Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone (200+ songs) coming west on January 10

No matter if all the songs from the Japanese release don't make it into the domestic version, for those who have been wishing for this, buy it. Buy it and tell your friends about it. It would really be great to see any and all future vocaloid rhythm games make it to the west.
I guess we are in a wierd spot right now with all known Diva games either released in the west or coming soon, outside the old PSP ones. That should put us in a pretty good place whenever the next game comes along.

Usually trying to define something as "popular" or "mainstream" kicks up a giant hornet's nest in gaming circles. :p

Miku's been gaining steam for a LOOONG time now.

Everyone of her 2016 concerts sold out as well including NYC, Dallas, Houston, Toronto, and Mexico City.

Never thought I'd see the day where Capcom has disappointed me but SEGA actually delivering regarding localization.

Still salty about DGS Cappy :(

I was secretly hoping this would get a physical release when brought over. Great news regardless, as it'll be a money saver for the DLC.

The game literally uses PlayStation button symbols, so I'm not sure what you're expecting.
I'm not expecting much just hoping that they will change their output off since it always felt like they put out the game's on psp because of power and sales in Japan but since vita is dying even in Japan compared to 3ds(not sure about software sales) and if it doesn't happen then I'll just stick to the first one on vita or if remote play is good then I'll get the PS4 at some later point.

Also if the release structure is the same as it is in Japan there'll be a demo which comes with two songs. In what respect are you concerned whether it will be playable or not?
Nah meant remote play wise since there is a delay I'll check it out later.

Was thinking about buying jp version today. Glad i did not because this will work out alot cheaper than buying japanese psn cards.

It's a toss up between Afterburner and the live version of Piano x Forte x Scandal from Magical Mirai 2014 for her best song - the keyboardist in that live version is incredible!

Separate trophies? That's kind of nice since I got the few that you can earn from the free demo.

Woo, nice!
Glad it was finally announced because I was strongly considering just buying it off the Japanese psn store a couple of days ago.

As an absolute Hatsune Miku noob, this looks like the perfect point to get into the series. But I am curious about the quality of this as a rhythm game (gameplay, difficulty, etc), can you guys and girls give your opinions on it?

I started on Parappa the Rapper on the original PlayStation, going through all kinds of stuff like Donkey Konga, Guitar Hero III, Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Tengoku and probably a few others I'm not remembering at the moment. This month I got Rhythm Paradise Megamix on the 3DS and got reminded of how much I missed playing this kind of game. It's certainly the best way to waste time while commuting to work!

And as a little side question, is the DLC worth it? I think it's likely that it comes to the West as well, but what would we be losing if it doesn't?

I'm honestly not sure I'd consider this a good jumping-on point. It depends on what you're looking for, really. The mainline series (F, F 2nd, X) is better designed for home play, with more side features and hooks that try to keep you playing despite shorter song lists. This, on the other hand, is a pure port of Arcade. The mainline series and Arcade forked off from each other before the second PSP game, and Arcade is definitely tuned very differently, in that the gameplay is very clearly reworked for Arcade controls (Triangle, Square, X, and Circle arranged in a straight line from left to right) and there is little offered besides the core rhythm game. The song list is huge since Arcade has been around since 2010 and is only now receiving a direct port - the initial pre-DLC packs bringing the game up to about the March 2016 patch level, minus a couple songs that could not be relicensed.

The DLC updates that came to the Japanese version of the game are simply adding content that was introduced to Arcade after the PS4 version's announcement; each DLC pack seems to be on track to add four songs, eight or so Extra Extreme charts to existing songs, and about 10-20 modules (costumes) each. The price to content ratio is different for these items, mainly because they are much newer content than much of the Future Sound/Colorful Tone packs.

What you have to deal with as a newcomer is that there is no game progression here. It's just all the songs thrown at you at once, with nothing but difficulty rankings as a guide (which are not as useful as you would think, since all this content came out over several years and you just have to know which songs have the benefit of newer features and more polish).

Also, there are basically no rewards except improving your score. The gameplay is more technical than the home console games - it's relatively easy to pass songs but much harder to get excellent or perfect.

It's best if you can drive yourself to explore the tracklist and master the challenge that way.

it's cheaper that way (plus this game never had a physical release in japan, they're not gonna do it for US or europe).

It's too bad I think they would make more sale with physical copy. I think a lot of people don't like to pay 50$ for a game on PSN
