The only thing particularly vibrant about that screen is the red and blue, and whatever Reach's multiplayer turns out to be, it seems unlikely Bungie would lose the red versus blue dynamic of multiplayer.
I could post more of Halo 3 images to exemplify my point, but really, from what we´ve seen in the cinematic, it seems obvious that the color palette is not nearly as rich and/or vibrant. And I don´t like that, at least, not in Halo (if I wanted to play games with ugly brown/grey graphics I´d play Gears of Killzone 5: Monochromatic Warfare 3, or wathever)
As I said, I´m hoping it's just that cinematic and the final game has much more color.
It will require more that to make me buy into the Halo series. I have not played Halo since the first came out really. I played enough to know I did not like them and that was it. I really think Bungie needs to move on and give Halo a break for awhile. I think they are getting burned out on it. I am hoping they will have their next project as a multiplatform release I would like to see what they could do with a PS3. The vids do look good for Halo Reach though. It is to early to even know how good it will be.

So you only played some of Halo CE yet you know you hate Halo and that Bungie are burnt out? Yet saying that you like Bungie enough to say you want them to make a ps3 game.

I hope they get a real quality writer on board because Bungie have the opportunity to tell an amazing story here with a lot of emotional resonance if they get it right. I imagine we'll grow quite attached to this squad of Spartans and it would be cool, and add a lot of emotional weight, to see most of them die.

Seriously though, you people that are complaining about the lack of color and whatnot: this isn't the WHOLE game. This was one environment. Wait to see what else there is. I'm sure you will get the color you are looking for.
And people are failing to realize that the Spartans are HEADING STRAIGHT INTO IT. :lol

In-engine cutscene from somewhere towards the beginning of the game. It's debatable whether or not the game will look that good once you're in control of it.

Can people stop using the term "CG" like idiots please. The term you're probably looking for is "pre-rendered" from the in-game engine, just as Uncharted's cutscenes were and so forth. The fact everything is completely anti-alised is the dead giveaway.

Maybe it's just because EVA is the only armor I use in Halo 3, so now seeing my armor with badass facepaint and grenades strapped on, he looks like he's ready to fuck shit up. :lol :lol

There were parts in Halo 3 where it was overcast too, and the colors were still more vibrant...

Seriously people, calm down. Giving your opinion about the color palette used in the trailer/cinematic is perfectly fine, no need to get so defensive or anything.
This shot from Bungie.net is probably more representative of what in-game will look like, but once again run through their screenshot function that smoothes out and anti-aliases everything. I agree that this main-character might as well be an ODST he is so monotone though. Think they went a bit too far removing the colour on him.
I thought ODST was nicely dark. Even in daylight it felt a little grainier/washed-out than Halo 3 proper. If Reach is around that level, I'll be quite happy. I think Bungie's art design and aesthetic choices are improving steadily as the series goes on.
It would be impossible for it to be Linda since she was part of Master Chief's space part of the operation. After that she was "dead" and put in cryo.
As for the Lone Wolf, best guess is, since he's a survivor of Pegasi, he somehow escaped and was rescued since Tom just assumed nobody was left alive.

If you read my post a little more carefully:

And he's not sharpening it, he's cutting himself because he sucks so much. Lad's too inbred and brain addled to remember he's wearing armour. He probably smells too.
He is missing some armor pieces if that is Mk IV. Like where are his shoulder guards? And why isn't he wearing the standard helmet. You know the one MC has with the shade guard above the visor. Bungie really fucked us on the whole consistency thing.
i paused the vid there last night and thought the same thing :lol
the lighting is really REALLY outstanding in this cutscene. the long shadows cast from the spartans from the overhead shot as the approach the heli's especially. i sure hope its the same in game and not just added into the cinematics.
the engine looks like the halo 3 engine turned to 11. there is noticably more polys in the nevironments, MUCH more "decorators" (the grasses), awesome faces now (yes, i think they look awesome), and crazy good lighting.
we also better have grenade chain reactions in this

Halo 3 was ugly, in the sense they redesigned and over designed a lot of stuff, especially the Covenant. Grunts, Brutes, overall Covie architecture (Halo 3's High Charity had awful design IMO). They used too much color for the human stuff. I can understand color for Covenant and Forerunner (since it "alien" stuff you know), but not for humans.
ODST was a step in the right direction. There was color, but it wasn't as if a rainbow threw up on everything. Plus, it just looked right. It was what you would expect from a war torn, futuristic city in an arid region. There was proper use of shapes and angles, desaturated colors (browns, grays), along with the atmospheric/ hazy effect and the static in the ODST's HUD. ODST was a masterpiece in regards to the art cohesive and solid art direction and the wonderful music. The game play was great too, just wish it was longer, and had more things to do at night, besides go from point A to point B. But still, a great game.
Reach is looking great so far too. Hopefully Lehto and co. keep up the good work with the aesthetics.
EDIT
One more thing. I hate when devs change how things look in games and don't give a good reason. For instance, when they changed the MC's pads on his hands, Bungie's claim was that it simply "looked cooler". That's not a good enough reason. If a character's design changes from one game,to another, at least put SOMETHING in the game that indicates as to why the design changed.
In Halo 3, When MC fell off Truth's ship, he could have burned off the pads, or they could have shattered. When the Marines found him and did the diagnostics on him, they could have brought a new set of pads or something like that. At least it's something to that puts some thought behind the design and makes the change in style (as well as the story) more coherent.
When the MC's design changed in Halo 2, they had a sequence where he was getting his armor replaced. What was even better was that they tied that in to the initial tutorial and controls setup. Very nice touch.
In my opinion, EVERYTHING, should be done for a (good) reason and have some sort of explanation or indication of thought behind it. It shows a lack of intelligence and sense of what one is doing, when someone claims they did something just for the sake of doing it. It bugs the hell out of me.
Not directed towards Bungie, just saying in general

I played Halo CE for a long time I really enjoyed the game. I only played some of Halo 2 and 3 and did not like them as much as the first. I do have an Xbox 360 I just don't play Halo no need to get upset. I do enjoy other games that the 360 has such as ME, Gears, and Multiplatform games that run better. I want Bungie to make a multiplatform game so I can see what they could do with both systems. We already know what they can do with the 360. I would also like to see what other company's on either side can do with the other system. It is called spreading the love. Bungie has said themselves they would like to work on other projects other than Halo. No my user name has always been L-A-I-N it is the same on N4G.

Didn't Frankie mention that armour version wasn't directly tied to its appearance? So that the casing and shape of their Mjolnir reveals nothing about whether it's mark IV, V or whatever, and that its the internal components that change?
Anyway, If someone thinks I am nitpicking for mentioning my thoughts on the color palette, think otherwise. I always loved colorful graphics, and this generation has been somewhat disappointing for me (graphically) precisely for that reason. Too many browns and greys for my taste. The color is one of the many reasons why I love Halo (and Mirror's Edge, but that's another story) so that's why mention it. If I didn't love the series so much I wouldn't care, right?
Anyway, I too think the final game will have more colors. Hell, even the Tom Morello screens had more (blurry) colors, so yeah, I think it's because the dark and menacing setting used in the trailer, more than anything.
That is annoying. You're not in a physical place that you're constantly leaving. Please, stop doing that.
I've always done that in every forum I've ever posted, and nobody has ever complained (maybe it's a Gaf thing, or something) but feel free to keep complaining, because I´m not going to quit doing it.
I hate to sound like a negative Nancy. I'm usually more critical of games that I like. I like them so much, I look at them much deeper than games that I think are just okay.
