Since a number of players will be new to the franchise, I think a spoiler rule should apply for all the Halo campaigns in this thread specifically (put it in the OT).

Also, game launches in 3 hours here.
This is an excellent point.

Let's try not to ruin it for new people.

SO FUCKEN READY. Took off Tuesday and have it preloaded. Got the Sunset bundle just for this! Not sure what to play first. Probably Halo 2 Anniversary since I already went through Halo 1 Anniversary on 360. Cant wait to see it running at 60 in person. Shits gonna blow my nostalgia through the roof.

Believe me, you won't be ready for it and that's me speaking for all games.(Tried 3 and 4 so far)

You're shitting me. How come it doesn't disable achievements for Halo: CEA then?

I won't bother if achievements are disabled.

They said that any skulls that are a 0.00x multiplier (Bandanna, Scarab, Envy) disable time and score runs, and achievements. Now that *COULD* be taken to mean they only disable the speed run and scoring run achievements since they didn't specifically say they disable ALL achievements, but I haven't found an early review copy player yet that was willing to take the time to confirm this.

My guess is they disable all achievements, based on the way they said it, but who knows I suppose. I'll be confirming it myself as soon as my digital copy unlocks as I'll be turning on Bandanna for the first level of Halo:CE to see what happens.

This GIF is an understatement. A lot of critics say that going back to Halo 3 after H2A is a downgrade. They're morons. The lighting model is so god damn perfect it makes me salivate thinking about it.

HaloGAF and Halo fans all around are about to be blessed with a golden gift.

H2A Multiplayer is nothing to scoff at either. Needs more than six maps, but I'm certain the Forge Community's gonna be able to fix that right up right quick. It's so painless and easy to use.

I'm getting excited just thinking about the servers getting propagated. I look forward to being able to jump into matchmaking and actually getting matchmade.

Isn't the OP wrong? The base game has 400 achievements and the update added 50 achievements for a total of 450. Or am I wrong and base game was 402 and update added 48?

*Checks TrueAchievements*

Nope, I'm right, OP is wrong.

Base game is 400 achievements, update added 50 achievements for a total of 450. Although it's pre-launch and free, so basically the base game has 450 lol.

So if I want to play the campaign and earn ANY achievements, I can NOT use any skulls? Is that correct? Or can I use certain Skulls to earn certain achievements?
Never played halo SP (only MP) so I dont know.

Thanks in advance.

Only certain skulls disable achievements, such as the Scarab skull.

I hope that's not the case. Halo 1-3 is incomplete without IWHBYD and Sgt. Johnson

I will feel bad for my wife this week.

Maybe?

Nah secretly she enjoys the break from you too :)

I too feel bad for my misses, my dog, friends, parents...but for the next full year. Halo will consume, better activate the index now and save all that heartache.

Skulls that say "0.00x" for their multiplier disable achievements (presumably... I will be confirming this or debunking it later today). This is viewable in the skulls menu when you're deciding which ones to activate. You should be fine with IWHBYD and Grunt Birthday (the ones most people love to use), as well as any skull that makes the game harder.

Surprisingly, the Master Blaster skull (blaster master?) does not disable achievements. So if you have a co-op buddy this one might be the way to make the game easy.

Indicate ammo skull should disable achievements, that would completely cheapen any legendary achievement or that crazy all skulls achievement.

I remember having to manage my ammo many times doing legendary runs, tsavo highway brute battle is one I remember well.

Legendary with infinate ammo skull allow you to sit back and snipe everything

This will be my first time really. The only times ive played halo is Halo 2 multiplayer at my friends house when i was young, and a bit of Halo 4's campaign.

So yeah, i have a lot of catching up

Hello Commander.

In light of the recent extraterrestrial incursion, this council of nations has agreed to approve the activation of the Spartan project. You have been chosen to lead this initiative. To oversee our first and last line of defence. Your efforts will have considerable influence on our species' future. We urge you to keep that in mind as you proceed.

Good Luck Commander!

So now I'm going to pre-load the digital version tonight despite having a physical copy on the way. Does anybody want to take it off my hands? I paid £40 from Amazon but will take £35 for my error.

You will be in for a treat tomorrow!

12am EST, 11pm CST, 9pm PST.

No love for Mountain time. We like to pretend those weirdos don't exist here in good ol' 'Murica. :)

The all skulls achievements are tied to a specific playlist that already has the skull setup hard-set so you can't play the 'all skulls' runs with Bandanna or Scarab. That said, Halo 2 LASO does include Masterblaster, which is effectively Bandanna because one of the two players does, in fact, have infinite ammo (it alternates who has it based on kills).

I envy you your virgin playthrough, although I will be thankful for my experience up to now when I tackle L(A)ASO (legendary almost all skulls on).

They aren't that bad. The speed runners have done them in 1:30 - 2 hours, and that's solo.

Doing them co-op will make it much, much easier.

Getting times between 1:30 and 2 hours takes hundreds of hours of practice, no joke. I think I've spent thousands of hours playing Halo 2 and an under 2 hour run is almost impossible although I've come close. Just FYI without sword flying the Halo 2 WR is 2:05 IIRC.

Realistically people should aim for 2:45 here. That's reasonable as it means you no longer have to pull off some of the hardest tricks in each run, such as the Keyes bump or the Regret grenade jump. (RIP swordflying).

Yes but once again my thinking is that playing co-op, especially with Masterblaster turned on (which doesn't disable achievements unlike Bandanna) will make the Halo 2 one much, much easier.

The Halo:CE speedrun isn't hard at all. A buddy of mine and his friend did a practice run on Halo:CEA on 360 and they did it in under 2 hours.

Halo 4 is supposedly the easiest, so that just leaves Halo 3, which I can't imagine being too bad since it doesn't have that many missions and once again co-op means getting past certain encounters (without glitching) is much easier.

I think people are way more afraid of the speed runs than they need to be. The significance of not having to do them solo can't be ignored.

Also, everything we know up to now in the achievement community points to the games tracking your 'best' time on each level, so you don't have to sit down and speedrun the entire campaign in one go.

Here are all the skulls available from the get go across all games. What's weird is that some of the non-scoring ones have a multiplier so what to believe lol?

Can't see your pics do the damn work firewall. Which non-scoring ones have multipliers?

Edit: Just had a laugh about how much I post on GAF when at work vs when not at work. When I'm off, I'm too busy playing games to post here, lol.

I guess so, but while I do speak for myself here... I honestly think the achievements should be tackled solo. They're supposed to be absurdly difficult and coop kinds of feels like a cheap way of doing it. Similar to activating the Catch skull in Halo 4 and back smashing all the Prometheans on Legendary.

Wait, conflicting reports coming in...is there 2 discs included in physical or not? I don't mind keeping a disc in as long as it's all accessible from the same one.

I agree sorta.... but not entirely. If they were, say, 4 hour achievements then yeah I'd like to see people tackle them solo.

But the fact is 99% of the player base is not going to be able to achieve even remotely close to WR times solo. Considering WR times are in the 2-hour range, that extra hour isn't much of a cushion for the average player.

I'm not saying we need to make it baby mode so everyone can get them, but I feel like a 3-hour window and co-op being allowed leads to enough of a challenge that players without the requisite skill won't be able to obtain them no matter how hard they try, while others will be able to obtain them without hundreds of hours of practice, which is fair.

And in the days of Youtube, if anyone wants to tackle them solo for bragging rights, they can always broadcast to twitch with their XB1 with archiving enabled, then export the footage to youtube. No extra equipment required.

That and the in-game leaderboards will almost certainly have solo and co-op distinctions for speed runs, so we can all measure epeens until our eyes bleed, lol.

4 hours sounds fairer, yeah. I'm really happy that 343i is taking speedrunning seriously; it's good to see what is effectively competitive campaign get some spotlight after ten years of silence. #bringbackswordflying

Halo: CE Anniversary - Grunt birthday party and Malfunction.

Halo 2 Anniversary - Ghost, Grunt birthday party, Prophet birthday party, Malfunction, IWHBYD and Sputnik.

Halo 3 - Cowbell, Grunt birthday party and IWHBYD.

Halo 4 - Cowbell, Grunt birthday party and IWHBYD.

Oh well those make sense. I'm sure they did that because they wanted to code the game to disable achievements when any 0.00x multiplier skull is turned on. Malfunction in partcular does actually increase the difficulty since a random HUD element is disabled. It's like baby Blind skull.

So they added a small multiplier on the 'fun skulls' like GBP, IWHBYD, etc so that people can still have fun without disabling achievements, since those skulls don't really make the game vastly easier or anything (although GBP might with boom activated).

The only one that's surprising is Sputnik, since it can be used to bypass large areas, but it's also quite necessary to reach a few easter eggs, namely one of the 8 toys in Halo 2, so they didn't want that one negating achievements.

This makes total sense.

Edit: It also may be specifically just the retailer exclusive skulls (and Bandanna in Halo CE) that disable achievements, as that would make a lot of sense too.

Damnit why couldn't I just get a review copy! All these questions would've been answered already!!
