Oh god that halo 2 trailer is still to this day one of the best trailers I have ever seen, that's movies included. A real shame the actual game didn't turn out like that. Earth never was properly invaded, MC never did land on that carrier. Instead they had to implement that silly bomb thing.

I know what you mean, Bungie has been a victim of their own ambition a few times already. However I have no problem with ambition, if it weren't for their ambition, we wouldn't have the caliber games from them that we have today.

Here's to hoping Reach is finally the game that meets their ambitions.:D

Fitting that my first 2 games were on Lockout and Midship, both of which have been remade.
 
I just played on Relic, the thing that still blows me away is when I am on a map with the entire Halo ring stretching out in front/above/behind you, it is an awesome sight.

The day after Halo 2 came out, I started playing it on Live (first day was Campaign day). One of the first matches I get is 1-Flag on Zanzibar. I'm on the stairway protecting the flag when the guy with the sword comes running around the corner. He spots me, lunges, and says "high five!" as the blade goes into it's upward thrust animation. I died, but I laughed out loud at the line.

I'll be on the Deuce in a little bit and I'm hoping to stay on until they kick me off.

I miss being able to fast switch and lunge or shotgun blast someone in an instant. I remember how much fun the jump strike sword sneak was on lockout.
 
For those of you saying the lighting looks bad on the Beta shots lets not forget what Halo 2 looked like before it was release.

I could be very wrong, but Halo seems to get a really nice finishing polish right towards the end... Watch some of the attract videos for Halo 2 and 3 when you idle in the menu, and you can see some game-play of 'beta' footage and it looks way different.

That pic looks...pretty good (even great). Not the best example to proove your point :)
 
I dont remember seing it posted here but a website had a picture of an Elite standing straight up next to a spartan standing up to compare the size difference but i cant find it on b.net. Where can i find it?

Same here :lol Played like crap on it though.

Last game was on Containment, Gulch Wars. It was an excellent game on Waterworks with some really cool fans, which I thought would've been a great way to end, but I had to get one more game in.
 
Wow at the AR comparisons. It is a huge jump from Halo 3 to Reach and I really like the new and improved Reach AR. I really like the new look.

I really have to agree. While I dont think the game should ever be too dark, I really like the dramatic lighting in the first pic. I hope they are still tampering with the lighting and that we will see a healthy middle ground once the game ships.

that lighting is mighty impressive, I think it's much better then halo 2, especially since it looks like weapon fire is casting light, much like what halo 3 will be doing.

that lighting looks so flat in comparison, environment detail and textures are better, but i give both character models and lighting to the halo 2 beta shot.

also, customizable hud overlay please! Like the elite vs spartan in halo 3.
 
The icon above the number is facing a different direction in each image... Is there a compass on the AR that I didn't know about or something? :lol
 
Oh my it's been so loooong time since I played Halo2, but I already miss it. Pace of the game feels so much faster. SMG sound effects are hilarious, like when you I used to clip playing cards to my bike wheels for the cool sound.

Yea I really notice the difference now with a decent sound set up. Halo 3's sound is fucking miles ahead of Halo 2's in every way. I can't wait to hear Reach in game.
 
Jumped in for a match of Halo 2 to get the visual flair, hopped out immediately. The game hasn't aged well at all.

Just some of the changes I cant go back on:

Battle Rifle is the finger of God. If someone points it at you, you die. Hitscan sucks, Im a little worried about how they're going to deal with its return in Reach.

Dual-wielding destroys the shoot/grenade/melee trifecta. It doesn't help that grenades dont feel very powerful and melee's have a wild lunge to take into account. With dual-wieldable weapons all over every map, every match is just a spray-and-pray cluster.

Equipment adds so much variability to the combat, so many tactical wrinkles that completely reshape the dynamics of a skirmish in one fell swoop.

Valhalla > Coagulation

That said, damn I miss some of these maps! Headlong, Relic, Terminal and Containment are ****ing brilliant.

Agreed on everything.

Halo 2 maps are far better, but everything else has aged like a donkeys cock.
 
oh my god, my internet has been lagging since last night. Im trying to play H2 but i fear that the maps wont be downloaded in time before the O.G. XBL shut down.
 
Well I had fun playing Halo 2 tonight. Kinda sad to see it go now lol. Atleast Bungie knows how to give their game a proper sendoff.

Rest in peace old friend.
