Has Zelda 2005 Graphical Presentation Changed?

Hey Matt, great job in keeping the updates of mailbag nice and regular. It's one of IGN's best features in my opinion!

Anyhow, I was wondering what you thought the possibility of Nintendo showing the public that extended trailer before May rolls around? You know the one that only certain members of the press were able to see at the last E3. I just think it would be a great way to tantalise the fans some more, publicise the game further and it certainly has been a long wait for the public to see anything on this little gem!

Or perhaps a possibility of some new screenshots or anything at all really? What's your view on this, I would really like to know, and of course all of Nintendo's and Cube IGN's fans would also, so I think that's evidence enough to print this letter :). Thanks in advance.

Matt responds: I'd say there's a zero percent chance that the extended Zelda trailer we saw will ever surface. But from my understanding, that's not such a bad thing. You'll just have to wait and see what I mean.

Along with good old matts comment and Auonoma's(SP) comment that the game will be very very beautiful, Has this game taken a change in direction?

Surely to say that the trailer we all want to see, not to surface is a good thing is a bit on the crazy side.

Or has the game just taken a big step up, and gone above and beyond what we've already seen?
 
Cause if they show that footage now, people will think the game still looks "as bad" as it did at E3. I'm sure the game is a lot prettier by now.

I await the day a sequel to Yoshi's Island is made that uses crayon shading ith high levels of frothing demand. Yes, crayon shading IS real, and no, Yoshi's Story is NOT a sequel. I want a real one. Since everyone loves 3D, it'll have to be 3D I guess. But dammit, I want it to look and feel and play like the first one! Yoshi's Island is the best 2D platformer OF ALL TIME.

You don't like Matt? get over it. Your own personal internet fist waving does not change the fact that Matt has a position of high standing in the games media industry and generally has SOME idea of what he's talking about.

So do several of the posters here, what's your point? The only difference I see would be that Matt is the only one gets paid to daydream about what he'd do if he ran Nintendo.
 
my point is, if some innocent poster comes along with a topic they think would be of general interest to the forum, they should be able to do so even IF the source happens to be Matt-IGN. Hell, the source could be your sister for all I care. I'll make the decision for myself whether to believe you or not.
Remember that For every posting member here who cries for bannings, there's about a hundred Lurkers who are glad the Original Poster started the thread.

This is totally overlooking the fact that there was already a topic on the subject of course. :D
 
I have a fun idea; why don't we make one all-encompassing Matt Cassamassina appreciation thread, and every time some noob starts up another Matt thread, we just merge it with the big one? It will be the MOTHER OF ALL MATT THREADS

And the rest of us will be able to sleep peacefully at night

The problem comes when Matt's comments bring forth useless speculation and hype, not actual discussion. At that point, there's no valid reason to even bother creating a topic if it's just going to wallow in fanboy fantasy land. Then they just fester on the forum, and when the actual news is revealed, people bump them all disappointed and such, creating anti-Matt sentiment. Or maybe it's just that he has some really asinine ideas.

Either way, he's already got a venue for displaying his thoughts on the IGN Mailbag, and for the most part, they should stay there.

I don't care this way or the other about Matt. But if I wanted Matt's opinion, I'd go read IGN. And if Matt wanted to share his opinion with GAF, he'd post here.

It's great Matt has opinions. So do lots of people. He doesn't need this legion of self-proclaimed oracles echoing his gospel to other boards and lands. Keep that shit off the GAF.

Poor Matt. It's to the point where he's probably scared of saying "Hey" in the forums because of the inevitable speculation about UPCOMMING GCN EXCLUSIVE NEXT MONTH.

That's actually why I posted it. Sure it's Matt saying it and everyone hates him, but it's what he's saying that matters - nothing has changed in the visual style of Zelda, which is what this thread was about. I figured me posting that would pretty much kill any speculation this thread would produce if anyone got past the "Matt is teh d3vi1!" posts. (Which is what I meant by what I said by my last post, anyhow.)

On an unrelated note, I just noticed I'm not a Junior Member anymore. Heh, cool. :) I'd like to kiss ass by saying that GAF > IGN.

I agree here, but I also disagree at some of the treatment towards ThongyDuck. As far as I knew when I clicked on the thread, it had nothing to do with Matt and the questions he asked has nothing to do with him.

I dislike Matt's opinionated and overhyped writings just as much as the next GAFer but seriously, get a grip lads.

I'll agree that GAF is quite the hostile environment, perhaps needlessly so, but that's just the way elitists are. Can't expect everyone - especially those with post counts above 5,242 - to be calm and level-headed. It's the inter-net.
 
I think the main reason Nintendo won't be showing the E3 trailer is because they have a new one to show off, and perhaps that's going to be shown sometime in the near future? Maybe even at GDC? That would be cool.
 
It'd definately be a nice suprise if Iwata showed off a new trailer at his GDC Keynote. Of course, knowing Nintendo, they usually just prefer to "wait till E3."
