Question: Is the Halo CE Pistol back?

Answer: Nope, but instead we are getting a new pistol that will hopefully be more effective than the other varients of the pistol, but not super powered like the CE pistol. The final balance of the weapon won't be known till the final game, but we should get a good idea from the Beta in May.

Question: Is Dual wielding back?

Answer: Dual wielding is dead.

Question: That Falcon looks awesome, can we fly it?

Answer: Yup.

Question: Reticule bloom? Do we lose accuracy with while firing guns now?

Answer: That is correct, though accuracy degradation happened somewhat in every Halo game, it seems like it will play a larger role this time around.

SINGLE PLAYER

Question: Am I the Master Chief in this game?

Answer: Nope, you are a different generation of Spartan, in a different service of the military. There are big story pieces that explain those differences, but they would run too long for this FAQ. Read "Ghosts of Onyx" and the "Headhunters" Story in Halo evolutions to learn about the Spartan III program that generated your character.

Question: Are Brutes or the Flood coming back?

Answer: We have seen pics of Brutes being modeled, and we have seen the Gravity Hammer. No clue about the Flood, we'll see on that one.

MULTIPLAYER

Question: I heard that the MP maps are all pulled straight from SP, is that true?

Answer: Yes, though some of the MP maps were designed for combat, then added to SP. We'll know more about how that works out soon.

Question: Loadouts? Like MW 2?

Answer: Right now loadouts are thought to be focused on those Armor Abilities, and it may include weapons. We'll learn more when the Beta hits.

Question: How do I get in the Beta?

Answer: Put the ODST Campaign disc, select Intel, and download it on May 3rd. Used copies will work, it's not a code, it's attached to the disc. MS has also begun a campaign to give out Beta codes to Halo 2 players before H2 is turned off.

Fixed a few things for you, grammar/spelling wise =)

I could actually stream the games. Might make me lag too much though... I'll think about it.

Maybe I'll stream later tonight and see how it goes with my connection.
Record the games but don't stream them.

Optimal dong and everyone can see it eventually.

Probably because they got to play Reach. Why else would they spontaneously post something like that in this thread?

Thanks, I'll incorporate the changes and post it back here. Anytime someone want's to post a Reach thread, they are welcome to use all or part of it, so we don't have a thousand people asking "YOU MEAN I CAN'T MELEE IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD"

There's no indication that it will play a larger role this time around - just that it will be visible. The AR, SMG, Plasma Rifle and Pistol and others all had the same effect (here's the AR in Halo 3). This goes back to the first Halo game. So while it's possible that Bungie is emphasizing it more, you should probably note that's speculation; it would be more accurate to say the Bungie has said the accuracy degradation will be visible in Reach.

Post-patch, there was zero spread in the BR in Halo 2.

Hey guys. Are they turning off Halo 2 or just Xbox 1?

Like, is there now a deadline to how much longer we can play Halo 2 online? Or is the deadline just for playing Halo 2 online while using an original Xbox?

Connectivity for all original Xbox games is being turned off, regardless of whether they're being played from an original Xbox or a 360.

In Halo 3 only the AR and the SMG had any kind of aim degradation. No other Human weapons had the effect. On the Covie side, only the Carbine had really minor aim degradation. In Reach it also effects what will probably be some of the most important weapons in the game, the DMR and the sniper.

That sounds to me like it's playing a larger role.

Of course, Some people who have played it could solve this argument... hint hint.

I'm fairly certain the Spiker, Plasma Rifle and Pistol all feature it, at the least.

I'm curious now though. I'll check tonight for the heck of it.

Unless you can keep playing it beyond this weekend, I assume you will be going through a very nasty withdrawal. When they took the H3 beta away from me, I remember feeling as if a girlfriend had broke up with me.

:lol so true.

I had all my saved games recorded onto a VHS which was about 2 hours long.

I'd sit there before work every morning and drink my coffee while watching a game or two.

OT: nok, how is this monitor for everyday pc monitor use? I am looking for a dual monitor setup that is either 22" or 24".
I use it as my only monitor right now. While not quite as good as the iMac screen my GF uses (nothing is) it is great for computer and 360 use, and as a second monitor for a laptop. Having a TV tuner built in makes it perfect for students, although the quality is a bit lacking from TV sources. For movies you seem to get better picture and colour quality playing a DVD from your computer than from an external DVD or HDTV sources.
