HaloGAF |OT: Anniversary| So fades the great harvest of our betrayal.

I don't know about you guys but, past the really bad resolution and framerate, Halo 3 really is a gorgeous game. It's just so clean and polished looking. I see a lot of people on GAF say the opposite though.

Personally I think Reach is prettier than 3. Other than The Covenant which looks quite nice.

Totally agreed. The lighting/HDR/whatever is absolutely fantastic in Halo 3. Throw in some great vistas and skyboxes and it's one good looking game. Can't wait to see it in 1080p.

I don't think the game speed should be anywhere near close to Quake levels. Unless you're referring to moving at the same speed in all directions, then I kinda agree.

Although I've always thought backpedaling should be slightly slower. Pissed me off when I would chase someone with a sword and they'd just backpedal away. Although I suppose that's just me being shit with the sword :p

I was referring to movement speed to all directions.
But having the overall game speed near Quake, if not quite Quake-level, wouldn't be unwelcome. Halo 2 fast perhaps? Considering the limitations of a controller, Quake-level gameplay speed may be a bit much (KB/M offering superior accuracy and speed suit a fast game better i think).

As for that backpedaling... the Sword should be a weapon that is very good if you can surprise enemies, if you get into melee range (giving it slightly more lunge than normal melee may be necessary). It shouldn't be something that you can use instead of a gun though (didn't Halo 2 have crazy lunge with it?), it should be specialized power weapon, basically an upgrade to melee at the expense of a weapon slot (and it could have faster switching like the magnum in Halo 4, though not Halo 2-fast).
Someone backpedals away? Time to use a gun.

EDIT Halo 3: The lighting is beautiful in the game but the models and the textures are going to show their age on Xbone i think. It won't be terrible looking game but will be dated.

Does anyone think with the MCC, they'll probably try and end this "anniversary" stuff as well. Is it easy money for them? I mean I just can't see myself rebuying Halo 3 Anniversary 3 years from now, even if it's updated.

I reckon they won't do 10th anniversary versions. Perhaps 15th anniversary for Halo 3/4?

It is marginally smoother in that build.

Youll hopefully see more significant progress soon.

Hope you guys have Sabre working on those Elite models. They looked horrendous last time the game was shown.

On a similar note, has anyone not mentioned that Chief's armor color is off? He's lime green instead of being olive. I keep forgetting to mention it. Aside from the color, the rest of the armor looks fine though.

Yeah, I posted a pic wondering the same thing a while back. I was like there is something off about his color. I do like the model they used though.

The model is great. Sabre thus far has nailed it. It's made me wonder if they're artists would be better suited for making armor permutations than 343's own artists.

Edit: I think they nail the Halo look better than 343. (The Forerunner stuff in Anniversary wasn't great but it's better than 343's interpretation in Halo 4.)

Looks like chief is made of clay

EDIT: Yeah, the grunt have the Reach model (Best designs so far in Halo for me)

Looks like some kind plastic foam to me.

EDIT that Grunt looks like it is modified Reach Grunt.

EDIT also, i have to ask, am the only one who likes Halo 4's Forerunner stuff, architecture, colors, floating-stuff-that-make-no-sense-whatsoever-but-are-cool, etc.?

I think Quake level speed would be too fast for Halo, not only due to to controller limitations. I just feel like it's a slower and more methodical game, which isn't a bad thing IMO. Reach was too slow though IMO.

I also agree regarding the sword. It doesn't happen often, I just get frustrated at myself when I screw up with the sword. It's not an issue with the game. If we could easily get anyone with the sword it would be far too powerful.

I quite liked the Halo 4 forerunner stuff. Felt much more alive than the previous games, which makes sense considering it is actually alive :p

The weapon animations were also fucking awesome.

Soooo...

I Googled "Halo 4 elites" to argue with someone in the MCC thread and a seriously fucking weird image appeared. On the front page. Not gunna embed it because it's against the TOS. But basically, people are fucking weird. Rule 34 certainly applies to everything...

Even an elite having sex with a random chick whilst eating her head.

That shit is fucking weird.

Seriously. Since when did elites start eating people? I mean that's just gross.

Oh yeah, another thing I HATED about Halo 4's aesthetics. The clay armor. It needs a metal sheen/shine to it. Apply some of the Forerunner architecture sheen/shine to the armor; balance it out.

So it takes Elite on human vore rule 34 to make you wonder if elite eat people?

The Master Cheif in that screen shot looks like he's colored in with pastels.

You're not the only one, no. I think it really helps to hammer in just how ridiculously advanced the Forerunners really were. Old, mysterious ruins are fine, but this was clearly the result of a civilization orders of magnitude more advanced than the Humans of the 2550s, let alone our own. I do think that there's a sweet spot between the two, though.

It was a joke ;)

Although I did actually find a really fucked up picture like I described. Was going to post it here but thought better of it.

I'm hoping Halo 5 story-wise is a Halo 2 2 of sorts and establishes a duality within the main factions rather than trying to shoehorn all of the political machinations in-game to humans, covvies or forerunners. Chief's classical UNSC versus ONI and their hyper-militarized Infinity UNSC caricature, Benevolent Covenant (Arby n' friends, classic Grunts, classic Hunters, Engineers...) versus Covenant remnant (gears Elites / grunts / jackals, Brutes, Drinol, etc), classical Forerunners (old Bungie aesthetic, steely blues, so on and so forth) versus crazy Didact and Promethean buds.

If you initiate a three-way playable storyline with Chief, Locke and the Arbiter, it's also totally possible to consolidate those six sub-factions and tie up loose ends just in time for a conflict during Halo 6.

People are using Source Filmmaker to make a lot of weird porn gifs. I've come across some of it while performing searches for stuff like Mass Effect and Halo on tumblr.

Whilst this would be bloody awesome if they pulled it off. I just couldn't see it happening unless the campaign were something like 20 hours long. It would be too convoluted and complex if it was only 8-10 hours. Hell, it'd be bloody complex if it was 20 hours long. They'd just have time to explain stuff at that length.

It'd be so cool if they could make a quality and long campaign. I love Halo campaigns but they have always been pretty short.

Oh yeah, avoid Tumblr if you're looking for stuff related to popular franchises. Honestly, avoid Tumblr if you're looking for pretty much anything. Tumblr is good at making sure Rule 34 comes true.

Hey Frankie, can you say anything about the length of the campaign this time around? I'm not talking "beat the game in 4 hours on Heroic, preorder canceled" metrics. As far as actual in-campaign content goes, not including EU material, on a scale of pork butt to Flintstones rib, how long is Halo 5 in terms of story meatiness?

Ah okay. I don't doubt you found lots of strange things out there, it's like the internet is a Lemarchand's box to it.

Battle/Beaver Creek? Ehhhh.

I've always hated that map. Absolutely no enjoyment to be had on it for me. None at all

What's the list looking like now?

Lockout
Ascension
Coagulation
Zanzibar

Right? We have to get at least one more large map. And maybe a symmetrical map like Colossus or Midship.

I think so. Not really wanting to see Midship remade. I'd prefer Terminal or Colossus along with either Waterworks or Containment.

EDIT: And while I think Sanctuary is a fantastic map, I'd be bummed to see it redone. It has been a staple in every halo game since 2 and I just don't see the need to remake it.

What. No way. It's in my top five faves, probably. In no particular order: Sanctuary, The Pit, Battle Creek, Midship, Wizard.

Reach had the best designs of all the enemies. It was pretty amazing, really. The Jackals were especially improved.

Pitfall's "The Pit but really old" aesthetic could have been really cool if they didn't dull the colors and make it look so ugly.

I really love CEA's Prisoner remake. They captured the spirit of the original while giving it a really gorgeous new coat of paint (although the best part is the skybox, and that's barely viewable).

Agreed, it's very cool. CA did a pretty great job with the art direction on the CEA maps.
