haha, I think most of us actually do love the country (I know I do; plus I work at an Army Depot), but a lot of it is sarcastic jabs at the insane patriotism some people partake in. It's all in good fun :)

That pretty much sums it up for me. I'll poke fun at the excesses of America and the problems I have with hyper-patriotism, but I'm still awfully fond of the country and enjoy the celebrations on July 4th. But it's also fun to keep poking fun. I think America can take it. :)

I'll use this occasion to post what I feel is the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner I've ever heard. Seriously, fuck all those people who think our national anthem should be 'America the Beautiful'.

A version of the National Anthem without a ton of self-aggrandizing vocal flourishes? THANK YOU.

One of my favorite Simpson's quotes:
"Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it."

President John Adams said that Independence Day "ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore."

God had nothing to do with AMERICA (or any other country), John Adams, so let's save the solemn acts for the fireworks, family and grills baby!

Yeah. It's kind of obvious the extreme that some people take patriotism, and that is what is funny. The idea to be patriotic for the USA (or any other country you come from) is perfectly fine, however, and I love this damn country so much. I want to just keep helping to improve it :)

Is your statement a statement of absolute truth?

Yes. God is politically neutral. He doesn't give half a fucks as to your political allegiances. He's sitting on his throne, letting mankind fuck each other up, until such time as he destroys this world and ushers in the heavenly kingdom.

God huggers who try to act like he chooses one political cause over another are actually Godless heathens worthy of eternal damnation. There's actually a special corner in hell reserved for those who try to make political cause in the name of God.

thanks for the laugh
it's like watching a girl in an abusive relationship put on something special for their anniversary meal.

I am honestly entertained by the hate during this day. To be clear its fine to hate on america all you want but if you are using this day to do it you are pretty pathetic in my eyes.

There's a parade outside my house right now.

A parade. At 10 in the morning.

Complete with some asshat blasting Neil Diamond's "They Come to America" on his car stereo so loudly it's making my windows rattle.

That's it, I'm joining the communists.

Considering how inflated American egos can get on this day, I don't consider them trying to take a few people down a notch pathetic.

That's sad that you think 'trying to take someone down a notch' is acceptable on any day

So Canadians don't get extremely patriotic on Canada Day? Mexicans don't get extremely patriotic on 5 de mayo? so on and so on? I think every country gets patriotic on these types of days. I just think the US gets the most attention because its usually the country on the spotlight (in a bad and a good way)

Depending where you live most of the really good shit is illegal. If you live in such an area and have an Indian reservation near you go there and go crazy. Mortars, roman candles, rockets, you know fun stuff. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the safe and sane bullshit like sparklers and snakes.

haha. Haters can't handle America.
I find it especially funny when they say "fuck America" but out the other side of their mouth talk about how great the Wire, Breaking Bad, Community, and Mad Man are.

America is the biggest exporter, definer, innovator, reinventor, and creator of pop culture there has ever been.
