The VGAs were indeed terrible, Fragula.

Oh, and I guess the Hornet won't be in Reach? The new helicopter actually looks like a plausible vehicle unlike the Hornet which felt like it was shoehorned in at the last minute. Have I ever bitched about the Hornet? Because it's terrible. Especially the first person viewpoint and lack of animations when riding on the side of it.

I like that they're using different accents this time around. That was a stroke of genius in the "we are ODST" ad for that game, and the game universe should build on it.

The day after, my initial criticisms of the cinematic are just kind of falling by the wayside. Graphically and stylistically, it's just a giant bucket of awesome. Can't wait for the MP reveal next month.

The music track is interesting; sounds like an evolution of one of the ODST themes (the one used in the Firefight vidoc). I think it's a little out of place - it's this aggressive, rumbling theme that builds up rapidly, when there's nothing especially climactic happening at all - but it's got a harder edge to it than much of the music from the trilogy. Interested to see the direction it goes in, ie monks or no monks.

The sniper Spartan talks right before they take off. Definitely is a guy, but I can't tell what the accent is. I'm terrible with that. :(

Monks are for Halos. I hope there's monks, cause I'd love to see a Halo (I dream I know). A legendary ending with the Pillar of Autumn closing in on 04 with the monks starting their chant would be epic.

And there were monks in the E3 debut trailer. I'm assuming they're in, but I was surprised there wasn't at least reference to a classic Halo theme in the music. Not a complaint, just an observation. As ODST proved, that's not a bad thing.

I'm monk agnostic.

Do you think these guys are spartan II's or spartan III's? Their designation numbers suggest that they are SIII's. 0259 and such is a far cry from the original 130 first spartans that was made for sII. All the spartan II's have numbers ranging from 000 - 130 correct?

Jorge's number is 052.

Also, they mention the "Lone Wolf" is a survivor of Pegasi where there were only Spartan III's. So there's at least one Spartan III.

Most likely all of these Spartans that we see in this trailer will die. However, there are other Spartans alive even after the events of Halo 3.

Nope. Some of them made it underground, under the mountain facility before the glassing of the planet

These are not they. I don't think any of these Spartans have been shown in the books yet.

From the beginning, you know the end.

I'll be surprised if they didn't, but since they're apparently a new set, the canon can be molded any number of ways.

I was speaking in general to the amount of spartans that is on the planet total. Not just this group. Not all of them will die.

I've recently expressed my distaste for the Hornet in this thread. It needs to go.

For me, Halo 3 graphics (+ filters) looks better than this trailer/cinematic. The new engine may be more technically advanced, but I still prefer this kind of graphics:

The rich color palette was one of the many things that separated Halo from all other gritty, boring and mediocre shooters out there, and sadly, it seems like it´s missing from Reach. Halo 3 level graphics (pretty colors included) + 720p + AA + AF + global dynamic shadows + better character models = Amazing. They should have aimed for that, IMO.

Well, It´s just a cinematic, so let´s hope the final game looks more pretty and colorful.

PS: The animation looks really great. I´m glad Bungie is (finally) using mocap for the cinematics :)
 
The only thing particularly vibrant about that screen is the red and blue, and whatever Reach's multiplayer turns out to be, it seems unlikely Bungie would lose the red versus blue dynamic of multiplayer.

On the whole, muted/dreary/washed-out colour palettes help games graphically. cf. Gears, Killzone. Also, the fall of Reach is one of the most muted, darkest chapters in Halo lore, so it makes sense.

Once the bright purple of the covenant weapons and vehicles come into the game you'll have your colour back.

I'm glad they are mixing things up, the Halo series has got stale in my opinion. 4 Halo games now, and how much have they changed? Not much.

Something tells me that the color purple will still be in the game. And blue. I wouldn't fall off the bandwagon yet dude. ;)

Jorge is probably a Spartan-II. He's larger than all of the others in the trailer and probably about the same size the Chief is.

It will require more that to make me buy into the Halo series. I have not played Halo since the first came out really. I played enough to know I did not like them and that was it. I really think Bungie needs to move on and give Halo a break for awhile. I think they are getting burned out on it. I am hoping they will have their next project as a multiplatform release I would like to see what they could do with a PS3. The vids do look good for Halo Reach though. It is to early to even know how good it will be.

That thing was a trooper, like 5000 people watching it and it didn't lag at all.
I linked it a bunch of times on the chat, your fault for ignoring me. :p

The gif is from the OT, the video in doing the rounds on the funny videos sites, but those contain lots of nudity and other nsfw content, so I'd rather not risk a ban. Trying to find it on youtube. (edit- here, basically the gif but with audio)

I was thinking the same thing. It looks nice, for sure, but it is not on the same level as CG.

Do we know who is writing the story for this game?

I originally thought it was just going to tell the story from the Fall of Reach novel, but if these Sparans in the trailer are not Spartans taken from that novel I assume that the game will be telling a different story (I know it's set during the Fall of Reach novel, but will obviously show different events than those covered in the novel).

I hope they get a real quality writer on board because Bungie have the opportunity to tell an amazing story here with a lot of emotional resonance if they get it right. I imagine we'll grow quite attached to this squad of Spartans and it would be cool, and add a lot of emotional weight, to see most of them die.
I hope they don't cop out and have all of them make it to some underground facility and survive.

Yep. I just watched it again (6 or 7th time lol) and after the initial wow of the new look settling in, I find myself noticing little things more and more. Really trying not to go into hyperdrive here, its tricky though.
