Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

I think people are assuming this based on the fact that Spartan IIIs have the letter of their company in front of their number (A for Alpha, B for Beta or G for Gamma).

This is a long shot here....

Maybe Bungie did not include letters on the armor for the trailer to throw fans off? Maybe they're still trying to surprise people with the whole game changer of playing as a Spartan III?

I don't think they'd go that far, but who knows. That link Louis Wu posted earlier (this one) is interesting though, and leads me to believe they're intentionally leaving people in the dark on this.

I'm not that in tune with the Halo canon outside of the games but I agree. Perhaps they are doing this so the inevitable Halo 3 sequel(s) will be able to introduce new characters who do wear Mjolnir armor.

Hasn't Bungie stated repeatedly that Halo 3 was the last in the main storyline saga?

I guess that's what bums me out a bit... This game is most likely Bungie's last romp in the Halo world and they're pulling a Kojima/Raiden on us by not making MC playable.

I mean, sequel in terms of timeline. I'm not sure if we'll see a Halo 4 anytime soon but we might see a sequel to Reach which happens after Halo 3 (and it may not be by bungie-- my guess is 343 takes over for Halo after Reach).

Soooo, maybe a strange thing to get at, but the commander says Spartans never die in combat, but are only missing in action as a reply to Jorge saying that everyone on Pegasi got killed. Does this apply to Spartan III's too or not?

Seeing as that Halo wikia lists all Spartan III's as KIA and Spartan II's as only MIA (even the ones that actually died). Strange inconsistency if he really is a Spartan III. And seeing how SIII's are actually considered expendable, it is a strange thing for the commander to bring up.

I dunno, maybe looking into this too much.

General public doesn't know about Spartan III program.

Truth is, that I like Halo as much as you guys. I am a freaking Halo fanboy, it is just that I get annoyed when developers lie to the fanbase. That is all. Believe what you want to believe. For the sake of the thread, I will not touch the topic again.

To be fair, I don't think a fan-made wiki site is a first rate resource.

I was gonna say something earlier, but I didn't, but yeah I'm surprised people think godhandiscen is a troll.

I thought his tag had to do with Halo actually (could be VERY wrong on that one).

I could have sworn godhandiscen is up there with Ghal as far as Halo fans go.

I can understand his frustration.

When you see how AMAZING the trailer looks, and you love Halo as much as most of us do, you HATE being let down, which only compounds as fodder for the REAL trolls.

If Bungie can pull off Reach at even 70% capacity of what we saw in the trailer, I would fuckign JIZZ.

But we probably SHOULD do our best to keep expectations in check. Either way, you all know we're gonna adore this game.

You know I never understood why people didnt get major hints from that trailer. I dont care if its a cutscene from the game or w/e, that movie/trailer wasnt even shown in full 720p, it had black bars top and bottom. Red flags should have been thrown out then. The Reach trailer does not seem to be that way though. I know this will sound like blind faith, but tech improves over time and people learn new ways to make an engine shine. Heck COD MW2 is a Quake 2/3 engine for god sakes, yet it shines at times.

Though I will also say, haters will hate. First it was "oh this looks like crap" then it turned into " This looks too good for it to be in game" GTFO already.
Rabbit fanbase I suppose. I'm no hater of Halo though. I owned Halo 1 for Xbox and PC, Halo 2 steelbox edition, Halo 3, and ODST. I'm just skeptical that gameplay will look like that from what they previously showed. Halo and Gears of war is the only reason I play with the 360 and the only game I play Online on the 360.

Again, it's not that I wanted to out him as a troll, that wall of quotes were all about the same tired subject he'd been campaigning since the VGAs. It's not even that I think he's wrong, it was just annoying as fuck.

I have no idea what compels people to tirelessly spend time lowering others hype. Optimistically I would hope they just want to be able to say "I told you so" 9 months from now and realistically I suspect they are tossing and turning at night with the knowledge that someone on the internet is wrong about something. No idea what else would motivate someone to beat that same drum over and over again.

Always nice to see Bungie looking forward and back, as they are so often inclined to do.

No, I don't think we need to look into this, just a nice easter egg (that knowing my luck this week has already been posted).

If you really want to get into it, which it sounds like we both do, it almost sounds like the commander is saying it in a mocking/smart-ass tone that the Spartans never die.

Given this, the squad could have known of the existence of the SIII's only if

A) they themselves were apart of the SIII program
B) heard of the Pegasi Delta shakedown by word of mouth
C) were informed some other way/through the battlenet

Now, given the SIII program's secrecy, I'm guessing they didn't hear about Pegasi from battle net, so I'm thinking they had to have heard it because they themselves were a part of either Beta or Gamma company from the Spartan III program. I'm still confused though. Heartily. If someone could shed some further clarification that would be awesome.

Also, couldn't Jorge-052 himself BE a SIII? Just because there were 150 candidates in the SII program doesn't mean that he is FOR SURE an SII. The counting system for the SIII program didn't start at 151 and work itself up.

Yeah, I realize I was being annoying. I work with 3D real time graphics though, so cut me a break. I am really apologizing because I guess I went meltdown mode in a thread that should touch other subjects. Anyway, when Reach is released I doubt I will have time to say "I told you so" since I will be having fun. Also, I hope that I am the one who is dead wrong.

Vic is a Spartan/UNSC soldier, and Marathon is set in the Halo universe. No arguing about it.

Uh. Did you play Marathon and read the terminals? Let me guess, you think Master Chief is heading towards the "marathon planet" in Halo 3's Legendary ending?

Please, please, please for the love of all things holy, tell me that was sarcasm.

Well aren't there accounts of SII's working together with SIII's (for example Onyx)? So it seems like atleast some SII's at some point know/knew of the SIII program. They could've passed it on to the other SII's (as you say, by word of mouth). Then again, it is a possibility that they all are SIII. Jorge could very well, just like Kurt-051, been enlisted in the SIII program, even though he technically is a SII. This could very well also work in the other direction by, as some people earlier have suggested, donning SIII's in Mjolnir armor. (making Jorge a true SII again.:lol )

It seems like the spartans never die credo also extends to the SIII's. I agree with the commander saying it in a kind of ironic way, like the article suggests it is often used by spartans themselves. I know this is fan-written stuff on the wiki, but there are some facts in there.

I thought my sarcasm was clear. Maybe I should have said "Master Chief is Vic". However, in my perfect world there is some sort of connection.

edit: I didn't know Marathon was srs business to anybody here.

The Marathon series, much unlike the Halo series as a whole, is fucking incredible.

Wish there was an appreciation thread, but people would just say it's a doom clone, that the XBLA version made them sick, and that it's cool that Bungie made Halo before Halo.

Plus, I don't ever want to make a thread. Ever.

The Marathon games are free on the PC. Get them over here: http://source.bungie.org/get/

They're probably less vomit inducing on the PC.

I can understand him trying to settle the hype down, but he also just says some really stupid shit like Bungie is lying (NO, they're not. They specifically said in-engine and thats what this is), and that this is pretty much CG, which is absolutely idiotic. Yes this cinematic looks better than what we will get in gameplay, but don't pretend that its so unreachable thats it might as well be CG.

This is also similar to juices, who went on an completely moronic tirade about how games can't get better graphics with the same hardware. I mean, stuff like that is so incomprehensibly stupid, that it doesn't matter what their intentions are. They are being idiots.

Blueblur is also a big Halo fan, and he was bitching about the existence of the Halo Waypoint thread. HE later apologized, but I just don't understand this self-hate shit with Halo fans. Like, give it a fucking rest. Let people be happy if they want to be. Clear away misconceptions, but don't say idiotic things as well.

I'm not the most active participator in HaloGaf, nor am I a huge Halo online player. But I've been a Halo fan since the first day when me and my brother got the original Xbox on November 15, 2001. I am disappointed too sometimes and I know the shortcomings in Bungie's developmental process, but it is absolutely disgraceful how some of these so-called "Halo fans" behave.

No he doesn't.

Exactly. I knew that comment would come up, and someone will ask for an explanation. The fact that he said "text and graphics" is what gives away the fact that hes talking about the lighting and Halo Reach logo they added to the cutscene along with the elite.
