I don't think Wanted was brought down at all. My favorite movie this year so far, it was great from start to finish.

Saw it today, not the greatest thing I've ever seen, but I enjoyed it. Obviously as I'm sure has been noted a million times, the first half is way better. A 6.5/10 or so for me.

I think a Director's Cut or something would be interesting for this movie. Apparently a lot was cut to keep it to a PG-13 rating. Not interested in it in its current state.

that explains alot.

[rReads last 10 replies or so and is now confused] Are you guys talking about Hancock or Wanted? I haven't seen Hancock yet and can't tell which film you guys mean.

I was talking about Hancock, one other thing I wanted to say was that there are genuinely funny parts in the first half, laugh out loud funny IMO. Some of them were in the trailers but a couple like
the first Youtube clip where he is getting the ice cream
are pretty damn hilarious.

okay, so that part was pretty fun. otherwise, i'd rather just watch a real action movie that didn't use slow-motion every time someone shoots a bullet.

but hey, this is the hancock thread! it's not the place for this

:lol

Yeah that was pretty funny. The Bateman comment referencing that later in the movie
when Hancock said he'd fight crime naked before he put the suit on
was funny as well.

just smith's mannerisms cracked me up several times in this. the timing and way he says "i like meatballs" when he corrects charlize theron had me rolling.

The movie was alot better than I thought it was going to be. Glad I saw it

One of the best parts was
"I'm being tucked in by Hancock....lol..."

The twist was retarded as was their whole fight sequence, but I felt like it redeemed itself some after that. Decent enough overall.

Maybe not worth the $45 for dinner + movie though!

Did you get any poonani?

The twist was kind of lame, but it got a bit better. The first half was great, the first part of the last half was kind of meh, then it got good again. Really though, if you don't take it too seriously, it's a great movie, very entertaining. As usual, Will Smith was great.

The movie just looks to be the epitome of average to me (and sounds like from reading this thread). Doesn't look like something to waste $10 on . Still, it looks like it could be a decent rental and hopefully they include some good extras of some of the stuff that was surely cut. The movie would probably be so much better as an 'R'.

I wish there was more of the old hancock but it was still good imho
btw the ending reminds me to eureka 7 :lol

I was totally expecting Him to say "OH COME ON!" when
bateman cut off his other hand..
that would been classic :lol

This movie was decent. The problem I had is that it felt like anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour of the movie was missing from the halfway point to near the end.

Why did Hancock get hurt when he wasn't anywhere near Charlize Theron? I mean, you would think it was instantaneous, as the ending implied when he just jumped out the hospital and quickly regained his powers.

Yes, proximity is definitely a factor for it, but I think emotion had a lot to do with it, too.
She mentioned how they had been together numerous times throughout history, and every time when they felt love, they were torn apart by "the powers." It was that combination that does it. Proximity and emotion. He started losing his powers at "I'm sorry" because "I'm sorry" was a sort of deeper emotional connection...an emotional weakness, almost.

At the hospital, it was the same thing, just in reverse. It was only instantaneous because he made the break much more swiftly than his "gradual" loss of superpowers. He regains his powers because instead of being her lover, he's now her (and all of society's) protector.
It's strange, but it does make sense.

Oh, and also
what was Charlize Theron going on about before the fight between her and Hancock broke out? I probably missed a crucial moment or something, but didn't she say that the reason she left was because Hancock kept interfering with her life or something?

They're basically
Gemini
.

Probably the only other major issue was not having a
real supervillain. God, what the hell, that hook guy was fucking lame.
Speaking of villains, why the hell do these dumbass prisoners, who having previously been on the receiving end of Hancock's boots think that they stand any more than half a chance against this motherfucking monster? I hate it when the writers don't think of this sort of thing.

Honestly? Seems like
he was either part of or aware of "the powers" Theron's character spoke of. His dialogue when he's about to kill Hancock points in that direction. It doesn't sound like just some random asshole getting his revenge. And his being part of "the powers" fits with how he met Hancock, how he met the other two prisoners, how easily he escaped from jail, and how he was there when Hancock was weak. It was all orchestrated by "the powers."

What "the powers" didn't take into account was Bateman's character stepping up and assuming the role of a hero, if only temporarily. Normal people being brave, noble, and good never factored into the equations before. When normal people were mean, cruel and spiteful, they factored in, like when Hancock and Theron were attacked after Frankenstein.

Also,
I totally dug the Frankenstein tickets. Great parallel, and makes English majors smile.
It's a pity that
Bateman's character had to explain it, but that's to be expected for the yuk-yuk summer movie crowd. As soon as I saw Frankenstein on those tickets, though, I thought to myself "oh hell yes, this is where they're going with it."

Saw the movie yesterday. It was okay but nothing special at all.

But still better than Iron Man which is the most overrated movie of the year

I watched it today and was so concerned about it sucking that I used my scene points to buy the ticket. Turns out I probably should have seen wanted for free instead because hancock was actually pretty good.

If I didn't know any better I'd say that the RT score is skewed a bit because Wanted only has 70 odd % because many critics gave it a 3/5 which is enough for a fresh but no one really handed out 4's and 5's. Hancock seems to have a shit ton of 1's and 2's and a few scattered 4's.

This summer has been pretty good so far I'd say- the list below follows * = lowest *****= highest

Iron Man ****1/2
Incredible hulk ***
Wanted ** 1/2
Wall-E *****
Hancock *** 1/2

4 out of 5 ain't bad at all. Fairing a little ahead of last year I think , course there's almost nothing left to watch once dark night comes out, I was gonna catch Hellboy 2, dark night and probably pineapple express.

Truthfully the best and worst thing about hype is that positive hype kills a mediocre movie quickly but negative hype can just as easily elevate a mediocre movie to be a good one. I went into wanted expecting it to be really good because RT and gaf seemed to be filling their pants with love juices over it and I got kind of a stupid mess of a film that didn't know what it wanted to do with itself despite it's fantastic first 2 acts. So the positive hype did it in, I expected a 4 star film and got something worse so I faulted it for failing to live up to the hype. Hancock on the other hand, my expectations were for a 2 star at best film but I got something better then that. Out of the 5 movies in my review list I'll be buying 3 of them for sure on bluray and I can say for absolute certain that Wanted is NOT on that list.

I thought the 2nd half of this movie was total ass. Also Wanted could have been awesome if they changed the whole thread of destiny bs.. I mean common.

I almost didn't see this movie because of the internet bitching. After watching it, i'm reminded of why I rarely listen to people's opinions on here. The movie was great fun, and I can't help but wonder what the fuck people were expecting going in.

I don't know if it was just me
but during the storm in the city.. wasn't there a 2,5 meters creature running past Hancock in the background for like no reason?
I can accept the total lack of consistency concerning the plot/movie script but what the..

I've been trying to find other images/clips of it.. I would have thought you guys in the forum had posted in already but so far no go.

I saw that too! My friend thought I was nuts. She said "Oh it was just a car or a truck..." WTF! We need a picture of this.

To me it looked like a big robot or something...

really? that would be hilarious if real.

I finally got around to seeing this today. The parts after the twist were sorta wtf. So much so that I think i almost would have preferred the generic
Theron's character being the super enemy
or something.

Like I do with most movies I also watched all the related trailers and noticed a couple of things. First the Japanese trailers spoiled most of the movie for some odd reason and between the US and Japanese trailers there were many scenes and quotes that didn't make it into the final cut. I sorta wonder if the "wtf" at the last third of the movie was caused by editing in prior parts and at the end.

I saw this a few weeks back. I definitely went in with caution because it's the most mixed-opinion movie I've seen come out in a while, but honestly? It was awesome.

I kind of understand why people wouldn't like it, but I appreciated the change in tone for the second half. It's why I love Joss Whedon's stuff. He can go from "Smile Time" to "A Hole in the World" in a row, and it works.

People bitch about Hollywood never doing interesting or original stuff, but I thought it was a great change on the superhero genre. There was no world-ending problem, just regular non-powered bad guys and it was more of a personal struggle than some typical "endboss".

Basically,
the first half of the movie was hilarious. ("Well, you should sue McDonalds, cause they fucked you up. :lol ) The second half was more serious, but I like movies changing tones like that if it works and I think it did here. Though I get why some people may not like that.

I thought the plot twist was awesome, and I think that those who didn't like it probably attributed it to the change in tone, and that's why they didn't like it. But I thought the way the two of them used their powers was really interesting.

Finally, I loved the end battle in the hospital. It was the complete opposite of the tone of the first half of the movie, as it was violent and very serious, but I loved how tense it was. Really thought at least one of them was going to die.

Anyway, yeah. It's my favorite Will Smith movie in years, and while I get people not liking the change in tone half way through, I had no problem with it, and it actually made the movie better to me. I appreciate when Hollywood blockbusters do something fairly original and I think Hancock pulled it off.

Makes me happy the movie ended up being a huge hit. I think word of mouth must have been at least okay, because it continued to perform well. Fuck critics.
