Remember anyone within the UNSC can be a sIII.
Wrong. The Spartans III's were kids selected from specific gene pools according to the genetic augmentations that were going to be given to them.
I'll accept the fact that the Lone Wolf guy is a possible Spartan III they decided to give MJOLNIR armor after they recovered him from Pegasi. Hilarious to think that if it is a Spartan III the guy behind that armor would only be around 17 years old :lol

Well I was underwhelmed by the trailer yesterday but I think a lot of that was sitting through the 2 hours of shitty VGAs to get to it. I'm downloading the 720p version now, excited to give it a run through that isn't in a crappy web stream.

Looks great. The writing is absolutely fine, given that there are only a few lines of dialogue. It's a long way off still, and I'm very excited.

has there been any discussion on who the spartan is they are off to rescue?

That's what I though too, but the ODST license plates are leading to confusion. They suggest that Carter is Noble Leader and Kat is Noble One. Also, which of your posts are you referring to?
This one. Maybe the license plate thing isn't a sure thing?

By the way, I have come to a few conclusions of what we can probably expect at the start of the game, which I am assuming follows shortly after this cinematic. I went back and watched the first trailer, well more like listened, and figured a couple things out after now seeing the new trailer.

So here is what we
might
know:
After watching the newest trailer we have now been introduced to Noble Team. It is made up of 6 Spartans, and one of which appears to be the player's character (the Lone Wolf). Then there is the commander named Carter, Kat the female Spartan, Jorge, and two other Spartans that we don't have names for yet. At the end of the trailer the Spartans board two flying vehicles that we have never seen before. One of these vehicles is shown containing the Lone Wolf Spartan, Carter, and the sniper Spartan that we don't have a name for yet. It is probably safe to assume that the other three (Kat, Jorge, and the demolition man) are on the second aircraft. Right as both of these new birds take off we hear Kat say "Noble 2 is airborne and set for combat insertion." It is also worth it to mention that this same line is said during the E3 trailer, and kind of ties the two trailers together in a way.

This is where opinions may differ. I am starting to wonder if Noble 2 is what Kat is calling the aircraft she and the other two Spartans are on, OR the call-sign could refer to the second half of Noble Team since they are currently split up. Or the term "Noble 2" could even refer to Kat herself if she is second in command to Carter who would obviously be called "Noble 1." Either way, we know that the Spartan team is divided into these two groups.

So during the E3 trailer we know that communication is lost with what someone calls "Noble 1." Even if Noble 1 doesn't refer to the ship that Carter, Lone Wolf, and the sniper Spartan are on, we can safely assume that it at least refers to Carter or his half of Noble Team. We can then infer that Carter's aircraft ends up crashing by the lines that are said in the E3 trailer: "We're coming in hot." "We just lost our bird." It even sounds like the same voice we hear from Carter in the new trailer.

Going from all of this information I am guessing that the first mission will start after you, Carter, and the sniper Spartan crash onto the surface of Reach and are then separated from the other half of your team. From the E3 trailer we know that Carter says, "This is Sierra 2-5-9. You got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere." So obviously you survive this crash landing, and are now left on the surface of Reach to complete whatever mission it is that you are sent to do. It also sounds like only the one aircraft is shot down. So maybe the other half of the team will have to come rescue you at some point.

Anyways, this is what I have come to gather after watching both trailers again. Maybe I'm wrong and you fly straight for that Covenant ship we see in the sky at the end of the trailer. That would be a kickass mission for sure.

Are you saying this in response to how they mention that the Lone Wolf is their new number 6? Otherwise I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Opinion pieces and questions of motive? It was a fucking complaint and NO ONE else had it.
and ANYONE who did follow the Halo lore, would not suggest that thats a Mark IV and Bungie fucked up consistency. Considering armor permutations have been in 2 Halo games now, people who use common sense and realize that armor can be different.

Can you be anymore of an dense asshole? Anyone who follows the story would know that at this timeframe in the lore the spartans were wearing Mk. IV. It dosn't matter how different it looked. What a way to completely miss the point. Did you not noticed my ? marks in the statement that you desperately didn't understand? This fuckin guy, go sit in the corner until you calm the hell down.

The audio isn't clear enough. She could be saying "Noble Team" which really would make more sense.
She does say "Noble Team". Thank you subtitles haha. Interesting. Maybe Kat's bird gets shot down then. Still though, seems to make more sense that Carter would be signified as 1 since he is the commander. Kat definitely seemed like she was in the second-in-command role by the way she greeted Lone Wolf before letting him get to Carter.

It was a general statement in comparison to the tight restrictions of the spartan II's. As the spartan III project had a much wider acceptance rate and restriction range.

I played Halo CE for a long time I really enjoyed the game. I only played some of Halo 2 and 3 and did not like them as much as the first. I do have an Xbox 360 I just don't play Halo no need to get upset. I do enjoy other games that the 360 has such as ME, Gears, and Multiplatform games that run better. I want Bungie to make a multiplatform game so I can see what they could do with both systems. We already know what they can do with the 360. I would also like to see what other company's on either side can do with the other system. It is called spreading the love. Bungie has said themselves they would like to work on other projects other than Halo. No my user name has always been L-A-I-N it is the same on N4G.

what ps3 devs do u want to see on the 360? actually don't answer

It doesn't really matter. Its an FPS game in the Halo universe. Its going to have recharging shields. Either because the armor has been upgraded to have shielding or because they are going to throw the word stamina out there again.

In the end it doesn't fucking matter how they made the video. Even if that's nothing but a cinematic in no way indicative of the actual gameplay, it beats the snot out of Halo 3's cutscenes.

yeah, nevermind, i misinterpreted the conversation. i was under the impression that the "spartans are only missing in action" bit was about a lost member, not the lone wolf that arrived late by warthog.

lol watched the opening another four times straight and cant wait for the mid-Jan media blowout :lol

did Bungie mention anything about the beta?

Has there been an argument going around that SPARTAN-IIIs are unable to wear the MJOLNIR armor? If so, I don't think it's true - considering that the S3s received better augmentation than the SPARTAN-IIs.

No. The Mk. IV did not have shields. And if bungie is following canon and if these are indeed Spartan II's then they would undergo the change to Mk. V at some point in the game. That is if this game is following some aspects of the Reach book story.

Is that what you guys did for KZ2? :p

Im not a huge Halo fan but I will definitely be playing this game, the style is much better imo. Yeah its probably got a shit ton of AA but im sure it will look close to that in the final build. The best thing about the graphics is that its really cohesive, nothing is out of place.

They just got an injection. They did not undergo the rigorous cybernetic bone process. It takes the reinfocred staure of the Spartan II's bones and muscle augmentations to successfully wield the MJOLNIR Mk IV - V-VI

I liked the trailer and don't doubt that it was using all in-game assets. When does the beta actually start so that we can see the real resolution and AA? I'm hoping for an Uncharted 2 reaction from myself when I finally play this. In that I am shocked at how close the gameplay got to the pre-rendered cutscenes. I only dislike the use of pre-rendered cutscenes when they look so much better than the gameplay that it becomes jarring.

Spartan IIIs never got the Mjolnir armor because the cost to make is equal to that of a battleship.

Really I am more interested in speculating wheather the words "skill set" suggest that the game is going to be class based or am I reading too much into a random bit of dialog.

Clearly you are ignoring what I wrote. Because I didn't say that the mark IV armor had shields. What I did say that the character you play will have shields when you start playing the game. Or it wont be shields but it will be a gameplay mechanic that works in the exact same way except its going to be more stupid because they are going to have to pull an explanation for it out of their ass.

Humorous to hear that said about the first Halo game that actually embraces the bleary grey tones people often accuse it of popularizing.

There's no way that wasn't intentional. Which kinda sucks, but whatev.

Spartan IIIs were headed by ONI right? They were not as strong/fast as Spartan IIs as ONI wanted to pump out many Spartans as possible.

* Drug 8942-LQ99: A carbide ceramic ossification catalyst to make skeletons virtually unbreakable.
* Drug 88005-MX77: A fibroid muscular protein complex that greatly boosted muscle density and strength.
* Drug 88947-OP24: A retina-inversion stabilizer drug. It greatly boosted color and night vision capabilities.
* Drug 87556-UD61: Improved colloidal neural dis-unification solution, which in turn greatly decreases reaction time.
????

EDIT: Nevermind. I remember that the S2s had ceramic reinforcement grafted onto their skeletal structure.

Anyway, I don't understand why any of the SPARTANs have accents. They were all raised in captivity, weren't they? Doesn't make sense. Also, I think, in order to properly portray a SPARTAN, you need to dehumanize them a bit. Master Chief in Halo 1 was perfect, in Halo 2 he was crap, and in Halo 3 he was okay.

Nope. I'm guessing the roll out will be similar to Halo 3: the preview will be alpha stuff that's going to be included in the Beta.

Considering you're the only idiotic talk about consistency of armour while completely ignoring armour permutations, I think you have to really question who's being "dense".
Also, did you just state that it doesn't matter how different it looked...because thats exactly what you were bitching about. ALL of these soldiers are Spartans, and they ALL have different armour permutations. If you KNOW that their wearing Mark IVs then its the logical conclusion that Mark IV armour can have various permutations. Again...making your bitching completely useless and moronic.

YOU: "Like where are his shoulder guards? And why isn't he wearing the standard helmet. You know the one MC has with the shade guard above the visor. Bungie really fucked us on the whole consistency thing."
You asked one rhetorical question, and then proceeded to make idiotic presumptions about Bungie fucking over consistency. You made an idiotic comment and got called out for it. Your shitty damage control would be cute if it wasn't sad.

If a second class of Spartan II's was ever formed then yes the numbers could go into the 200's or higher depending on how many were selected to be the next set of Spartan-II's to be trained.

Mendez did leave to train a second set, but I don't think we've ever heard about what happened.
And moved to Spartan-IIIs eventually.

Kat (Sierra 320) is the first to speak to the comm in the announcement trailer and at the end of this cinematic.
Also, like I said before, if Carter 259 was Noble One, he wouldn't have identified himself as Sierra 259 when he responded to the calls of Noble One.
And finally, the license plate in ODST suggests Kat is Noble One.

All signs point to Kat-320 being Noble One.

I know you're being sarcastic, but accents will never cease to exist. I mean, despite national media (TV, movies), people in Florida still speak different from people in Washington. Heck even in smaller countries like France, people in Marseilles speak differently from people in Lyon which speak differently from people in Strasbourg etc etc

Humanity being spread over the universe would only amplify the phenomenon IMO.

Haha I was just trying to help show why there WOULD be accents among them.

Edit: Eh, I'm not starting to make sense anymore. I've been up for a long long time haha.

Good stuff. Watched the 720p Quicktime version several times already and I'm digging the new engine and soundtrack. Plus seeing several Spartans together in a single player setting is making my nether regions tingle. Excitement level building.....

The character models are much nicer than the shit that it was in Halo 3. The lighting also looks very nice. Basically it's not comparable to Halo 3.

Hmm... I think the health bar we've seen makes sense if these soldiers are indeed the smaller, leaner Spartan-IIIs.

Here's that same BR "Lone Wolf" has.

And this looks like Jorge, Spartan-052.

I guess the design work they did on ODST has influenced this game's development in regards to specific gameplay aspects. Will smaller jumps, slower movement speed and fall damage return as well?

I would say it's a typical cutscene, with improved models, lighting, textures, etc. Remember they "premiered Halo 3 gameplay" with a CG.

I would prefer a more epic trailer, but doesn't matter. I look forward for this game.

The video clearly confirms a huge evolution in terms of gameplay
Gameplay Evolution is the only thing I can always trust Bungie with. Also, you don't know a flying fuck about what happened in E306 "Mr. Killzone Avatar". Bungie never showed CG for Halo 3. It is just that the engine showed in the announcement trailer saw a massive downgrade. I am still a skeptic about gameplay matching these graphics, however, spouting BS is not something I will do.
