There was an off-screen video of the beta that leaked. And that was from a public closed beta. A private, internal beta would have added security coded in, probably at least tieing it to the console it was originally downloaded on.
Oh im talking about public betas here, like the Halo 3 one was. I even did a test and took the Halo 3 beta from my HDD and put it onto my PC then did a simple process and basically I could play the beta from a disc, granted this was last month so I still couldn't play it :lol

Still though im hoping this doesn't happen with the F&F beta.

I really, really, like how Bungie is taking influences from multiplayer in other shooters and using the best bits to improve the Halo experience accordingly. Some might scold them for "copying." But I say bravo.

Also, I have no idea how I'm going to survive with Super Street Fighter IV and the beta a week apart. I'll have difficulty deciding what to play when I get home every day :'(

That is an easy decision. The beta has a limited existence, so play that, and then SF when the beta is over.

Hey You said:
Did you get it the day of the Friends and Family or how long before?
Ok so there were several ways to get invited. (I am sure there were more ways, these are just the ways I knew of)
  • Email
  • Inbox on b.net
  • Various giveaways
  • Handed out by community people (IE Frankie)

The emails were sent the day of (right around noon if I remember correctly) the beta.

I wasn't around, but the Friends and Family program for the Halo 3 beta was a few days before the Release to everyone, correct?

It's the same for the Reach beta, what I was asking is when the H3 F&F players got their messages.
Oh sorry I mis understood your question... Wu clears things up nicely in this post (regarding Halo 3 beta dates)

I remember getting a F&F invite and my Xbox RROD one day prior to that. :lol Went and bought a new Xbox, and it froze every 15 minutes, so I had to take it back! Nothing could stop me from playing the Beta though! :D God, I think I played over 1500 games. :lol :| :(

Ghaleon should totally make the beta thread title "Call of Halo: Reach: Modern Warfare Beta thread of "OMG BUNGLE WHY U COPY". Or something that would make fun of those people.

It was a few days in advance, yes.

Why such a huge gab between Last Resort and Zanzibar? I agree that the action doesnt flow through LR quite as well as it does Zanzi, but I still wouldnt put them more than like 3 spaces apart.
Because Last Resort sucks ass.

Also, your endless arguing and long posts about the superiority of anything not BR/CE Pistol makes me think you are Dax.

I don't understand how modding an illegal copy of the Reach Beta would work if it was online only? Wouldn't Xbox be able to see that you are playing it wrongfully?

Hey, I just noticed that the "Latest news" message that pops up in Halo 2 was updated. Very cool of Bungie. (Excuse the crappy iPhone pic plz.)

Played some Rumble Swat on H2 last night, split-screening four man style. What a nostalgic rush! But boy, am I horrible.

Can't wait for the H2 Server closing festivities. Any smart member of AusGAF work out the times we should be playing - including a rough time we can expect the servers to die?

Let's ride this magnificient beast to the ground.

Posted that awhile back, but yes it is great. Seriously its still hard to believe that the game Ive played since 2004 (didn't start XBL till 2006 though) is coming to a end this week.

Last week of Halo 2. Wow. Still hard to believe.

Seems like just yesterday it was Nov. 9th 2004 and I was playing my first game on Lockout.

Ah, I didn't catch it. I don't really keep up with the thread that much anymore.

I plan on playing some Halo 2 tomorrow afternoon. I haven't been able to play any this weekend because I've been kinda busy but I plan on playing a ton tomorrow.

I have almost 6,000 games logged for Halo 2. Compare that to my only 2,000 games of Halo 3. My allegiance is clearly defined. Knowing that the MP beast is coming to an end... it makes me sad. I can still remember buying it on launch day and playing it until I left at 10 to go and stand in line for Halo 3. I had some good times and made some great friends. The only thing wrong with it is SMG starts (which I aparently forgot about in MM, because I played so many custom games in H2).

Indeed. I echo that sentiment.

Checking my bungie.net stats reveals 11,490 Halo 2 games recorded and 1,075 for Halo 3. Huge difference.

I'm going to party like it's 2004 on Wednesday. Breaking Benjamin style.

Awww yeah bro

I never quite knew what BXB and BXR were tbh :p

I feel partially dead inside. Although Zeouter did have an accurate comparison between that and the Flood forums.

Man Halo is good at putting people on a virtual couch and letting them play games together. I can't talk to strangers on COD but it is just too easy on Halo 3.

My attempt to summarize The Arena and its components. Knowing "a certain number" will be quantified for the Daily Ratings and Divisional standings, I'd appreciate if you guys can let me know if I missed a pertinent detail. It's a lot of information to try and compress.

The Arena | A ranked, ultra-competitive set of Slayer playlists featuring an overarching seasonal rating model.
  • Level Field | Spartan vs. Spartan or Elite vs. Elite, using fixed Load Outs. Utilizes Trueskill for matchmaking (which remains hidden).
  • Personal Rating | In each game you receive a Rating based on your individual performance (even on team games).
  • Daily Rating | Play a certain number of games to get a Daily Rating, which is an average of your best game ratings that day.
  • Divisions | Achieve a certain number of Daily Ratings to enter a Division (Steel, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Onyx). You progress up - and down - Divisions over the course of a Season based on your Daily Ratings.
  • Seasons | Seasons span a calendar month; the Beta will run for one Season. At the end of a Season, your Divisional Rating becomes final, and your performance becomes part of your Service Record (e.g. Top 10%, Silver Division). All Ratings reset after each Season.

I have 7652 for Halo 2 (planing on ending it with 7777 :lol ) and I have 6,071 for Halo 3 and 1/2 of those being custom games. So Ive spend a lot of time with both games :D

Fair enough, but there were a lot fewer BIG Xbox Live games to compete with Halo 2 playing time back then.

Now we have (depending on your preferences): Call of Duty, Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, Battlefield, Left 4 Dead, etc

Pretty much any game that could rival Halo 2 back in the day is still on the Live charts today. SW Battlefront II for instance.

I will still have system link support with Halo 2 right? Riiiiggght??

Also, this junior wants to know if his avatar is legal :p

Fo reelz?

They're button glitches. BXB allows you to beat down multiple times quickly. B to beat down, X to initiate a reload and then B again to cancel reload and beat down again.

BXR allows you to beat down and then shoot almost immediately(pretty much instantly) after. Also, if you do B and then XR at the same time off host, you'll get the instant kill and an automatic reload.
