There is a disturbing lack of mildshock.gif, wellnotthatshocked.gif and Timmy from Jurassic Park in this thread.

I got a mild shock once while changing a halogen bulb and it felt exactly like in the cartoons where you see the skeleton of the shocked character.

Got fried swapping out a projection bulb when I worked in movie theaters as a kid, forgot to ground out the capacitor.
Got thrown like 10 feet and layed there twitching while my brain reset itself, it was quite the experience.
At least the xenon bulb didn't burst in my face.
Those bulbs are bloody expensive.

this shit above my pay grade

Wtf man you should put a “don’t click this unless you want to see someone die” spoiler tag on this or something.

I didn’t realize what was going on till halfway through and I really didn’t want to see that shit. Second time that’s happened on GAF this week. Someone posted a helicopter crash earlier that I’d like unsee. This is twice as graphic as that tho.

Static electricity from the fingers and that’s about it.

I’m not sure what’s more surprising. That you were on the floor with a fried brain and nobody to help you, or that they allowed a 15 year old kid to do such a dangerous job.

I think I was 18 when it happened, but I was definitely alone in the projection booth. You're supposed to wear protective gear when you change a bulb, a faceshield and insulated gloves. BUT, I was young and dumb (and probably stoned) I was lucky all I got was a nasty jolt.
Another dude I worked with did have a xenon bulb bust in his face while he wasn't wearing the faceshield. He spent a few hours in the ER while folks dug out dozens of tiny glass slivers from his face. That he didn't get any in his eyes was some kinda miracle.

I've been shocked a bunch of times by the same lamp. But nothing major or anything.

My parents have this old ass night table lamp which is probably 50 years old and metal. It's copper or bronze I think as it's got that brownish colour.

It's got one of those tiny little switches you turn/click to turn on and off. After doing it enough times, the top part of the lamp becomes loose. And when that happens you get a big shock up your arm when turning the switch. LOL.

What you got to do is unplug it and tighten the housing near the bulb. Then no more shock. It kind of looked like this but older and shittier.

Have you ever thought about... buying a new lamp? One that doesn't try to kill you?

Yes when I was younger i was at Gettysburg during the 4th of July week and was swimming in the hotel pool with a lot,of guests and everyone noticed fireworks were going off so most of us went outside to watch them I decided to sit of a cement base of a light post in the parking lot and there must of have been a exposed wire because because my whole body locked up and couldn’t move or speak. I managed to get my body to fall forward decided fuck these fireworks and went back inside the bottom of my feet were burnt from the whole thing The scariest thing was as I was sitting their paralyzed all the people around me had no idea what was going on and just focused on the fireworks

I touched a powerful electric cattle fence once when I was a kid. It fucking hurt.

The farmer had upped voltage way past legal I think, he got in some trouble when a bunch of his cows were killed by it. I think back to that day sometimes and wonder how I'm alive - shit threw me over the road a good 10 feet or so.

I had severe burns on my hand from it, but I was too scared my parents would know I skipped school that day that I told them I caught my hand on the stove xD

darwin award nominee here.

was hanging outdoor lights and stuck my finger into one of the empty bulb sockets while the entire string was plugged in. not even sure why i did it, there was a little tab in there i wanted to press on so maybe that enticed me. still i did it without thinking. thank god it wasn't high voltage. literally feels like im starring in idiocracy.

A whole bunch of times while I worked in the construction industry in my younger days. Nothing too serious. Comes with the territory.

Only electric fences set to put off some cows (set so low that some still jumped over) from getting onto my primary school's rugby/football/cricket pitch.

We used to dare and trick each other to touch it.

A few times with 110, and once with 220 which hurt. Also....

When I was a kid we had no AC and needed to leave the windows open in the summer unless it was raining. One night I heard my mom scream close the windows. I climbed out of bed and we had these old wooden windows that required you to really lean into it. I had my arms resting on the metal screen trying to get my window to start moving. Then I remember a huge crash sound. We had a old giant satilite dish just barely outside of my window. It was hit by lightning and I was indirectly hit. I woke up on the other side of the room on the floor after I apparently crashed thru a chair. I hurt like hell and couldn't see for a good 20 mins or so. I had burn marks on my arm and the window.

So yeap I've been zapped before.

Pulled apart a broken pedestal fan as a young teen. Plugged it in to see if what I had done had fixed it. Something was making like a ticking noise, so obviously I touched it.
I'm so wary of electricity ever since.

Got a nasty zap once from the tube of an old CRT monitor that I had to game on (it was part of an arcade cabinet so it didn't have a casing) but survived

Someone linked to an article saying he died and the video suggests it.

I'd not post any video of someone dying, adding a spoiler as a bare minimum. People can always search for a link outside of the forum, if they have a morbid curiosity.

When I was young. At my cousin’s and went to play their Nintendo. Turned it on and had no power. Looked at the outlets and saw it wasn’t plugged in.

Found the power adapter but it was missing the plastic enclosure. Popped it in the plug and zzzzzzz

Last year I was going out of the elevator at my floor, soaking wet because it was raining outside and exhausted bc had to carry boxes. I had one hand on the metal door of the elevator and I used my other hand to ring the bell of my flat. Electricity went from hand to the other all through my body. It was super painful and it took me a few minutes to recover. Very very nasty. I have no idea if I could have died or not?

Yup! When I was in Morocco I was informed to wear slippers when you had anything to do with stuff connected to the socket. I forgot about this when my phone alarm suddenly went out 6 AM in the morning and I reached out to turn it off :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I have learnt my lesson the hard way, never do anything when you wake up or at least try not to

A guy in the town where I grew up decided to hook his trailer to the power grid without the aid of the electric company. I guess, he climbed the electric pole, wires in hand, when he finally reached his connection point the arc was so powerful that it blew his left arm off, burned part of his face/head, and stopped his heart. The shockwave it generated flung him through the air, while the concussion of hitting the ground restarted his heart.
He survived and went on to be known as the “One-armed Bandit“. He was a cracking mechanic. There wasn’t a hot-rod he couldn’t repair and turn into a racer, using only one arm.

Yeah, it wasn't just a static shock. I could feel my finger tip burn. Kids do dumb stuff man.

Why not throw it out or retire it for good?
