Haters....WHAT IS WRONG WITH FF II?????? IT IS NOT BROKEN!!!!

isamu

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Are you kidding me???

WHAT IS WRONG WITH FFF II????????????????

I'm about 10 hours into it and I'm loving it so far!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah the leveling system is unique but it's innovative and refreshing!!!!!!!! The story and the way it has unfolded so far is very impressive!!!!!!!!
The king of Altiar has just died and Leila has just joined my crew...headed to diest now.[/spioiler]

I can't believe some people's tastes in old school RPGs these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet by the time I complete this game and then complete Kingdom Hearts COM I come away liking FF II more!!

Fort'Ninetey you.......

Wow this thread is a mess of screwed up bbcode.

Anyway, I dislike FFII because it sucks. But that's my idea, anyway.

To me, 99.9% of old school RPGs don't even come close to holding up, but then again most new school RPGs are doing pretty poorly in my book as well. I'm hard to please for RPGs.

Sorry about that folks. I'd of fixed it but they took away my editing post features, so there's nothing I can do.

It's a broken system because it has a very experimental upgrading and levelling system, something Square haven't used since. Personally it doesn't bother me, but obviously the fact that you can't be lazy towards fighting (i.e. level rush) and what you do within a battle upsets a few people.

The story is alright, and was grand for it's time, but as usual they never hold a candle to the flame these days which is sad.

Your points are valid, but you would think more people would like because of that. And I certainly wouldn't classify it as broken(cough*fort'ninety*cough)

It's definitely not a very well balanced game, but then there are quite a few equally imbalanced RPGs that are still popular (e.g. FF7/8). I guess people are more tolerant of balance problems in easy RPGs than in hard ones.

Magic was absolutely useless in the old version, at least. And the leveling system isn't unique, it's just fucking broken.

Like FFX and KOTOR had better stories? Bah! Equally lame and predictable. At least FF II doesn't have KOTOR's load times! I could take a crap and a piss in the time it took KOTOR to load the next area.

5-10 seconds my @ss! ;) KOTOR had the worst load times this side of Blood Omen 1. Unless your Xbox was souped up or mine had problems, it was more like 2-3 minutes for some loads.

I agree, haters begone on Final Fucking Fantasy III! If that's what you're talking about....right?

Oh, you meant Final Fucking Fantasy II? Yeah, it sucks. Hate all you want.

Shhhhhh.

Dawn of Souls FFII is much harder than Dawn of Souls FF, though.
And comparatively, the DoS FFII is hardly broken at all. I haven't had to smack my own party once, and I've been gaining stats appropriately and so on. And having completing the original, I can attest strongly to that.

Well I just beat the game. And I must say, this was much easier tha FF I! And yeah, I hate to admit it, but magic leveling is quite frankly, a bit broken. Though I did manage to get several of my magic skills up to lvl7 or higher. Got Ultima and Holy up to 10.

But anyway moving on.....Soul of Rebirth....

Squaresoft are you out of your mind????????????

Soul of Rebirth is A JOKE!!! This went from being the easiest RPG I've played to the most ridiculously impossible!

SoB is impossible to get through with Scott and Minwu at these levels!!! I mean what the fuck....they are not equipped with hardly anything!!! No potions, no antidotes, hardly any phoenix downs and a measly 10 ethers!!!!! There is absolutely no way to beat this bonus dungeon! Minwu gets killed faster than Marion Jones on steriods! And Scott can barely hang in for a few fights until swiftly getting his ass kicked!

Has *ANYONE* beaten Soul of Rebirth yet? If so, please tell me the secret to how you did it!!! Cuz I'm struggling here!

What's crazy is that you believed 2-3 minutes to be normal. C'mon!

For Soul of Rebirth, just try to survive until you pick up Ricard. Run away, or save every couple steps and reset if necessary. Once you pick up Ricard, just go through one more level (or the level Ricard is on, I forget), and you'll get a break, and an opportunity to safely level your character's stats...which is where I am. I am trying to get my other character's HP up so they don't die in one hit.

people tend to think load times are far more than they really are simple because there frequent loading in those games.

I loved FF2 in Dawn of Souls, but the sheer amount of stat raising facing me killed my interest in Soul of Rebirth shortly after recruiting the whole team, even if I am somewhat interested in the story. It's cool to have a new team to customize as I will, but I pt so much effort into my old team that I would really have preferred to have used them.

Dawn of Souls is awesome overall, but it should have a sticker on the box warning of the thousands upon thousands of random battles facing players.

Regardless, I doubt I will ever play FF1 again (unless it is brought up to modern FF levels of graphics and story but has the challenge restored from the original). I still fondly remember renting it at my local Phar-Mor for 59 cents on many a weekend ( I miss the $0.59 per game, $1.50 for three, or $3 for six, but I still own the copy of the Adventures of Lolo I got from them when they went out of business).

Maybe the haters would get more respect if rather than just shouting "BROKEN! BROKEN! BROKEN!" they could define in what ways it's broken.

Just a thought.

I think some posters are confusing "broken" with "weird." I've only played the DoS version of FFII for about 13 hours or so, but I don't find it to be at all exploitable, and the levelling-up makes logical sense (though I wish there were a better way to tell how close I am to levelling a stat than those little bars that are about fifteen pixels wide).

Now, unbalanced--that's a different story. Magic in FFII: DoS seems to me to be way overvalued, and physical combat seems to be way undervalued. Right now I'm in a phase of the game where I have the three regular characters and a series of guests in the fourth slot--the regular characters are doing all the heavy lifting, and they're primarily using magic because only one of them can reliably land hits otherwise. And the guest character is almost completely useless, since I can't be bothered to level him or her before I lose him or her.

The flaws present are that one, character stats level up far too slowly when fighting enemies and two, the easiest way to level up was to leave just one weak enemy left in the fight and start smacking your own teammates and healing them repeatedly to cheaply boost up.

The PS1 version and new GBA version have both had a good amount of tweaking to improve this, but its still somewhat left over. Anyone who's asking what the haters have been talking about for years should consider that they're playing the greatly improved version. Most people agree that the newer versions are actually pretty playable, but the rest of the game is now pretty dated, so its a case of too little, too late.

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest is the best final fantasy game that preceded the awesome Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy Legend is the best game on the GB. It's actually so awesome i played through it three times back then. I meant best FF game on the GB, not that there are many anyway.

one time i was playing final fantasy legend while driving my truck and i got frustrated and put the game boy underneath the tire of the truck then i started the truck and was about to back over the game boy but then a game counselor drove up pulled over and helped me!

I think it's pretty obvious isamu is playing the much-improved FF2 from Dawn of Souls, and has never played the broke-ass original. There's a reason why people complained about it, it freaking sucked hairy ass. Think a little before you post, and cut down on all those damned exclamation points.

God I hate him.

I hate Nick Rox, too, for making him who he is today.

So much hate =*(

O.K. so I've spent the day at work leveling up a bit and I now have my characters to where I want them to be to be able to continue through the Unknown Palace. Having Lvl10 flare and lvl10 Ultima is a big help, as well as 99 ethers :D

Man, Chaos Riders have to be THE most annoying monsters in all of SoR! The fact that they contantly cast OsmoseX, Drain and Confuse makes them an absolute pain in the butt to deal with!

But anyways I'm a lot stronger than I was yesterday and got my 40 Elixers and 99 Ethers. Plus Ricard's got about 4000HP while the other three are hovering around the 2800-2900HP mark. I think it' safe to say I'm good to go(right Sky Render?) :p

I will commit suicide if Team Marubaku does not upload replay footage of OutRun 2SP by the end of January!

With FFT, you just got experience for doing things... so yeah, you could beat up on your own people for good results. However, in FF II if you manage to play well and keep your characters from taking damage... they just stayed puny.

I played the original a few months back. I was originally a fan of the weird differentness of the system, but the oddities soon struck me. Like when I realized "Hey... I want to get more powerful for the next section. But if I get the new equipment, I'll take less damage and thus gain less HP. So the best thing to do would be to leave on really weak armor, and just put on the good stuff for bosses."
