Soooooooooo much better than I thought it would be. This album is going to be great, even Kirk sounds more like himself than the last two.

Doesnt hook me as quickly as Hardwired and Moth, but gonna have to listen to it at the proper volume when I leave work.

Really dig this trickle of songs on the lead up.

Really liked the song, only heard it once, but will check it tomorrow with way more volume (I'm spending some time with my wife, so don't want to give too much time even for my favorite band of all time). Actually will check the video as my second listen. But what I heard 1st time around was awesome. Like many of you said, it sounds like (old) Iron Maiden really, but that's not a bad thing, because they're great too. So far 1 out of 12 songs has been good (Hardwired) and 2 out of 12 (Moth and Atlas) being awesome!

Oh that sounds good.

That sounds really good.

Seems like recording the album over the course of a few years between tours and whatever is going on in their lives has done them wonders as opposed to locking themselves in a studio and driving each other crazy for months on end.

On the list of working titles one was NWOBHM, (new wave of British heavy metal) so I'm going to assume that was this one. Plow was Moth into flame and Saw blade was Hardwired.

Whenever I hear an amazing Metallica song for the first time, my brain is like mush and have no idea what to make of it. By third listen I'm thrashing around like a maniac, Atlas is no different.

Just listened, another great song from this album! I really cant wait to get this album.

My g/f got me the Ride the Lightning re-issue boxset for my birthday so I've been in super Metallica mode lately. Cant wait!

First impressions are pretty damn good. Intro drags on a little though, which isn't surprising.

That lick in the solo from 3:52 to 3:56 is almost identical to the lick at the very start of the second (Kirk' s) solo in Suicide & Redemption. Just with less wah wah.

Seems like it would be a fun song to sing along with live. Especially the chorus. Gonna go see them next year fo sho.

Yes moth is best of them so far. Not forcing themselves to make Old school thrash songs is doing wonders here

I mean if you count out the incompetence of Lars, the way James sounds, the way everything sounds so powerless, that terrible Iron Maiden solo, and the fact it's 6 minutes long it's a song.

James actually sounds great, and this is coming from someone that hated how he sounded in the clip, the guitars sound good too and the solo just sounds like Kirk being Kirk, not his best work but better than his prior two and yeah most songs on the album are going to be 5-7 minutes long, Halo on Fire is 8 IIRC, hardwired is short because it was done the week before the announcement.

New song sounds familiar, like they used 20 year old demo tapes as their baseline where most of the riffs made it ,in slightly different fashion, on their previous records.

Yeah this song is great. Its their rockiest song in a while and I'll echo the maiden comparison. Got a phantom of the opera vibe in parts.

I like the song quite a bit. 4:21 is absolutely phenomenal. Love that section.

I still think Moth is a far better song though. Moth > Atlas > Hardwired.

Fucking Hetfield riffing the shit out of that guitar.

Me the entire time.

Only listened to the song once. Wasn't too impressed at the beginning but it grew on me and I was really liking it by the end.

Annoys me that it always take them almost a week to get the song up in Google Music. My guess is that they have a Spotify deal.

Okay listened to it five times so far. The melodic parts definitely give me some Ride the Lightning vibes. The chorus is amazing just like in Moth. Can't decide which is the better song because both are phenomenal, imo.
Atlas is new wave of british heavy metal, no doubt. That's some great oldschool shit.

For me it's kinda impossible. All three so far have been amazing.

But no more singles for me now. I'm holding out until the release. Not long now.

Not as catchy as Moth but I think it's more enjoyable for me. I like my janky start/stop riffs and harmonized leads.

Honestly very impressed they pulled this off. The samples did not sound good.

This.

The first minute, the first time I played the song, meh!.

But it really grew, fast. My favorite of the three songs released so far.

They're not releasing any more music until launch they announced today so only 19 days to go.

Honestly though if it leaks I'm listening to it.,

Hardwired was pretty average IMO, and had abysmal lyrics.

Yeah, I don't know...Hardwired sounds like it doesn't belong on this album. I know it was written in just seven days but still...
We've only heard three songs so far so maybe there are more songs like Hardwired but I doubt it.
It's really strange they named the album after this song, imo.

Atlas, rise! is a perfect title for an album.

The overall theme of the album is "self destruction" or self destructive tendencies which is why Hardwired got the title, but I agree, Atlas, Rise! Is more exciting.

Also Atlas,Rise lyrics courtesy of Reddit:
Bitterness and burden
Curses rest on thee
Solitaire and sorrow
All Eternity
Save the Earth and claim perfection
Deem the mass and blame rejection
Hold the pose, reign perception
Grudges break your back
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on, right on me
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, Rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, Rise!
Crucify and witness
Circling the sun
Bastardize and ruin
What have you become?
Blame the world, and blame your maker
Wish ‘em to the undertaker
Crown yourself the other savior
So you carry on
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on me, right on me
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, Rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, Rise!
Masquerade as maker
Heavy is the crown
Beaten down and broken
Drama wears you down
Overload, the martyr stumbles
Hit the ground and heaven crumbles
All alone, the fear shall humble
Swallow all your pride
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on, right on me
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, Rise!

Best line. I wanna scream it out my window as loud as I can, lol.

I feel you man, song blew my expectations out of the water, definitely going to see them if they come my way and sing my heart out. If the rest of songs are bare minimum as good as Moth and Atlas it's going to be up there with their first four-five for me (I only really dig half of Black).

My two most hyped games and a new Metallica album are coming out this month. I could not be happier.

I saw them three times so far. First in Berlin 2003 (Germany), then Gelsenkirchen (Germany) and Arnhem (Netherlands, MOP anniversary tour). I'm pretty sure Hardwired is their last album so yeah...I wanna see them again asap.

I just hope there is a "slow" song on the album. It doesn't have to be a ballad (there is no ballad on hardwired) but something like Fade To black, Sanitarium....please.

edit: And does anyone else think St.Anger is fucking amazing? That garbage can snare..lmao...I love it. also, songs like Shoot me again, Sweet amber, The Unnamed Feeling, etc....Fuck it. This album is amazing. They just went crazy and said "Fuck you all". I love it.

I've searched a couple hundred forum posts to find some impressions from their listening party so this is what I got:
Am I Savage: Slow and Heavy, compared to 'Sad But True', also compared to Iron Maiden
Spit out the bone: Fast and thrashy, compared to Battery
Halo on Fire: this is kind of aballad it seems, but in the same way One is a ballad but then gets heavy at the end.
Overall impressions: Reminiscent of "Master of Puppets", "Black Album" and "Reload", lots of heavy tracks both fast and "stomping", overall it's crushing, heavy and different, Kirk uses less wah (already evident) Impressions are incredibly positive, it's progressive and has "good bass" (no AJfA repeat)

There's a song that they feel didn't work, but it was never listed which.

Other comments:
At least 5 songs that will be "legendary", Killer riffs, amazing rhythm changes and people really love 'Spit out the bone'

Of course these are opinions from megafans that were at the event. I've also been told that an embargo for press reviews will be lifted tomorrow on November 1st so we might get a few less bias opinions there.

But this might be it guys, a return of the king.

Looks like you'll get your wish! And this concert will likely be my second concert ever as my first was when I was 15 and I've got to say I'm incredibly jealous of you getting to see them on their MoP tour, way before my time but it must've been incredible to witness history in the making.

But yeah, no fade to black but Halo on Fire is compared to "One" and "The day that never comes"

Oh my god this sounds amazing :D
Master of Puppets + Black Album + Reload is exactly what I was thinking when hearing the three songs.

Hey, I'm also incredibly jealous of people who saw Metallica in the 80's and 90's :D
Metallica is famous for their good setlists so you will get the new and old songs live. It's all good :D

edit: I have one wish...and Metallica would probably hate me for this....I want to hear "I disappear" live. This song is underrated as hell.
