Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Not to start the "tie" game argument again, but I like the way bungie is taking gametypes, where there are more possible points per round to better decide between the better team.

Hopefully they address some of the complaints with Halo 3 objectives; ie the flag return rules. Considering how aggressive they have been in addressing other complaints, I expect progress. :D
 
The actions shots from the MP make my pants wet. My only complaint from today's info is that generator defense is only 3 vs. 3. I was hoping for 8 vs. 8 or at least 6 vs. 6. Oh well, even Bungie can't get everything perfect(although they come about as close as possible).

Not counting the Invasion and the NT1 playlist because I haven't played either game modes, Grab Bag easily appeals to me the most. However, I'm hoping I enjoy NT1 and Invasion so much that my time will be split down the middle between the two playlists.

Yeah, I have the same feeling.. For me Generator Defense would be something of bigger scale, much like BTB. But let's see..

Looks like the environment can chip away a little. =) Unless it's just coincidence that he shot a rocket and there appears to be damage done...

I thought the same thing when looking at that. I always like effects like that in games. It will definitely add to the chaos when things are exploding.

I remember my first Halo 3 beta moment vividly. Valhalla was my first map. The feeling of spawning, looking around and then taking that first man cannon leap was astonishing.

Looking forward to another round of jaw drops.

Yeah environment destruction would be cool, but I don't think there will be much.

Its too bad the flamethrower is gone, I would have liked to see them expand on the fire effects and make it burn foliage.

Then again, the gun was so rarely used its kinda like it wasn't there.

Get fired, here's why:

As much as I'm looking forward to some Slayer Pro matches, having that (everyone with rifles , all sprint, no radar) in the same playlist as regular Slayer (all AAs, radar) on the same playlist seems annoying, since I will either be on the mood for one, or for the other since they're are probably very different experiences. And does this mean there won't be the occasional DMR start loadout in regular slayer with motion tracker and people using all kinds of AAs??

Man, the more I read about Reach, the more I think it's going to be Halo 1 and Halo 3 having a baby, and that baby being the reborn Halo 2.

So... You're annoyed because two different things you want to do will be in the same playlist, because the experiences will be different. Basically, you're annoyed that you might not have to change playlists every time you want to shift into a different mode of Slayer.

I was trying to make make fun of similar posts from the past... I personally will take whatever you playlist djs shove down my throat, I don't really care, there's always something fun to do in matchmaking. Kind of feel bad you took it seriously, I would never really wish for you or anyone to be fired. Sorry.

edit- to be clear, I was being serious about my concerns, I was only joking in the way I made the post all aggressive, caring way too much about it to actually be asking for you to be fired.

Thanks for the Bnet Bump, Urk. And for the comments here. I'd had the idea for a chopper montage about a year ago and started saving clips then but stopped for quite some time. Wasn't really meant to be a "here's all my pro plays" ordeal but more about why the chopper is the funnest piece of the vehicle sandbox and how I'll miss it dearly. I don't even think my chopper experience is best displayed by clips as I'm a more conservative player and pride my survivability in the seat.


Didn't expect to see the gametype content come out today (or I'd have waited to post my video on a slower day) but the assets are really awesome. Gametypes seem cool but the details on how they work are pretty unclear in the article so we'll have to wait until Friday to get those cleared up and I can really begin imagining how they'll play. Not sure what I think of Reach's vehicle sandbox so I'm hesitant on getting excited for "vehicle-full frenzy" that is Invasion but I like hearing that it's multi-stage. IMO vehicles should be used sparingly and not like it is with 3's heavies where they're disposable and respawn every 30 seconds.


As far as playlists are concerned, I'd rather have a smaller number of playlists with greater variety within each than have separate playlists for everything. It does bum me out that DMR+pistol starts is limited to sprint-only gametypes but that gametype sounds fun as hell.

I was not offended, and didn't take you seriously. Internet sarcasm doesn't work without the proper emoticons, but I was riffing on your sarcasm with my own. :D

Why do people not like the Halo 3 version of Territories? I like 3 Plots too, glad its back, but whats wrong or unbalanced about an attack/defense variant of territories? I've always enjoyed it.

All the modes sound great, especially Stockpile. It's still shocking to hear people describe Headhunter in detail as if it hasn't been around forever, but I guess this is the first time its hit consoles?

Still want to hear more about Invasion though. :D

It probably wouldn't be crazy to think the multi-stage aspect of the Invasion gametype is similar to Battlefield's Rush mode where the map opens up in sections as the offensive team progresses so the playable space at any instant could be smaller in size but still big enough for vehicles.

And keep in mind that Halo 3's BTB playlist in the Beta was limited to 6v6, so it's not a foregone conclusion that the shipping game will be limited to the same player counts. I'll be surprised if Invasion isn't 8v8 in the end. If it's not on a map of that size, I'm not sure where it could be.

But as Eazy said, perhaps the compartmentalization of the map will make for more dense encounters than say, 6v6 on Sandtrap.

I just hope with the amount of silence on invasion and boneyard that when it is announced, that it will blow our minds, there is always that feeling that it will be sorta a let down, but I highly doubt it. I'm just anxious to know what it is.

They said it's bigger than Sandtrap (not Sandbox), which only supports the Rush Mode theory even more (unless you meant to post Sandtrap).

I hope boneyard looks like burial mounds from H2. I loved that map.
 
I like that the AR has wear on it, but it would be REALLY cool if there were 3 or 4 different models for the more common guns, with different wear on each one. Like they've been used in different ways :D
