peterb0y said:Saw it last night... and it was the definition of mediocre. I like Will Smith and I love Bateman, but even those two couldnt save this mess. The acting between these two is the only good part of this movie, since it adds much needed humor. I had a lot of issues with the film, and heres my negatives list:
CGI: Absolutely craptacular... Looks like it belonged on a TV show. I honestly think Heroes has better special effects.
The Villain: I'm not lying, this movie had the cheesiest (the costume looked so stupid), dumbest, weakest, most retarded villain ever.they even gave him a hook hand GOD was it bad
The Score: Shitty, shitty, shitty. Wow, I've never seen a more pretentious score. It blares during minimal action scenes and the movie would have been better if they had just left a lot of scenes without music.
Charlize Theron: She's sooo hot, and she ruins the twist. The second she sees Hancock, she puts up like a HRM OMG I KNOWS SUMTHING look that gives the twist away.
Lastly, the film had tonal and mythological problems. Tonal problems because its not sure if it wants to be a character drama, a straight comedy, or a traditional superhero. And mythological problems because you're never really sure how the "rules" of these superheroes works. You'll see, there are scenes that happen and you just go... "oh, so that just automatically happens cuz theyre superheroes?" huh
Overall: Iron Man>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hulk>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hancock
I thought even as a comedy it was pretty lackluster. The only line that made me LOL was Bateman's "Do you want him to kill us all?", and that was mostly from the classic Michael Bluth delivery. Even in the first half, Will Smith was ridiculously, terribly unfunny. And the writing has to be pretty damn bad for that to be so, because we all know how he killed on Fresh Prince and MIB (not a joke sentence; that shit was good).Xenon said:Hancock as a comedy - Ok
Hancock as a superhero action movie - Very Bad

I hear Sony is hoping for rain on July 4th around the country because it's traditionally not a big moviegoing day. Still, Hancock should have no trouble getting over $100M and maybe to $115M for the 5-day holiday

Really needed a real badass villain. Hope they fix this for the sequel.
It takes a while to take affect? I don't know, I probably shouldn't put too much thought int-ManDudeChild said:So anyone figured a logical explanation to how that superhero-esque fight started if they're supposed to become mortal when together

THIS. This was my main concern with the fucking film.Wellington said:You guys are nuts, I thought the entire movie was enjoyable and my girlfriend agrees. The drama may have bee a little overwrought in the end but I still think it worked. I liked the tension that spawned from, I also quite liked that he didn't all of a sudden turn into a super coordinated flying hero, he was still very clumsy.love story between Hancock and Charlize Theron's character
My only gripe was the TERRIBLE camerwork. It looked like it was intentional that throughout the entire film they'd have tight shots, many many closeups, many objects in the shots that would be out of focus, and even a lot of times where the camera would move so fast that it was hard to focus on anything (the first scene in particular). I never ever harp on any kind of cinematography, but this was just plain bad all the way through the film.

Now how about you do me a favor and point out where in this thread I have "rabidly defended" this movie.
Go on. It'll be fun. Don't hurt yourself though.
